Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining profitability ASIC vs GPU

GPU mining is much more profitable.
A 1080 Ti makes more than an Antminer S9, D3, or L3 despite consuming a fraction of the power and producing none of the heat and noise. It also has kept almost 100% of its resale value, while the ASICs have lost almost all of theirs.
Ultimately, the only people who benefit from ASIC mining are the manufacturers of ASICs. They are effectively taking a big chunk out of the zero-sum game of cryptocurrency mining and giving nothing in return.

1. Difficulty increases much faster for ASIC coins.
2. ASICs are harder to use (either you need a separate building/warehouse or you need to tolerate a jet engine in your home).
3. GPUs have much higher resale value and have value that is independent of the cryptocurrency market.
GPU mining is therefore much less risky, which is why it has a lower return on paper. It's a much better investment, in my view, than ASIC mining.

Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITMAIN IS A TOTAL SCAM

Bitmain is directly competing with you for mining profits and they are making the equipment that you have to buy in order to mine.
Why do you think you'd ever be able to profit in such an arrangement?
The only way for normal people to make profits with mining is GPU mining.

Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The State of Cryptocurrency Mining by David Vorick (Sia)

The only reason that ASICs are winning is that ASIC manufactures are bribing developers to do nothing about ASICs taking over an algorithm. It would be very easy for a coin like Zcash to tweak Equihash and prevent all of the Z9s from mining. (Monero showed how simple and effective it is.) Contrary to Vorick's claims, ASICs cannot easily get around such a change -- if they were able to, then they wouldn't be much more efficient than current GPUs.
The author of the blog sells ASICs, so it's in his best interest to make GPU miners think there is no hope. He's also a very sleazy person. He accepted crowd funding for five batches of Siacoin ASICs almost a year ago and has yet to deliver a single product. So given his behavior, I can't trust anything Vorick says. In fact, I'm inclined to believe he's a compulsive liar who will say anything to get money.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NYXCOIN POW Masternode Complex Coin Project

The exchange price will probably be good for masternode owners, but unlikely to be good for miners. For every 20 coins a miner is able to sell, a masternode owner can sell 80. Miner also has higher hardware costs. If coin was $2 masternode owners would be, "Awesome, $160 i'll take that. Miners would be "$40? how do i make money from that?" This is compounded by the fact it will take a miner 5 times longer to afford a masternode. Existing masternode owners can compound their returns 5 times faster so they will have more and more coins. Any miners with a decent rig able to tell us how many coins they are getting in a day?
You should be able to get .4 coins with a GTX 1070 (1000 kh/s). I think this coin is an interesting project. The block reward is lower, but I think there's a good chance it won't get dumped as quickly as the other masternode coins.

Basically this is done in a way that the owners will have all of the emission of the coin for themselves.
Mining emission is extremely low therefore masternodes will increase very slowly.
Also because the emission is low, there is no selling pressure and the price of the coin will likely rise.
All in all, this is probably even worse than 30% of premine. What a shit.
It's actually a good strategy. Too many MN coins get mined and dumped, making them bad investments.
