Haven't heard any news from Tytanick for a while.
Is the nVidia OC stuff still a priority, or is it on the backburner for now?

Hey, this last update knocked my rigs out of commission. I'm running xfx RX 580s. Would reflashing the drive possibly fix this? I've removed any OC from the cards on the smOS side and changed miners, upped the power, but no luck. The rigs just restart indefinitely
I'm not sure what to do and I'd hate to go back to ethOS (ugh).
Thanks in advance to any help

yes the atiflash dir is the utils dir I transferred the custom roms by hosting the file somewhere, then navigating to your home dir and typing > wget http://mysite.com/custom_bios.romthen type in the miner home dir: > ~/utils/atiflash -p 0 custom_bios.rom Can't make it work Log: root@simpleminer:/home/miner# ls config.json G1625.rom root@simpleminer:/home/miner# > ~/utils/atiflash -p 4 G1625.rom -p: command not found if you just did the following, does it call the atiflash program? root@simpleminer:/home/miner# > ~/utils/atiflash

FLASHING TUTORIAL To flash its important to do following: - ssh as user "miner" and execute: screen -x miner .... and then press ctrl+c few times until whole screen exits. - go to root writing sudo su - execute command: dmesg -c - this will clear system log - this is where my syftoware watchdog is looking for some critical erros, if it finds them it execute reboot command. - go to atiflash directory and atiflash -p 0 custom_bios.rom atiflash -p 1 custom_bios.rom etc By "atiflash directory" you mean "utils" directory? How do i transfer my custom_bios.rom to utils folder? yes the atiflash dir is the utils dir I transferred the custom roms by hosting the file somewhere, then navigating to your home dir and typing > wget http://mysite.com/custom_bios.romthen type in the miner home dir: > ~/utils/atiflash -p 0 custom_bios.rom

Does the min fan speed OR temperature settings work for anybody in the Alpha Nvidia image?
My nvidia rig runs at like 84C and the fans are just chilling at a comfy 30%. The fans just won't crank up no matter what settings I put in smOS.
Just want to know if it's just me or something inherent with this alpha version?
Btw, great job Tytanick. People love your software. Some kids just learned that kicking and screaming is how you get what they want. You're right though, 99% of us agree that $2 a month is reasonable. It would be even MORE reasonable if we didn't have to pay 1% to Claymore and then another 1% to a pool. But I realize implementing another miner would probably be a huge undertaking for you right now. Keep up the good work.

Mixed rig with SMOS :-) 2pcs RX570 and 3pcs NV1060 under SimpleminingOS Alpha Nvidia version. Tytus please put EWBF miner into NV SMOS Wow, I didn't think this could be possible. Didn't someone here make a bet on this?

Having issues getting my MSI Z170A Gaming M5 board working with 6 Sapphire RX570 Nitro+ cards.
I've done the following: PCIE : Auto 4G Decoding : Enabled Integrated Graphics : IGD
But when it boots it gives a ton of errors on AMDGPU ring tests. *ERROR amdgpu : ring 3 test failed *ERROR amdgpu : ring 4 test failed *ERROR amdgpu : ring 5 test failed *ERROR amdgpu : ring 6 test failed *ERROR amdgpu : ring 7 test failed *ERROR amdgpu : ring 8 test failed *ERROR amdgpu : ring 9 test failed It also gives errors after that from powerplay saying "failed to send message"
After using Auto, Tried with GEN1, then GEN2 and have the same problems.
(Also, the board has 7 slots and I'm using the first 6 from left to right... should I be using different ones for just 6 GPUs?)
Thanks.
UPDATE : Works with 1 GPU. Going to diagnose slots / risers / cards to try and find the issue.
UPDATE2 : Went through each GPU and RISER... looks like one GPU is bad and is causing the errors. Too bad. Looks like the settings were all correct though. Kept the post for others.
I am having same issue with same board , I can only get 2 running at the same time. But I have another rig with 7 cards running just fine with the same mobo. I use this board and here's what I did to get it working: 1) Force internal graphics 2) update BIOS to latest 3) make sure mining mode is on 4) set PCIEs to Gen 1 5) This board can be set to boot in Windows. Make sure you aren't doing this in the OS settings. 6) enable 4G encode (I actually couldn't even find this option but everyone says it's important so I'm throwing it in) 7) someone somewhere mentioned increasing PCI Latency timer from 32 -> 64. But I didn't do this either. If you've done this with no results, test your ram and cpu. Maybe even swap cpus with a working rig, if compatible.

I really want to stay up to date with this project but can't stand this forum. Instead of whining about it any more, I've created the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/smOS/ in hopes of moving some of this discussion over there. I have no interest in moderating etc, so if anyone here likes that kind of thing and is fairly active here, I'd be happy to hand over the reigns. Please feel free and subscribe and post questions, developer news, tips, etc. I'm hoping I'm not in the minority in thinking that ONE SINGLE THREAD for all of these questions, announcements and complaints just isn't cutting it. Thanks

I'm done with SMOS. Congrats Tytanick, you made something worse than Windows. Half the features in SMOS don't even fucking work, and now it constantly has to be monitored because nothing is stable. I fail to see any advantages compared to Windows, especially when you figure in each rig costs $24 a year now in fees. My few rigs on Windows right now just constantly hash and I never have to mess with them and play rig wrangler.
lol. I love the entitled manchildren who come here to rage. smOS is not windows and is not trying to be. It's completely headless and ridiculously easy to use. Some people might run into individual technical issues but it's very new in development and Tytanick does a great job of patching it up. I hooked in my rigs weeks ago and it started mining right off the bat after I put in my wallet info. It's restarted twice and ran completely stable with a 7x 580s, 16gb SSD, 4gb of ram and a celeron processor. They're all stacked in a room with no monitor. Try doing this in Windows within 30 minutes (including downloading the OS, flashing it to a drive and getting everything working). I've done this with every one of my rigs with windows and smOS. smOS runs smoother, with by FAR fewer resources in less time to set up. If you "fail to see any advantages" in this, then that's an indictment on you.

My 7 1060s run very stable compared to Windows even though at a lower hashrate. Keep up the good work! Can't wait for OC ability to be available.
Also, do anyone's nvidia cards run incredibly hot in this beta build of smOS? The fans aren't kicking in for me when they should for some reason. I tried setting default fan speeds in the OC options, but I'm assuming those are not functioning yet because it didn't do anything.

Whoah!!! Buy looking at the diagrams, the terminologies, the processes, the things to do, and the way how the gentlemen here talk about it, it looks like Simple Mining is really not that simple as it is. I guess I need to read the whole thread to learn more about this. I really it is all about having a computer with an OS, install a mining program, put your wallet address, and one click - BOOM - you are mining $$$.
Anyway pardon my frustration about this. Reading the mining threads and it shows me that it is hard to mine coins.
It actually is that simple. But unfortunately this ONE thread is addressing EVERY issue anyone has ever brought up. Including from the developer himself, so it looks very confusing. I mentioned earlier that they should make a subreddit or something like that to organize these conversations. First off, lose the entitled attitude. Instead of just throwing up your hands, I'd just ask what you want to know. All I did was go to simplemining.net and follow the instructions: 1) Install: HDDRawCopy - flashing tool 2) Flash image provided in front page to any SSD drive (here he gives a video tutorial if you feel you need that; I didn't) 3) Take that SSD drive and put it into your rig 4) start the rig 5) log into simplemining.net and put in your wallet info (everything else is configured) "boom" I'd love to see another program that is that simple

single image smOS for R and RX would nice.
bootup check: if Polaris = true load RX image else load R image fi ? is it that simple!? There wil be nvidia+amd-gpu pro single image but i wont be integrating old fglrx into it Dont see point right now, i need some free space also for future new miners programms. Nvidia + AMDGPU-PRO single image? Will this be able to mine on both an Nvidia GPU and an AMD GPU in the same rig? If so... ohboy, I need some popcorn, cause this is gonna be a funny show. I think you've misunderstood him. He isn't saying you can mine with Nvidia and AMD gpus on the same rig. He's saying smOS will come equipped with both drivers and will work with either GPUs without needing to install a different OS version. You can't mix Nvidia and AMD GPUs on the same rig, but I don't see anywhere where he explicitly said you could.

confusing if Reddit is new for you, perhaps.
On Reddit, if an announcement is made, we can comment on that announcement. If questions/complaints are made, we can comment on those in their respective place.
Having one topic to handle 100 people's questions/answers mixed in with announcements like we have here, seems more messy in every way

This thread is getting ridiculously huge. I'm sure there are a ton of adopters now... Isn't it about time we move somewhere better?
This would be so much better in a Reddit sub. If someone made one, I'd join right away.
reddit.com/r/smOS is open... just saying
