Although it's kind of late to reply to this topic due to the fact that bitcoin's price has already surpassed gold's, I'd still invest in Bitcoin before gold. It still has a lot of potential and also not many people know about the topic of cryptocurrencies. Introducing people to Bitcoin's price as a an opener it's a really good way for them to research about it.

Altcoin prices will eventually go up, the thing is that there has been a lot of issues in general that affect a lot of countries economies and thus altcoins economies. One of those issues is the ICO Ban in China as you stated, but also natural disasters may play a role there.

It's true that many ICOs appear everyday, but not all of them are bad projects, some have a solid idea and a specialized team with good credentials, plus ICOs are becoming more mainstream and thus more mature.

Research. No way to be 100% certain, but read whitepapers, talk to devs, etc. The less info you can find, the greater likelihood of a scam.
I would also to this comment to check on the team, check if they LinkedIn profiles and if they do, what kind of experience they have. |

I personally like BTC and BTC-based altcoins such as Litecoin or BCH for example, they're more stable and have more growth potential than ETH-based altcoins AND TOKENS.

I still hold on to strongest altcoins such as BTC, ETH, ETC and LTC, prices will go up eventually and prices decreasing mean a good oportunity to buy. Now, I think you made good investments, those coins have potential  |

I try to keep track of my altcoin investments by always looking up at my "Trading history" tab which most of the exchanges have. But also it's quite important to invest wisely by searching the coin's reach in marketcaps than to invest foolishly in lots of altcoins.

What you could be the reason alt coins dumping atm besides, China?
If China even has that big impact. Could it be connected with some of the published news yesterday that local exchanges will be taken down in China?
If so, I would expect increase in other exchanges but this is not the case.
Or is this a reflection of the various problems alt coins have in many verticals atm?
Or just because BTC <> USD value falling?
China does have that kind of impact, although if you search across altcoins history, you'll see that this is something that happens more often than you'd think. The other reason might be the usual: speculation. |

Well it's finally here, the little pumps are nothing more than to keep the exiters price up. The ATH will never be hit again and I expect in 6 months for the price to be about 25% of what it is now.
