41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We need a clone coin section where people can post their garbage coins on: May 30, 2013, 02:51:09 PM
Well, that's how it should be.  The threads for the innovative coins will see more activity.

The only coin endorsed by Mr. Hankey!!!

Awesome!

So are you pre-mining it right now?
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] HyperCoin - HYC - Windows Client Included on: May 29, 2013, 02:13:49 AM
This seems like an OK coin:

1. Very small premine (only 128k TOTAL are in circulation right now)

2. Windows client, with correct port opened, made 65 connections

3. Low orphan/reject rates at difficulty of 0.11170942

4. Low block reward (25). No random blocks.  No huge early blocks.

5. 40 seconds is a good time between blocks.  Long enough to be secure but fast enough to facilitate quick transactions

6. Working windows client and working linux code at launch

7. Cool name and icon

8. Source on github instead of megafileshare

I don't agree.  Number 6 on your list is correct, but with one caveat.  The instructions for mining the coin which instruct all miners which ports are used were incorrect.  Only those of us that noticed the windows client using a different port were able to mine.  These kind of mistakes with the pre-mine don't make this a very good launch IMO.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] HyperCoin - HYC - Windows Client Included on: May 28, 2013, 11:42:19 PM
Ok, maybe I don't understand why mining works the way it does.

Why would only one person with a massively capable HW setup be able to mine a coin with a very low difficulty and everyone else with less powerful HW only get rejects and orphans?

The only way that I see this making sense is that the one with the powerful HW setup also has a bad-ass network connection and/or is very close to where the block-chain is hosted.  My guess is that the HW setup matters only a little compared to the network connection.

How do you physically have the cards installed? All on board or are you using risers?

I found when adding cards you will sometimes have drivers issues. Here's my solutions that seems to solve the issue 99% of the time:

Boot to desktop with all cards connected.
Run Catalyst Uninstall Utility (reboot)

I find Catalyst 12.1 to be solid (with those 4 cards you're using) but any will be fine really.

So download and install a CLEAN Catalyst (if you try to just update drivers without previously running the Uninstall Utility provided my AMD this will not work)

Reboot again, and you should be able to run all 4 cards w/o issues.

Literally did this with (6970,6970, 7870, 5770)

The cards are connected with two x1 to x16 risers and two powered x1 to x16 risers.  I'll try the Catalyst 12.1 after running the Catalyst uninstall utility and report back.

Thanks for the quick response!
47  Bitcoin / Mining support / running HD7970 and HD5970 together on: May 24, 2013, 09:41:45 PM
I've been running two HD7970s for about two weeks and just ordered two HD5970s to add to the mix.  Today I tried installing the HD5970s and the screen kept going blank for a couple seconds then returning, so I thought there might be some driver conflicts.  To help diagnose, I unpluged the two HD7970s and ran the two HD5970s, but there was no video.

Has anyone run this configuration before?

I did find a forum that claims the 10.5a display drivers work best for HD5970s.  Will these drivers work for the HD7970s also?

Any help is appreciated

System specs:

MB: Asus P6T Deluxe V2
Mem: 12g
CPU: i7
PSU: 1000 Watt 80+ Gold (will be running 2 x 1000 watt PSUs when I have all four cards installed)
Cooling: Big box fan and plastic storage crate Wink

I just have to say...

Awesome job flound1129!!!  I am now contributing 1300 KH/s on WDC to your pool.  Love the layout and information you are providing here.

Also thought I might offer my help, not that it looks like you need it though Smiley.  I'm a developer with 5+ years experience, if your interested please let me know.

Love the pool!

I just got my 3 gigabyte 7970s and so far I am getting 700 khs at 1040/1500. It looks like I won't need to do a bios flash. I have been having problems getting more than one card to work at a time though. Has anyone here gotten higher than 700, or is this the limit for a 7970?

It's only possible for techbytes Wink.

I haven't been able to get mine stable above 700, really wish I could though!

when can we expect to see this coin on a exchange?

Not for a while.  At least, that is the hope.  IMO, it will be a good thing if it takes a month or so for it to be published on an exchange as long as it stays popular.  That way it has a chance to spark even more demand from people wanting to buy in, which will increase it's value.  Adding it to an exchange too quickly without any aging may devalue it.

Is this their store?

www.buycyclonemicro.com

Not sure, but I was just using that link as an example of one option.  Paying 1k for a single board would be cost prohibitive, but I've seen boards on ebay go for under 100.
52  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: PCIE expansion board on: May 16, 2013, 10:25:16 PM
Yes. For instance I see no power supply at the slots, so unless you are going to use powered risers you'll fry the hell out of your motherboard.

I totally agree, but if I was going to run more than three cards I would need to use powered riser cables anyway.

Would the motherboard be able to support something like this?  Anyone try adding more pcie slots to there rigs?

Curious if anyone has tried anything like this:

http://www.cyclone.com/products/expansion_backplanes/pcie2-460.php

Looks like it would allow for using only one mb, processor, and set of dimms for a giant mining rig.

Any idea what the issues might be if you ran one of these with all x16 slots used by gpus?

Ok, guess I'll leave it run and see what it turns out in the morning.  Maybe we will all be WDC millionaires tomorrow!!!

lots of rejects.. another junkcoin? About to give up....? I dunno
Don't, the difficulty is getting higher, you should be finding some blocks now. I am

What are you setting in cgminer?  I'm running two 7970 with 1.324 Mh/s and still getting all rejects!
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] WorldCoin WDC | Coin of the Future | Instant Transactions | Launched on: May 16, 2013, 02:49:03 AM
I'm showing 22 transactions, but nothing in Balance or Unconfirmed....  wtf

Does that mean they are all orphans?

Hey, would someone mind sending me a copy of the client?  I don't have my dev machine up and running to compile.
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Low hashrate on 7970 scrypt? Under 700Kh/s? Here's what to do... on: May 14, 2013, 06:52:07 PM
Hey, so I've made some changes with my setup.  My XFX HD7970 DD can now reach 700 KH/s, and is stable at around 680 KH/s.  I'm still tinkering with it, but I think it's possible to break the 700 KH/s + mark.  Here is the guide that I used and a link to the bios that I used to flash the card:

Here is the solution for the 7970 Ghz card. Mine is a Sapphire 7970 Vapor.

Flash with this bios  http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/127156/GigabyteHD7970.3072.120905.html
635 kh/s @ 900/1580 -I 13 -w 256 -g 2 TC 11200
Thanks to asmzx for this fix.

Flashing 7970 is a breeze, I'll tell you the steps I took to get it working.

Flash Sapphire 7970 Vapor:

Download Rufus http://rufus.akeo.ie/  or create a bootable USB drive

Get ATIFlash http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2230/ATIFlash_4.07.html

Copy ATIFlash and the bios to the USB drive

To boot from your USB, just press F8 after you power on your computer and it should bring up the boot menu, if not keep resetting until you get it.
Select your USB from there and it should boot you to DOS/ATIFlash.

Code:
atiflash.exe -i

Gets the device ID of the card

Code:
atiflash.exe -f -p 0 new.bin

Use the number you got from the first step instead of 0 if it is different. Also change the name to whatever you named your BIOS.
For me, I named my BIOS "new.bin". Wait until it is successful and then reboot.

That's it, enjoy 630+ speeds without melting your card!

60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: cgminer crashing with --scrypt on: May 10, 2013, 08:51:17 PM
tc = Thread concurrency.  I usually run my cards around 12288 as hd7970s can be dialed up more.  Haven't worked with any 6850s so I don't know what the capabilities of that card are.

Have you disabled Overdrive?  (assuming your using the Catalyst Control Center).  I've had some issues with overdrive enabled while running cgminer.

If that doesn't work, maybe try running cgminer with no options.  If that works add one option back at a time until you find the culprit.

My system has Catalyst 13.4 and a fresh OS install as of yesterday so I'm hesitant to think that it would be the drivers since cgminer is running for me.
