181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Palm Beach's November Pick ??? on: November 18, 2017, 06:46:37 PM
What is the purpose of Palm Beach Confidential? Are they essentially a hedge fund but for crypto?

Basically a high priced pump newsletter. October edition:
https://www.docdroid.net/tbMFZcV/palm-beach-921.pdf#page=23

Yep. Be cautious with stuff you pay for.
If they are THAT good, they basically do not need your money!

Exactly. ZenCash would still be below $7 if PBC didn't pump it in their newsletter.

But, the bigger philosophical question remains... Would any coin increase in price without hype? There are many coins that have solid financials and actually make profits with working products, but they don't get any attention because they aren't flashy.

183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin segwit2x on: November 17, 2017, 04:34:26 PM
this is pretty weird actually!
checking the reality and the hashrate,... everything points to the fact that SegWit2x fork is officially a no go. everyone accepted this and all the miners stopped signalling it too.

but checking this website: https://www.btcforkmonitor.info/ it seems like the btc1 (segwit2x) nodes are currently on a different chain which indicates a fork has happened!
although the height of that chain shows 494782 which is the same as fork height, in other words no additional block has been found on that chain. or in other other words there is no hashrate supporting that chain and it is only the node of said above which is rejecting bitcoin blocks (to my understanding).

No2X supporters froze the nodes before the scheduled 484784 maybe? Preventing a real hard fork that would threaten BTC?
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: My strategy for the next hardfork SEGWIT2X on: November 17, 2017, 03:24:11 AM
B2X jumped from 0.17 to over 0.25 but for me this is pyre speculations and total madness to buy at this level. To be able to predict 'a real' price, we need to wait for the hard fork and see who will adopt the new coin.

Agreed, there was quite a list of supporters before they cancelled. I wonder if it happened how many would jump back in
185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Will Be the Hardfork? on: November 16, 2017, 08:23:35 PM

Their are some romurs that Segwit was postponed and now hardfork is continued,,,

When will be the hardfork?
It's hard to tell when it's going to go on, if there's a big enough crowd to call people then hardfork is going to happen.

Agreed, what would it take for someone to execute the hard fork on their own?

This is a good spot for tracking events:

http://coinmarketcal.com

It is looking good but I think it can be manipulated, trusted websites would be better to get up to date news about coins  Smiley

You need to submit a link/image to prove what you are posting. Click on the "Proof" or "Source" tab for each event to see

It's still postponed indefinitely as far as I know. There haven't been any recent developments.

If anything regarding it were to be officially announced, you can expect the news to blow up. It doesn't have community support and is likely to face just as big of a backlash as it did. Personally, I don't think it's going to happen anymore. It has already been branded a failure, and it would make more sense to pursue different projects - hopefully not another coup attempt.

I understand the politics and community support weren't there to make it happen in that regard, but as far as technically speaking what would it take for some rogue miner to create a 2x block? Isn't the software already in place on most nodes? I am not technically savvy when it comes to mining, so I'm just trying to understand if it is impossible or not. 13 of the last 100 blocks had 2X signaling, so assumedly someone out there is thinking about it.

Everybody else can't see your email address except you.

Haha! Thanks, Im a dumbass

In my account settings I have checked the box "Hide email address from public?" but the email icon still shows when I post a message on the left side under my name. Any ideas why?

I posted this in another forum, but I am curious to your thoughts here:

What will happen ~40hrs from now when we hit block 494784?

http://www.cryptodaily.net/segwit2x-activation-countdown-timer/

All it would take is 1 person to decide to mine a 2x block for the hard fork to occur, correct? The Segwit2x software has already been installed on nodes, and blocks are still signaling for 2x... So is it crazy to buy a few of these B2X futures at low prices to see what might happen?

193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: To Buy BCH or not to Buy BCH? on: November 16, 2017, 01:00:27 AM
Everyone talks so much shit about BCH, but it can be a very useful part of your portfolio as a hedge against what BTC does. It has very low correlation with BTC, meaning when BTC goes up/down it doesn't affect BCH much at all.

194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Sell or hold bitcoin cash ? on: November 16, 2017, 12:58:17 AM
I would hold.

BTC has been flying high, everything else has been crushed. BCH has the lowest correlation with BTC, meaning when BTC goes up or down BCH acts independently.

When BTC goes up, Alts go down.
When BTC goes down, Alts go down.
BCH doesn't give a shit what BTC does.

198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Who is pumping Bitcoin Cash? on: November 12, 2017, 05:13:47 PM
Miners are switching from BTC to BCH:

https://fork.lol/pow/hashrate

BCH is implementing a change to the difficulty adjustment algorithm on Nov 13 that will do a better job of maintaining 10 minute block times regardless of mining power:

https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-cash-developers-set-date-november-hard-fork/

https://www.yours.org/content/deadalnix-s-difficulty-algorithm-explained-ac50eb2b1f16/

BTC holders are dumping BTC and buying BCH. BTC has lost $26Bil in a week, BCH has gained $20bil in the same time. Price is rising rapidly. Miners are finally going to flock to BCH because there will be more stability in block times and less volatility for them. BTC is grinding to a halt with long block times and unconfirmed transactions.

199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What is happening with Bitcoin Cash? (need a very constructive explanation) on: November 12, 2017, 04:50:07 PM
400% mining difficulty increase for Bitcoin Cash today. Consequently, Bitcoin Cash will be significantly less profitable to mine and it is likely that at least a large fraction of the Bitcoin Cash miners will move back to Bitcoin.

There is some truth to this. Currently block times are averaging less than 1.5minutes which is crazy fast. The current difficulty algorithm is set to adjust upwards 400% later tonight on the 12th, but the difficulty adjustment algorithm will be changed on Nov 13 to better maintain 10min blocks regardless of what happens to mining hashrate.

BTC has lost $26Bil market cap in a week. BCH has gained $20Bil market cap in the same period.
