I'm finally running blockmarket desktop for the first time. It asks me to generate an alias. I've got an old alias on an old wallet but never mind that. The confusing thing is that what are the PUBLIC VALUE and PRIVATE VALUE fields? No explanation at all. There should be some explanation for noobs. Otherwise they might simply give up thinking that using blockmarket is too complicated. I couldn't even find an explanation through SysCoin FAQ.

Hi,
Here is the Youtube tutorial for aliases: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P37BFNfDUE&index=4
Here are all the screencast tutorials about Blockmarket Desktop: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClB4xFtsgsf0vOi_zEjTjbQ/videos

TL;DR
Public value: is whatever information you want to be known publicly about your alias. (example: Hi, I also make custom tailored socks, contact me!)
Private value: whatever information you want to store about your alias and would like to keep PRIVATE (example: my alias for retirement don't spend from it)

That makes much more sense. I was confused as well and thought value was referring to a monetary value.

365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: VeChain, still super undervalued on: October 19, 2017, 02:03:04 AM
What the fuck is this cryptocurrency? is never heard of this project at all, but I do not understand what you mean with not enough price at this time.
I honestly do not understand those people, i do not know how they can buy this kind of stupid coins that doesnt bring anything to this community. But yes, I wish good luck to those who are investing in this cryptocurrency, since it looks like something very risky at the moment.

This should help explain

An excerpt:

Quote
A product on the VeChain platform is assigned a unique ID, which is stored simultaneously in the blockchain, and placed on the product with an NFC chip, RFID tag or QR code. At any point during the product’s life, the chip, tag or code can be interacted with, whether it’s a distribution or retail partner ascertaining batch membership, or a consumer learning more about a product’s provenance. The company envisages a broad range of applications, including brand protection, anti-counterfeit, and food safety.

I hope this coin delivers.

Keep your expectations low and your timeline long-term.

VeChain doesn't do the hype cycles, and doesn't put out a lot of communications. There isn't any official ANN threads. They focus on driving their business forward and increasing revenue.
369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin on: October 18, 2017, 06:08:00 PM
I sold all my vert a while ago. I didn't see any potential in this one. Its competing with 1000's of others like it.

i would not say it
VTC coin is not competing with 1000 others
where can you find a well maintained coin that collects thousands of dollars in donation
that is asic resistant with such a big network and hash rate
big development team that delivers results every month
vert coin is much more..
if you compare it to 1000 others you dont deserve to invest in it Tongue

So what sets it apart from every other cryptocurrency??? It is ASIC resistant and gets lots of donations from its community? Thats it?!

I don't see any reason to invest in this coin.
370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Coins are CRASHING!!! Is it the next crash? BTC Down to $5300 as I type this! on: October 18, 2017, 03:42:48 PM
Agreed, this is a mild correction. I suspect we continue lower to around $4800 before it levels off.

So what is the best way to backup Blockmarket wallet on a desktop?
375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discovering Masternodes on: October 18, 2017, 12:57:45 AM
On a related note, I'm a complete dummy. Has anyone ever set up a MN using AWS without any real prior experience or knowledge?
376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CryptoWorldXToken] [CWXT] Your Gateway To Crypto Communication Tokens on: October 18, 2017, 12:48:38 AM
Hello everyone,

.... Due to the fact we are unable to verify the exact amount of CWXT held by each member of the community at the time of the occurrence, or how much CWXT users may have sold or bought at the time of discovery ...

Say what??!!

Don't you know how these databases work?  Or digital signatures?

You can very easily know exactly someone's corresponding CWXT amount -- and at the same time credit everybody with the corresponding ERC-20 tokens that will be on the Ethereum platform.

Here's how you do it ...

1) Announce ahead of time the block number in which a snapshot will occur.
2) In order to claim an address and the amount in the address, a user can sign a message that gives the Ethereum account that they would like the ERC-20 token to be deposited using the associated private key that corresponds to the CWXT address.
3) You can then use public key cryptography schemes to manually verify the signature.
4) You then send users the ERC-20 token to the account that is indicated in the message.

Notice how there is no need to give you anyone's email address or name or telegram address or any identifying information ...

----

Alternatively, we can conduct a coup on this community take over.

Agreed... If this is any indication how the new team operates then it doesn't sound much different than the old one.

378  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Turn $10,000 into 1 Million on: October 18, 2017, 12:11:03 AM

Another milestone for the portfolio:

Everything is completely off all exchanges; there is nothing on any exchange! Everything is in its own wallet and has zero exchange risk.

The portfolio is now set for the long term and any changes should be very few and far between and correspond to the portfolio's long term objectives . . . and maybe there will be a little trading on the BitShares decentralized exchange and the Steemit internal market too.  Grin

I'm also really looking forward to getting more involved in the specific projects I have chosen to invest in, firstly within their respective communities, and secondly as an active participant. I'm sure it must be obvious by now that I think my big four have a very impressive future ahead of them, and I definitely want to be more closely in touch with each as they move forward.

The fact that I cannot say the same about any other of the top level crypto contenders is one of the main reasons why I chose not to invest in anything like ETH or ETC, or ZEC, or even BTC and LTC (not to mention their relatively limited upside potential). If there's no way for the average person to get involved other than buying and holding, then that must mean they are fairly stagnate and anything but dynamic, and that leaves us wondering about what kind of future is really in store for them.

I will continue updating and posting, but, as you might imagine, given the longer term nature of the beast, there isn't going to be that much to talk about regarding this particular portfolio. Perhaps some of your portfolios might pick up the slack, especially if their still in their formative stages. If so, bring them on! I for one always love hearing about other people's trading and investment ideas and would gratefully welcome your contributions.

And, as always, all my best to everyone.

You'll do well as an activist sharehodler  Wink

379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why I'm selling all my alt coins and putting everything into Golos on: October 17, 2017, 12:24:42 AM
Golos pumping again in volume and price when BTC and most alts are falling

this happened last week to.

It Bittrex there is currently 36 BTC of buy orders, way higher than normal

Shows there is more confidence in the market than most think

I don't know who's buying, I assume some big Russian investors.

I think Golos might do Russia what Monacoin did last week in Japan.

Any opinion on why GOLOS vs GBG? Seems to be an even more extreme jump in volume on GBG
380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Your list of interesting coins. on: October 16, 2017, 08:04:02 PM
Since this thread is about interesting coins, I’ll try to drop one I haven’t heard discussed on here. GOLOS and GBG. Golos is a Russian version of Steem and GBG is their equivalent Steem Dollar. The coins have been dead quiet a long time, but just within the past week a ton of volume and some spiking on both. Apparently GBG is backed by 1mg of real gold for each coin (1mg = ~$0.04). Anyone have any info about this one or recent news? I do believe Russia will become the next China in terms of appetite for buying cryptos. Thoughts?
