Found the issue SilverStone Technology Strider 1200W

1 of the Power Cord to the Riser melted. the PSU Hole seem be the issue

Do you have a picture?  Which cable was melted power to riser a lot of times has adapters, wondering if adapter or truly PSU cable melted.

Either way I would touch other cables like the one that melted and if you feel heat git rid of cable.  I have only melted 1 cable and it was due to "bargin" psu adapter it used.  Ever since I stay away from low quality PSU and adapters.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer A3 earning $500 a day mining SIAcoin . .WHAT?! Results & Stats on: February 01, 2018, 02:08:51 AM
Antminer A3 is on the way to become another useless D3, 1 week ago the A3 would make you a whopping 19K USD a month, today it is at 1K.
The more A3's they create the more your earnings go with it, but antminer will always make a profit in the process.

I bought mine at 2230 USD, now they selling at 980USD!!!!  Huh

so here is my issue.  I have a mar 15 batch I bought off Ebay for $2400.   I can cancell the sale tomorrow but I have reservations about screwing up the sellers sale....maybe I'm looking to hard at this.   What do you say ?  Cancell and get my $2400 back?  If so any better ideas on what to spend it on hardware wise?  I'm duel mining ETH and Sia.   Took me about a month to mine 500 Sia with 4 1080TI cards.   Should i stop dual mining and just mine ETH?   Thanks

If you already paid I believe you will need seller to agree and to cancel it on their side. I doubt seller will do this on their own.   If you have not paid the bigger thing then the feedback is you get counted as a non-payment buyer.  If it happens multiple times it can hurt your account ( https://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/unpaid-item.html ).

I know it stinks with news of new price.  But you really should go through with buying it.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Outdoor Mining Rig Project on: January 02, 2018, 10:20:31 PM
Hi all,

I'm planning to build an outdoor mining rig. Basic idea is to use a waterproof garden storage box, equip it with fans for air in/out and perhaps include a dehumidifier. I live in a wet, maritime climate with generally cool summers and mild winters. The weather is fairly humid and there are considerable amounts of precipitation.

Any feedback on how to handle 1) fluctuating temperatures, 2) humidity and 3) dust? Well, I guess dust should not be a main concern if I use filters and a closed box.

I was thinking to just have the air inlets and outlets and some temperature and humidity sensors to get an idea of how 'box climate' evolves over time.

Any dos and don'ts?

I am a complete newbie, but plan to document the whole project step by step. See https://cryptocookbook.wordpress.com/2017/12/25/building-a-mining-rig/

Cheers,
Marc

I would not go outside with gear even if protected from dust if that wet condensation can get in and destroy your mining equipment.  Salt or regular water maritime climate you will need to separate it from your gear completely as even just a little can kill machines.

I know this is old gear at this point but it show's corrosion and what it does to miners - Old SP20 thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg11018389#msg11018389
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: $5K to spend on: December 31, 2017, 03:41:15 AM
Looking to get a rig. Thinking 3 or 4 1080 Ti cards to start for now...unless AMD is better for ETH? Either way, let me know. I have a question about the CPU and motherboard. For the CPU, should I be looking at just Celeron or i3 maybe? I don't know to much about motherboards, but came across this one  ASRock H110 Pro BTC+. Overkill or should I go with something else? Thanks.

If you intend for ETH specifically some other cards are much better on price per hashing on ETH then 1080.   But it depends on what you intend to mine as 1080's do mine certain coins very well.

ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ are great besides the electrical tape fix since slots are so close.   That being said they have went up in value to 2x retail or more in some cases to get one.  But I do really like this board personally and worked great for me.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Miner and building a 6 card 1070 ti rig, make sure I don’t screw it up. on: December 29, 2017, 08:55:22 PM
I will be right here with you.

I picked up 5 GTX 1070 ti cards yesterday. Expected to be delivered next week.

I plan to setup the mobo, update the bios and install windows. Get that stable and then add a GPU and install drivers. Test the over lock settings until I have a profile I like, and then add a card, add drivers and add profile and then test to see stability and keep doing that with each card until it’s all running.

You might take a look at SimpleMiningOS over on the forums - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1541084.0 .   For 2 bucks a month I think it's well worth it on a 5 x 1070 system.

Super easy to setup and the web interface is honestly worth a lot more then 2 dollars a month if you plan on changing coins you mine.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining ZClassic and getting Ethereum on: December 29, 2017, 08:12:34 PM
Hello!

You can create an address at Cryptopia and send the coins. I do that, it has good liquidity for ZClassic.

It will depend on what pool you use but most exchanges make a point of saying not to mine to them (yes there are a few exception to this).  But in general you don't want to mine to a exchange.

Yes you could use some pools that store a little on them and then transfer to exchange at a certain amount.   All depends on how the pool is set up to pay out.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My 1st Ethereum Mining Rig on: December 27, 2017, 04:38:41 PM
I was thinking to switch to Simple Miner but so far everything is good so i will keep mining on Windows.

The great thing is you can try it for free on Simple Mining OS. And also great you can put on USB drive and test out.   I would test it out for 2 dollars a month it is a bargain.  I have switched any rig with more density to it.  Once you get rig groups set up to possible coins you will mine you will love it.   Although if your mining straight Ethereum at all times you will not benefit from this feature to much.

I still have a few rigs on windows but on new rigs I don't even order a SSD and go straight to Simple OS on usb stick and save just a little with doing this.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Recommended riser cards ? on: December 27, 2017, 04:30:36 PM
Hi all, 1st post !

I've been looking into mining for a while and currently run a dual Claymore on my home gaming pc whilst learning. In January I'm planning to build a six rig miner and have sourced all the parts except the riser cards.

Would you guys have any recommendations on particular brands to consider or avoid? I've read that some use cheap components/usb cables.

All help appreciated.

Reck.

I personally like ones that have a molex 4 pin on the board itself, and then come with a adapter to sata.   This way you can use a sata but if you happen to not have a sata can use a 4 pin molex from PSU.  Came in handy in one build where I ran out of sata and just used Molex on last 2 spots.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Unique position on: December 21, 2017, 04:34:28 PM
Hey guys,

First off I'm entirely new to cryptocurrency (I think I get the basics of it?) and have never mined a coin in my life. I am however in a fairly nice position whereby I work in architectural visualisation, so have access to a lot of heavy-duty machines (CPU mostly) and a few with some decent GPU's. I'm looking at mining monero (have just started on my quadro M4000 and a separate 1080 ti strix). Obviously the hardware costs and power costs are covered by the practice, so in theory it's "all profit".

I guess I have a lot of questions.

1 - Provided I'm doing it correctly on this (currently) modest setup, how long can I expect to see some coins (or fractions/denominations of) coins in my account/wallet? Is it a thing that I can expect to see incrementally creep up every hour, or day, or week? I have no idea on the timescales to expect.

2 - What difference does it make being in a big/small mining pool? Is it even feasible to go-it-alone?

3 - I'm sat looking at the command line interface scrolling away whilst the GPU calculates things wondering what it all means. Will it give me any kind of indication when I've "mined" something, or it's "paid out"?

4 - Assuming I've mined a coin, or percentage of one. What now? How do you exchange it for money?

Any help is much appreciated.

1 - I think really depends on how many GPU's you have to start with. CPU mining is just very very low profits in my opinion.   So how many GPU's and what GPU's are they? As the model will make huge difference.

2 - Most you will use a pool to guarantee payment and combine your hashing power with others.  You can solo mine but many coins it will be hard to have enough hash to not be more of lotto mining.  So high likelyhood of you using a pool.

3 - Which miner program are you using? Hard to say in general but in most cases it will say speed and you can use a mining calculator to see how much you should be making, and also can check pool your mining to for stats.

4 - Again depends on a coin but you would go to a exchange and do this part best exchange depends a lot of what country your in for what is best.   If in US a lot is KYC laws and you need to be verified to pull out cash to your actual banking account.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alt coins that are still profitable to mine with a GPU on: December 14, 2017, 01:54:09 AM
What would be the preferred budget for having a miner. And what is the possible income?

You will really have to research this yourself.  You need to decide what you want to mine, the really decide on cards.   And then how many cards and if more then one rig.  Just like possible income it's hard to say knowing 0 on machine specs we havent even talked about electricity price.  And even if we knew there is a reason this forum is speculation Smiley we try to get good and educated guesses but no one can tell you exact ROI or how much ROI.

You really need to have the budget before jumping into it.  Only you know what you have in mind for this.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 14, 2017, 12:33:56 AM
Bleh... ETN down 35% today, along with my holdings and my mining estimates.

Oh well, switching the RX 570 and Vega rigs to XMR on Nanopool now. It's pretty profitable as well. Not sure what I should do with last week's ETN mining proceeds... Take the hit now and exchange to BTC or wait for them to recover? Hmmm... Choices, choices... Tongue

Looking back now I wish I would have done the ICO on ETN, but I have pretty much stayed away from all ICO's.  I mined some to a paper wallet I figure I will sit on it and see what happens.

I think next big hurdle is get on more exchanges just being on 1 is not so good on adoption but it is very early still.   To make it on one of the bigger exchanges would be great.   Overall I am surprised to be honest it did not dip even more on price so far I thought more would be selling off once people got access to ICO coins.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much longer will the 1080Ti be the king? on: December 14, 2017, 12:21:40 AM
I already ROI'd on my 3 Vega 56 cards

The hard part is getting Vegas for a decent price though most places are sold out or very high priced.  I would LOVE a few Vega's at retail price but that is hard to find.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Advice on new pc on: December 14, 2017, 12:18:04 AM
Hi folks, I'm hoping to buy a new pc for mining primarily but will also be used for occasional gaming/staking coins and hosting a masternode... is all that even possible on one pc??

Failing that then i will settle on a decent mining machine first and foremost

i will be using either www.scan.co.uk or www.aria.co.uk, both reputable uk based retailers who accept btc

Thanks very much for any pointers folks

Edit ....... looking to spend between £850 to £1200, or would buy 2 pcs/laptops if around £500 to £700

neither 2 pc's nor laptops are a good choice, build yourself a dedicated mining rig and do it the right way. using a laptop is just a horribly dumb idea as youll kill those faster than youll get your money back. and the pcs why would gpus in a case that's got super poor ventilation and torture the gpus like that? come on have some common sense that said instead of wasting everyone time and posting a mostly useless thread, had you of actually spent time looking through this very forum you would have found a plethora of more than enough information to answer your very noob questions

Also if at all possible I would pay with regular money.  I would hate to spend hard earned BTC as you might be better just holding it (can't say for sure though).   But for sure ditch laptop idea and go desktop.

I think a gaming desktop does not align with mining computer if trying to get best bang for your buck.  I mean you can cut CPU/Ram spending by just mining, even thumb drive with simpleOS instead of ssd.   All that saved money can go to more GPU's.   And also cooling I like open air machines vs gaming desktop tend to be in a case in my opinion harder to cool.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Mining OS] SimpleMining.net - Easy to use GPU MINING Operating System on: December 09, 2017, 05:28:19 AM
We need this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2360168.0 on linux, Lyra2rev2 are very profitable if you use that app on windows, more than ETN which is btw showing unreal profits using calculators.

We also need a updated version of sgminer with support for ZCOIN algo(Lyra2z) which is also very profitable. (https://github.com/djm34/sgminer-msvc2015)

Would also love if you get time to add this miner.   With GTX cards Lyra2rev2 can bring some good profits currently.   Vertcoin(VTC) and Monacoin(MONA) both are showing good profit at least on the short term.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to use task scheduler with miner on: December 09, 2017, 05:15:59 AM
I was wondering if anyone can guide me on using windows task scheduler with a miner to turn it on and off at certain times. I'm using EWBF's CUDA Miner. I have task scheduler start the bat file that runs the miner, and it kind of works. It will open the miner and run it, but the command window does not show, but the miner process does run and is mining. To close it I have tried using taskkill but it is not closing it, nor does running a batch file with taskkill command in it either.

Can someone guide me on how I can get this to work? I dont mind the command window not showing, but getting the miner to shut off is essential.

It's been a long time since I have done a batch file with taskkill.  Have you tried using the /f parameter in your taskkill command?  I would look into the command a little more as it should be able to kill mining task.

I would work on getting the command to work first then focus on the batch file.  Also you might post your batchfile and see if anyone notices anything to help.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Buying 3 new rigs for 6500 on: November 28, 2017, 02:47:30 AM
Thank you very much Wacko. I kinda want to pull the trigger today but your opinion helps me I make up my mind : Will build my own rigs and keep all the boxes for to flip them later on in case these coins tank.

Bests,

Rothco.

Coming back from a long time lurking.  Rig B I would want a really good deal to consider as difference between 1070 and 1070 ti is not a whole lot, and the new TI is more efficient with right settings.

I think you are going in right track in building  your own rigs.   I would just decide what coin you are trying to mine as I see AMD and GTX as each having advantages and disadvantages.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sanity check before I purchase 8k€ hardware on: June 08, 2017, 09:56:00 PM
Where did you find the gpus?

Would love to know this to if you don't mind sharing OP.  I have been looking on/off for RX 570's and have had 0 luck.  To secure 24 you must have a good source.  I would make sure that your deal is "secured" before buying all other gear.  As I would hate to buy all other gear then have it sitting trying to get GPU's.  (You could switch GPU's but that is kinda another topic)
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Ethereum still profitable on: June 01, 2017, 05:51:12 PM
With $1500,- what can I buy?
Can you make an example what the profit is?
I'm really new to mining hardware.

Maybe increasing a little bit the budget you can get good hardware, please read this awesome article http://1stminingrig.com/best-mining-rig-hardware-mine-2017/

Be sure that some stuff isn't available because the mining is getting trending and people are trying to buy everywhere where they see GPUs Tongue

The problem you will run into is getting the GPU's.   I have been watching a little on 570/580... it's pretty impossible to get the amount I want at decent price currently.  Had me looking at Nvidia some... but not sure I want to go that way yet.

*Edit also the motherboard the list works great.  But again problem is just getting one at decent price.  This at least only 1 per rig and can take a little hit on price.  If you pay over retail on 6 GPU's or so it will really add up and hurt ROI.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Everything I want is sold out everywhere! on: May 22, 2017, 05:46:41 PM
I scaled down from 6 GPU to 5GPU rigs. Way more stable, cheaper parts (mobo + PSU) and also parts widely more available. Win win all over the place

What GPU's did you use and where did you get them?  I'm having trouble finding the 570's I want.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Who has rx 570's in stock? on: May 22, 2017, 04:06:57 PM
Best bet would be check your local stores. If you're near a Microcenter or Fry's that's a good chance, otherwise check for a local distributor.

My local best buy has none.   Fry's and Microcenter are not by me so no luck there.  Anyone have a legit website with them in stock?
