1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC Community Release free-easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining on: July 08, 2019, 09:02:09 AM
Hello,

I just upgraded my 8 rigs to the latest version. Prior to this they have been running on 19-2.0 from December 2017. I am gone a lot and very busy now and don't have a lot of time to mess with them so they have just been running Nicehash ET hash rather than me trying to chase the most profitable coins, deal with multiple wallets, etc. The pay in BTC is so convienent.

I decided to clean off all the rigs today and while at why not upgrade. It took me a while to get going as I was using the wrong 1bash.template. I downloaded the entire 7zip image but the 1.bash.template contained in it was not the newest and I had to get the latest from GitHub. Got that working.

I am still having an issue with the miners. the only one I can get to work with nice-ethash is claymore. I don't know if this is good or bad. On the old version I was using ethminer and it doesn't have a fee I think and Claymore does. Anything but claymore gives me "could not subscribe" errors.

What miner should I be using for best performance and how do I make it work if it isn't claymore?

Thanks.

ASIC - TOO LOUD TOO HOT
GPU -  EXPENSIVE and HARD TO MAINTAIN ( OS crashes, PCIE connectors failing , power supplies getting dusty, cards failing)

Asics are definitely too loud and hot. I have 48 GPU cards running in my office right now and don't mind them but I have one ASIC and I couldn't even stand listening to it in my garage. It is in a separate detached building.

GPUs are not hard to maintain and I haven't experienced failures. I am running 8 rigs each with 6 1070s and have been for about a year. To date I have had to replace one $10 USB flash drive. No other failures. With the 8 running 24/7 I have to reboot a single rig (not always the same one) about 2-3 times a month.

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / ZEN potential price move with ASICS coming on: June 15, 2018, 08:51:42 PM
I have been GPU mining and holding ZEN for the past year. I like the coin but have amassed quite a few - close to 1000. I am nervous about what the price might do when the ASICs hit the scene. I am contemplating trading them all to BTC as a relative safe haven to see what happens. Am I being paranoid or is there a potential for the price to drop a lot when this happens?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help with expired transaction on: December 28, 2017, 11:01:00 PM
I did some reading on here and got electrum and imported my keys into it thinking somehow I could solve the problem there but it seems to have the same issue. It shows as pending in there. I have heard you can do a double spend with a higher fee but electrum won't let me spend them it says not enough funds.
I've used Bitcoin Core in the past to create a double spend, but that means a 150 GB download if you don't have it installed.
User Thirdspace wrote instructions here on how to double spend using coinb.in. He wrote this for that specific thread, so you'll need to create your own transaction and can't use the one he has in Code-tags. This can be tricky though, so make sure you know what you're doing before entering any private keys on a website!

If you're not in a hurry, you can just wait until the transaction is dropped and Electrum allows you to make a new transaction.

But: current recommended fee is 559 satoshi/byte for a fast transaction. For a 15,231 bytes transaction that's 0.085BTC, more than halve of your total. You can probably go a lot lower than the amount recommended for a fast transaction, but it can take a while to confirm.

Thanks.

Not in any hurry. If I could just even get it back to my blockchain wallet that would be fine until the fees settle down. No need for the funds right now or any time soon.

"If you're not in a hurry, you can just wait until the transaction is dropped and Electrum allows you to make a new transaction."

How long does that take? It has been 21 days and the block trail thing shows it removed /expired.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Need help with expired transaction on: December 28, 2017, 09:13:36 PM
I sent some BTC back on December 7th from the blockchain wallet to my Trezor. Blockchain was my first wallet and I no longer want to use it so I was trying to move everything over.

The fee was too low and it never went through. If I look up the transaction it says removed/expired. https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/tx/1bf2c9222419661cf9d5497a73b641069bf9260b96cc838aa42fc18b2cd7a29e

I don't care if it goes through or just goes away as I have access to both wallets and could resend with a higher fee. My problem is in my blockchain wallet it shows as pending with no options. I can't cancel, resend, or anything.

I have heard you can do a double spend with a higher fee but electrum won't let me spend them it says not enough funds.

What can I do to remedy this? Again I don't care if the transaction confirms or if it just goes away and I can resend with a higher fee. Right now the funds are just stuck in limbo.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining v0019-1.4 on: December 26, 2017, 10:41:15 PM
Just updated all eight of my rigs using the latest 2.0 image.

I also set up and started using telegram for the first time.

All seems to be working great and what an awesome program.

Big thanks to everyone for their efforts on this.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining v0019-1.4 on: December 11, 2017, 02:19:05 AM
Is there a full download for the 19.2 or if one is setting up a new rig must they download the 19-1.4 and then update?
8  Economy / Trading Discussion / Help me understand the market forces on: December 08, 2017, 01:40:30 AM
With stocks you have people who buy them and are “long” and make money when they go up and people who sell them short and make money when they go down. I certainly would not want to short bitcoin but is that even possible? Stocks are kind of held in equilibrium because people want them to go up and down so they can make money depending on their position. With bitcoin it seems the huge upswings are in part due to no one wanting it to go down. Everyone who invests wants it to go up or am I wrong?
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How to choose transaction fee amounts on: December 08, 2017, 01:31:53 AM
I have a bunch of mining proceeds on a hot wallet. About $3000 US but it is comprised of a ton of small transactions. I was going to move it to my trezor after being spooked by the nicehash incident. Using their recommended fees it was going to be $1000 to send.  Shocked.

I am no rush for this I don’t care if it takes a week. What kind of sat/byte should I choose?
10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Question about ordering from Bitmain on: November 26, 2017, 07:34:41 AM
They are legit and I have never heard of them straight up ripping someone off but their customer service sucks and they don’t give a shit about their small customers.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining v0019-1.4 on: November 26, 2017, 07:28:30 AM
19-1.4
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: November 26, 2017, 07:08:32 AM
If someone you knew had six 741’s, power supplies for each and the controllers basically a plug in and go setup how much BTC would be a fair trade for them if the deal was done tomorrow?

I know they can be bought new with PSU for around 1k each but it will be months before you get them.

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [OS] nvOC easy-to-use Linux Nvidia Mining v0019-1.4 on: November 25, 2017, 08:39:47 AM
Would it be a bad idea or difficult to enable ftp server on these nvOC machines?

As I get more and more running it seems it would be nice to be able to blast a 1bash file with all my settings to them. None of my machines have monitors or keyboards.

I guess it could be done with scp but that is kind of slow and clunky.

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why aren't there more women in Bitcoin? on: November 25, 2017, 03:26:23 AM
I am certainly not saying women can’t understand bitcoin but most women don’t like technical stuff and don’t want to learn about it.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How many people did you turn on to bitcoin over Thanksgiving? on: November 25, 2017, 12:17:57 AM
After dinner while sitting around the table Bitcoin came up. I explained it to everyone and several were really interested. I had a few of them download the Blockchain wallet to their phones and sent them $5 of BTC to show them how it worked and then showed them my daily earnings from my miners. I think they are hooked and I will be helping them get more involved soon.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: noise solution? on: November 24, 2017, 07:18:30 AM
I don’t have an antminer I have an Avalon 741 but I am guessing the sound is similar. When it gets warm it sounds like a vacuum cleaner however when it is very cool it is quiet. I moved mine into my shop and it was loud out there during the summer but now it is cold outside it is surprisingly quiet.

I don’t have any ideas off the top of my head but if you could get it really cool it would cut down on the fan speed and noise dramatically.

This is in no means a request to speed things up but I was curious when the next version might be released?

I have eight rigs and six of them are running on older versions and two on the 19-1.4.

I was thinking of updating them all to 19-1.4 but if a newer version is coming soon I might just wait and update them all to that.

Two: I been getting EVERY reward about a day after the block is found with no issues.  But on the last block is says I got paid but didn't and its been a few days so I'm not sure if or what I should do.

Kano used to pay the transaction fees to send our payments from the mining fee % he collected. He is not charging a fee currently and to the end of the year so to send payments as soon as the block is hit would be money out of his pocket. What he is going to do is add the transactions in on the next block the pool hits and they will get paid then. So basically the way I understand it from now until the end of the year when he is charging no fees you will get paid for each block when the following block is found.

I am out guys.

Kano is great and really no complaints other than our hash rate being 1/5 what it once was has led us to blocks being few and far between. I know it is all based on luck and no one can control that but the higher your hash rate the more predictable the payouts are.

The last few blocks we hit I got over $20 each with just a single 741. I switched over to NiceHash which I know the general consensus is they suck but they are selling your hash power not relying on finding blocks and I earn a steady $10-$12 every day. When Kano hits blocks it is certainly better but I will take my guaranteed $70-$80 a week over maybe getting $20 every 3-4 days.

The way I figure it 80 days of Nice Hash will pay for the miner. Then I can play with the houses money and jump back on the pool where in a sense it is more like gambling with no assured payouts but the potential for higher rewards.
