62  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: May 31, 2013, 10:33:56 AM
I'm going to release the firmware and driver code once it's working. I was thinking of all that stuff to protect it but to be honest that's just is a hassle. I'm going to just trust that people will choose to support the vendors that kick back a small fee. Or even better maybe they'll mine a few hours for me by their own choice. I'll put the mine-to address out there when it's time. I'm getting a lot of help/support from forum members here and I think it's better to respect that by not having locked code at all.

That's awesome. I have a lot of experience in micro-controller programming. I have a MicroChip universal programmer, and just received the module for PIC16LF1459-I/SS, and a few chips. I can help with programming, so let me know if you need any help both for the controller and cgminer driver.

Just so you know, we will still be paying a license fee to you for every board we sell.

After I've reached my reward target I'll release the firmware source and anyone can update to the totally open version as they like.

What is your reward target? Maybe we can all pool in to make the source open from day one. This would also give the community an opportunity to look at the code for bugs, if any. TerraHash would be happy to chip in a bigger share.

@Kano. Just because some people are willing to work for free, doesn't mean everybody else has to. Did Avalon open source their chip design? No. At least BKKcoins is willing to open source his code, and I don't see why he should not be rewarded for his work. Not trying to get into an argument with you guys, just my 2 cents.
64  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone considered the idea of an enclosure for a Klondike board? on: May 21, 2013, 08:21:52 AM
Giving you some heads up.... need to have air flowing over the fins especially if you are going to pack what? 10 boards?

Thank you for your feedback. As I said, without the internal tray, there will be tons of open space for the airflow. Also the holes on the sides will be much bigger for a better airflow.
65  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone considered the idea of an enclosure for a Klondike board? on: May 21, 2013, 08:18:42 AM
Ya but your fins will be blocked according to your rack design... need to free up the fins to the flow. Basically a solid wall of metal the fans won't be pushing air  over the fins.

Again, this is NOT the final design. Just a preliminary sketch. Those vertical bars are actually holes in the tray. However, we are removing the tray altogether. There will be metal bars on the top on both sides, into which the cards will be screwed using brackets (just like how you screw in PCI cards. The PCBs will have brackets on both sides)

http://terrahash.com/dx-large-case-design-conceptual-sketches/

That will be a cooker... need to get fans cooling the fins. Unless you have a whole side of fans.

There are 5 fans, 3 in the front, 2 in the back. The holes will be much larger in the actual case.
67  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone considered the idea of an enclosure for a Klondike board? on: May 21, 2013, 06:09:22 AM
TerraHash's website looks like they sell the K16 and K64 boards, but they also sell housings for each of those.

The DX Large houses up to 10 of the K64 boards (total of 180GH/s), and the DX Mini houses up to 20 of the K16 boards (total of 90GH/s).

They're a bit pricey, but each unit "Comes complete with a case, installed boards, power supply and cooling fans."

I'm assuming since they daisy chain, you would only need a single USB connection to plug into a host PC?

I haven't seen any pics or specs, but I also haven't read every post by them.

We have a preliminary design ready. This is NOT a final design, and we will make several iterations before finalizing it (e.g. rotating the power supply to face backwards, using brackets to mount the boards, bigger holes for fans etc.)

68  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: List of Avalon ASIC Board assemblers in North America/US on: May 13, 2013, 10:56:14 PM
Just wondering, is anyone making the regular 20GH 80 chip Avalon Modules using the chips? They have released the board drawings etc, so this could be a handy service for those that have ordered 3 module Avalon machines that can be upgraded to 4.
Has anyone started this yet?

We are working on the whole design, including the control unit. But since it uses the FPGA, it is going to be more expensive than our DXs. We have an engineer working on the design for 20GH modules. We will update soon.
69  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: List of Avalon ASIC Board assemblers in North America/US on: May 13, 2013, 10:49:11 PM
We also have a boards which come with the Avalon chips (you don't need to send us any chips). So please update your list, by adding these:

TerraHash: do you accept the payment in USD? Can I ship my chips to you directly and get the boards in USPS package?

We accept payment only in BTC, as it is easier to handle. We might make an exception and accept wire transfers for large orders ( > 50k USD ). And yes, you can ship us the chips, and we will send back the boards via USPS.
72  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Announcement] TerraHash will provide hosting for Avalon Chips. on: May 12, 2013, 01:11:13 AM
We have decided to provide hosting for Avalon Chips. You send us your Avalon Chips, we will mount them on BkkCoins' Klondike 64 boards, and host them for you. Alternatively, you can buy our Modular boards or Kits that already come with Avalon chips, and we will host them. You can ask for your hosted boards/kits to be shipped to you anytime you want. We will provide free repair/replacement for the defective parts in case of a failure in any equipment that is hosted by us.

Here is the price for assembly of the boards if you send us your chips:
4.5 GHash/sec boards containing 16 chips: 0.75 BTC
18 GHash/sec boards containing 64 chips: 1.99 BTC

Here is the price for boards/kits that come with Avalon chips (we provide the chips):
4.5 GHash/sec boards containing 16 chips: 1.99 BTC
18 GHash/sec coards containing 64 chips: 6.99 BTC
TerraHash DX Mini (90 GHash/sec): 49.99 BTC
TerraHash DX Large (180 GHash/sec): 84.99 BTC

Here is the hosting price:
4.5 GHash boards: $3.00 per month per board.
18 GHash boards: $10.00 per month per board.
TerraHash DX Mini: $30.00 per month/unit.
TerraHash DX Large: $50.00 per month/unit.

All the hosted equipment will mine in a pool, and Bitcoins mined will be divided according to the hash power owned by you, and deposited into your Bitcoin address every 2-3 days. We will not take any share from mining, and the hosting prices will be revised on an yearly basis.

Again, we haven't started taking pre-orders yet. If you are interested in our products, sign up for an account here: http://terrahash.com/my-account/ and we will let you know when we start taking orders.

And I am not even gonna comment on every single person trying to label us as a "scam". How can we be a scam when we are not even asking for any money? In the last 2 days, we have received a request to accept pre-orders from at least 150 people, offering to buy around 10000 BTC worth of our products in total. If we were a scam we would have happily taken that money.

what a joker, with 20 posts and over 150 people wants to buy something from him, I smell something fishy though Grin

150 is the number of people who want to pre-order right now. The number of folks who wanna buy is much more than that. But whatever. Keep trolling.

Probably you are interested in view this page http://terrahash.com/ use this build.

Dont know who are..

Might also be worth a GROUP buy on boards with components if BKKcoins can get his prototypes to fly.  Bit early for all that I guess but really I am willing and able to work with a group so we can get the best price we all can.

Me too I'm trying to do Spanish group to get better price.

Regards Smiley

SCAM possibly.

yes very likely

Better we support BKKcoins rather than go off with someone like that right... basically just sponging or scamming. If we are all working together to help BKKcoins get his board made, tested then again at the right time we can all group buy to lower the production run and kick in for BKKcoin for his design and work etc if he is interested in that. I think there are many of us here all willing to trust in BKKcoins so if we do this all as one large group buy we are likely going to get the best price possible anywhere.

We should all be looking locally to scrounge up facilities to fab the completed boards I think. So find a reputable reflow / smt shop. I for one would like to see that BKKcoin is compensated fairly for all this work so that we as a group kick back every-time we use his board design. I don't the guys running that page above are interested in doing that or they would be here at least contributing to the discussion.

Being open source is the best thing for the community but that doesn't mean it is free or something we should just go alone on as a group we can really lower our costs and probably beat competition out there. Thanks again BKKcoins for doing this and everyone else contributing to this. If we keep supporting this project I have little doubt it will work. This is how a real community should work not trying to profit off others work but rather supporting the developer and working out how we can best help all of us get a working rig in as many hands as possible.

We really appreciate BkkCoins' effort and that's why we offered to buy the boards and components in bulk from him, so that he gets a share in the profit too. We are also open to "license" the design from him, even though it is open source and free to use. But we believe if we are exploiting it commercially, BkkCoins has the full rights to a share in our profit. Only if we reward the devs, more and more people will be willing to put in their efforts. We are operating our business on a minimum margin too. In a 6.99 BTC board that we are selling, just the chips cost 5 BTC. And the board/components/assembly will cost us around 1 to 1.5 BTC. We are working towards the greater good of the Bitcoin community. Of course we are not a charity, we are going to make profit too, but a bare minimum.

Regarding the address, its not an alley, it is a wharehouse/retail space.

Did a double-take there. Thought you said it was a whorehouse, then I realized you meant "warehouse."  Grin

I'll leave my original comment unedited for the sake of humor Smiley

I never said they were on the same side. Obviously there is some misunderstanding here. Personally I have not seen any of the two places we were looking to lease. All I know is we finally chose 1261. We will take possession in a couple of days, and then you will be more than welcome to come visit us.
78  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official TerraHash topic (scam) on: May 07, 2013, 09:50:05 PM
By the way 1258 very much exists, you can see it in Google Street View. Both 1258 and 1261 were up for rent, and we were deciding which one to take when the website was being setup. We finally went with 1261, but the webmaster had old information. I just contacted him to update the new address.

TerraHash will sell ASIC Bitcoin mining gear using the Avalon ASIC chips. More information: http://www.terrahash.com

Basically what we are doing is as follows:

  • We have ordered 20,000 chips from Avalon. We will be ordering Klondike boards, as soon as the design is ready. We are in process of ordering all the other components. Once we have everything, we will assemble the boards and sell them.
  • Once we have all the components, we will start taking orders for board assembly. In this case, you will send us your chips, we will put them on a boards along with other components and ship them back to you, for a fee of course
  • We will also be offering plug and play kits with an enclosure, power supply, cooling fas, cables etc.

Update June 13

We now have sample Avalon chips and few board. Will update when we assemble one.

http://terrahash.com/sample-avalon-chips-and-klondike-16-boards/

Update June 6

We have finished designing the case for TerraHash DX Large.

http://terrahash.com/product/terrahash-dx-large/

I will answer all the questions asked below as FAQ here:

Q. Are you going to design your own PCBs?
A. No, we will be using BkkCoins' Klondike design. We are already in talks with him for a bulk order. But of course, we are still waiting for specs from Avalon, before he can finish the design.

Q. So u actually have nothing for sale, right ? this is just another pre-order story?
A. We are not accepting any pre-orders at this time. We will start accepting orders only when we have products ready to ship.

Q. any ETA for one of your products ?
A. We are still waiting for Avalon to release the specs. As soon as they do it, BkkCoins will hopefully finish the design and be able to send us some boards within 7-10 days, or we will try to get some manufactured locally here in Bay Area. The turn around time for boards is usually 3-4 days. So we hope we will have boards in 2 weeks. After that we will do some testing for about 2 weeks. Basically within a month, we will be ready to assemble and ship upto 250 boards a day, given that we have the Avalon chips. Now that is a big variable, we have no idea when we will get the chips. However we will start taking orders for the assembly service, so that in case you receive your chips, you can send them over to us and we will start assembling your boards.

Q. I have my own chips, can I send them to terrahash for assembly?
A. Yes, that's one of the services we provide. Look at http://terrahash.com/product/4-5-ghsec-modular-board-assembly-only/ and http://terrahash.com/product/18-ghsec-modular-board-assembly-only/

Q. Is there anyone offering hosting of these rigs yet? Can I ship direct to hosting company?
A. We don't know. We don't plan to do it. Yes, we can ship your rigs wherever you want us to ship them.

Q. Do you have any price range for full plug & play product made from chips you ordered?
A. There are two plug and play models we have. DX Mini and DX Large. DX Mini starts from 11.99 BTC with one module. Every additional module is 1.99 BTC. DX Large starts from 21.99 BTC with one module. Each additional module is 6.99 BTC.

Q. Will you do escrow?
A. No.

Official TerraHash representative here.

In order to be classified as a "scam", we have to be accepting money from you. All the folks who have contacted us since this morning, asking to place a pre-order, we have told them that we are not accepting any orders until we have something to ship.

Regarding the address, its not an alley, it is a wharehouse/retail space. It is for rent (see link below[1]). We are in the process of finalizing the lease. We don't have anything to do yet, as we all know Avalon has not released the specs yet. We will be buying the chips boards in bulk from BkkCoins (we are already in talks with him). We are already in talks with different suppliers for the components (again waiting for the Klondike design to be finished). We have already ordered automatic assembly machines (solder paste dispensers, SMT pick and place, reflow oven etc.).

The reason we went ahead with the press release so early is to gain hold in this market that is going to get very competitive soon.

I won't be replying to this thread anymore, and will be starting a new really official thread.

Thanks all.
