1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SEM] Semux - Official Thread on: March 12, 2018, 04:03:54 PM
I believe semux can easily hit $20 once exchanges are available.  The devs are putting in alot of work and there's so much potential for this project.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Japanese Anonymous Cryptocurrency Koto [Yescrypt][CPU mining][Zcash clone] on: February 17, 2018, 01:31:01 AM
Looks like an uphill battle for this coin?  Miners are leaving.

Developers want to take their time.  Hopefully this turns out to be a good project.
6  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's "long-term" pattern of recovering from dips is over on: February 03, 2018, 01:48:36 AM
Bitcoin is not a currency, but a greater-fool speculative token, that is, something that you buy at price X (you fool!) with as a goal to sell it for something like 20 X to a greater fool.  It was designed that way, even though people called it a "currency".  Like with socialism, greater fool games stop when you run out of greater fools.

But greater fools come in armies.  A small set of geeks got in in 2011, financing the gains of the very very small fools that had been heating their computers in 2010.  Then it crashed a factor of 10.  In 2013, a much bigger army of greater fools financed the gains of the hodlers of 2011 and 2012.  Then it crashed a factor of 6.  And last year, the "Koreans and Japanese" financed the gains of the hodlers of 2013-2016.  How low will it crash ?  A factor of 5 ?  A factor of 10 ?   We'll see.
The question is: is there, in this world, still a bigger army of greater fools ?  There's still the whole speculative finance market to take, but beware, these are professionals!   Bitcoin has only reached a fraction of the world population.  There's maybe still room for a last big final army of greater fools, but it will take some years.

As to "bitcoin is not the absolute monopoly", this is true, but the market is REMARKABLY synchronized.  It is as if the whole of crypto was essentially a single token.  Bitcoin has remained around 33-35% of market cap during all this falling of 60% or more, give or take a few percent.  So there seems to be one single "crypto" thing out there for greater fools.

We will see.  I table on at least 3-4 years of bear market.  It might be the final one.   But I table on a very, very big bang in something like 2021 or so.
If we go below the previous ATH, that is, $1200, I think it is done.  If we remain above it by a factor of 2, I guess we're in for a long, cold winter, and in a few years, another mega bubble.  Probably the last one.  There won't be greater fools left after they've paid for the whole shebang.

I don't have anything insightful to contribute but I believe this to be the most accurate assessment of bitcoin price action.  You've got my one and only merit that I have to give.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Japanese Anonymous Cryptocurrency Koto [Yescrypt][CPU mining][Zcash clone] on: February 02, 2018, 11:15:47 PM
is KOTO done by the team who did MONA?  There sure seems to be an increase of interest in this project lately ..
8  Other / Meta / When do YOU think you will level up on merits? on: January 30, 2018, 04:09:35 PM
I want to start off by saying that I think the merit system is having some good results on the forums.  I have noticed that post qualities have certainly improved.  This is mainly an exercise in collecting a mass perception polling and only applies to YOU on a self evaluation level.  What you think your quality of posts deserving of merits is vs what reality will eventually be.  When do YOU think you will earn enough merits for your next level, whenever that may be.  For me, I kinda want to pose this experiment from a behavioral perspective to see if this might be a self fulfilling prophecy as well.  So please guess and come back to update this thread when you have enough merits to rank up.  Thanks.

The logo looks very nice!

Damn, japanese, private and yescrypt??!?? I'm so in! Smiley I'll get my ryzens 5 1400 on it. I'm curious what does Koto means in japanese?

not private at all Grin.
they just didn't promote this coin enough in bitcointalk.org  Grin
you may also notice that almost every japanese coins are successful.  (bitcoin by satoshi, SUMO, yenten) Roll Eyes

I think mroctopus is referring to private as in Zcash private address.  Also is that really true? almost every japanese coins have some type of innovation to be successful?  The mining pool difficulty is increasing alot every day though even with very little promotion.

11  Other / Meta / Re: Please limit merit awards to one per post per person. on: January 28, 2018, 05:30:14 PM
@DooMAD
If they're really not adding anything, then they shouldn't get merit. But it doesn't need to be mind-blowing, either. Someone suggested a feature where all umerited posts would be hidden (which I may do at some point) -- I think that it'd be good to look at it as asking what posts you would want in such a summary. So not just incredible posts which might've taken an hour or more to write (those should probably get 10+ merit), but also the questions, arguments, jokes, etc. which couldn't be removed from a thread without starting to lobotomize it.

It's all very new, of course, so maybe this strategy will not actually be the best, but it is what I had in mind when designing the system.

@TMAN, I have been adding sources, and I will continue.

I was the one who made the recommendation to only see merited posts.  The merit score doesn't really discourage the old timers from posting shitposts for campaign purposes or other random purposes.  Currently the lower ranks still have to read those and it would be a nice feature if I can ignore those.  It would also be nice if members can buy smerits like reddit gold cause essentially this is what merit is right now.
12  Other / Meta / Re: What will you do then? Please be truthful while answering it. on: January 27, 2018, 07:11:53 PM
I would love it if the campaigns were completely banned.  But if that was true we wouldn't have many of the projects that are currently in existence practically like every single worthy alt-coin projects out there.  Ethereum, Monero, etc were all started here first.  If you ban campaigns, you are basically saying bye-bye to the future potential world changers.  It's annoying to put up with all the crap but I think it would be really dumb to ban campaigns.
13  Other / Meta / Re: My take on Merit on: January 27, 2018, 06:45:45 PM

Theymos has said he'll be monitoring it closely and adding more merit sources as he sees fit, hopefully that will be the case and we won't end up in a scenario where ranks are much much harder to come by. I don't think anyone will have a major issue with a slower rate of progression, even if it was halved or so, but if it's 50 times or more then it's a bit ridiculous.

Going by your numbers:
Another viewpoint of math is that this is essentially asking the current 50 merit sources to classify 451,274 posts per month or 15024 (451274 / 30)
posts per day per merit source.  This gives each merit source about 5.75 seconds per post in a 24 hour work period to read / judge / and assign a merit score.

On top of this the merit score doesn't really discourage the old timers from posting shitposts either for campaign purposes.  The lower ranks still have to read those..
14  Other / Meta / Re: Hero members find its difficult to gain 500 merits but members can do easily ?? on: January 27, 2018, 06:02:27 PM
Give it some time.  No one knows how any of this will work out.  This merit thing was basically a nuclear bomb on the forums to discourage shitposters and seems to have had an immediate 'desired' effect but no one really knows the full fallout.  Personally I am going to ignore merits for at least two months and have faith that it'll work as intended.  Without drastic changes to this merit system my bet is that Elon Musk will make it to Mars before some current hero members make it to legendary.  Grin

Don't be such a pessimist. If you are a Newbie you can still become a Junior Member without any merit, and then with only 10 merits you can become a Member - that's feasible. After that, be happy to remain a Member for a year or two. As for higher ranks, don't underestimate the power of miracles Smiley

My bet is Elon Musk will make it to Mars before some current hero members make it to legendary. Grin
17  Other / Meta / Re: Merit is the best thing that happend to new users on: January 26, 2018, 04:56:25 PM
For the most part I happen to agree with your long term conclusions.  If I had any Smerit I would give it to you.  The implementation was a bit faulty cause many members got screwed during the switch.  Some were 2 activities away from a new rank that has been here 6 months and is now the equivalent of someone who just got the same rank yesterday.  My personal feeling is that for something this drastic just give everyone the next rank and I think most people would have been fine with the change.  Doing it this way feels like a kick to the teeth to the people who played by the previous rules.

18  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 26, 2018, 04:24:21 PM

- Everyone could decide who gets to be a merit source. "Applicants" would still gather at least 10 posts for evaluation, and the users could vote for them. Those with more votes would become a merit source. This is far from being ideal, but it is still less "centralized".
- Users would be given a small amount of sMerit, based on their activity (still not ideal, because Merit would be less valuable this way)
- There could be a new type of sMerit that users could purchase, and then use to evaluate content.

I think the third option is better and I will explain why. We all buy books, newspapers, movies, music, etc.
We buy these things because we like it's content, and by buying them, we are expressing just that. So I see no problem in buying sMerit, and then using it to express my support for some of the posts I read, because I liked them. Money is used to express value, so this is exactly what would be happening with this option.

To end this post, I will repeat that I like what this system provides (the ability to judge content), but I think the ability to give Merit should be as open as possible (without trivialization of course). Maybe I will never run out of sMerit, and what I think it could be a problem will never become one, but right now these are the concerns I have about this system.

I actually like this idea.  I mean at this point a merit is basically like a reddit gold.  People should be able to just buy it to reward good posts.  As far as leveling up goes my feeling is the majority won't be leveling up because the content is just average to poor.  If anything I would love to have another setting to never ever see anything except 'merited' posts.  I can't wait for the campaigns to switch to merit rather than activity but it would have been better if everyone just started with 0 merits and have to earn back their ranks rather than be forced to read the higher up's shitpost by default.

Looks like @theymos has kicked the hornet's (spammers) nest...  Cheesy
I love this comment!  If I had any sMerits I would totally give it to you.
20  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 26, 2018, 08:04:34 AM
Earn merit is harder than earn activity. I think the merit point should be reduced a little.
Maybe, merit point required for ranked-up is 50% from activity point is more fair.

Member merit is start at 10 points..Full member merit is 100 points. to get the full member, I need 90 points.
What a long journey Cool

You should see what it takes to get to Hero Member.  Elon Musk might make it to Mars before you become a Legendary Member!
