1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top 5 Concerns About Bitcoin ? on: February 02, 2019, 05:20:33 PM
The design of bitcoin and the increase in difficulty make centralization of mining facilities inevitable. We are already seeing this happen, as difficulty goes up and price does not adequately correlate , fewer and fewer people can afford to run mining farms, as this trend continues the transaction processing power of the network becomes increasingly consolidated,  which increases the likelihood of a 51% attack and also eliminates one of the primary functions/features of btc, the decentralization of the system.

How much do you think bitcoin will be worth when there are less than 5 facilities left in the world with electrical rates low enough to run machines? I say 0.

Just got mine now from first $800 batch. Curious if this will be different than models from subsequent shipments. I'll post some info as I go.

the group chat in the developers section has become quite angry. These miners are bricks

I got the same email. It’s 100 percent scam. It sucks that bitmain has been compromised and that nefarious actors now have our email addresses, phone numbers and mailing addresses.

the first batch is 5000, not 2500. 2500 was wishful thinking. Read back through the thread, this has been verified by a bytom developer

I think they are actually under-engineered, they may have not added kernel modules for fan speed control, which means there is no way to change it. I am very familiar with openwrt because I work with it every day and I have been looking through the filesystem. I wish I had access to the source code so I could compile something better. I have a lot of features i could add. I've been looking.

You can adjust the fan speeds by editing the file /config/bmminer.conf and adding these lines:

"bitmain-fan-ctrl" : true,
"bitmain-fan-pwm" : "50"

That adjusts it to 50 percent the default speed

Here is the whole bracket in my current config:

}
]
,
"api-listen" : true,
"api-network" : true,
"api-groups" : "A:stats:pools:devs:summary:version",
"api-allow" : "A:0/0,W:*",
"bitmain-use-vil" : true,
"bitmain-freq" : "_ant_voltage=0706",
"bitmain-voltage" : "0706",
"multi-version" : "1",
"bitmain-fan-ctrl" : true,
"bitmain-fan-pwm" : "50"
}

I purchased 1 unit. I have to admit it was hard to pull the trigger having just been burned buying a b3 but what the hey. I'm probably an idiot
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Launches the New Antminer B3 Miner on: May 03, 2018, 04:53:08 AM
I bought one B3 from Batch 1 paid for with BCH and DHL shipping. I have not gotten a notice that is has shipped yet and my account still says unshipped (paid, valid though) so I am hoping to get the notification email soon. I ordered within the first 5 minutes that it became available on the site, and the only reason it took me 5 minutes was because the site was nonfunctional.

I can confirm what was said earlier in this thread that there is a bytom developer who confirmed the total number of units in batch 1 is 5000. 2500 units for Chinese customers on the Chinese section of the Bitmain site, and another 2500 for everyone else in the world. 5000 units total. I can also confirm that the bytom developer stated he thought GPU's will be highly effective at mining the coin, with the only advantage the B3 has is that it is slightly more efficient because it uses less power.

Since the number of units in batch 1 is the only unknown variable up until that point, its pretty easy to run the roi numbers, which are very, very disappointing.  If you are able to get $40 a day for the first few days consider yourself lucky, because that profit will happen only because of the time it will take people to get them in the mail depending on where in the batch they ordered and how long it takes them to figure out which pool to mine to.

The discord chat with the confirmation from the bytom developer is still up for anyone to verify at their leisure.

Another interesting piece of information the developer decided to let out is that someone has written a GPU miner program, and that there is a private GPU only pool that the bytom devs are assisting with.

Oh and another fun fact I havent seen posted to this thread, but that is confirmed by the bytom dev is that 2/3 of all bytom coins were premined, and the top two wallet addresses on the bytom blockchain in terms of owners of the most coins belong to the bytom founders, make of that whatever you will, the blockchain is public information. The 66% ownership of all the bytom is distributed already to the top 5 wallets, the top two belonging to the bytom devs. I do not know for sure, but it stands to reason at least one of the other top 5 wallet addresses belong to bitmain.

What I cannot confirm, but am becoming increasingly convinced of is that bitmain shipped the Chinese B3 orders first, and that only Chinese customers will get coupons, especially reading back through this thread and reading the "only in China" type remarks/ warnings.

10 accounts yes

Did you get them to mine with or are you going to resell them?

Also, did you use 10 different mailing addresses or just different accounts. I’m just wondering if they check that stuff.

I'd buy one. Just one though.

I would gladly pay $200 USD for the acceleration of this transaction:

The fee was set too low, not by me.

Thank you!

great info here. I have decided to try using them for a small amount. So far it has been an hour since I made my deposit. I'll update here with the outcome.
18  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AvalonMiner controller using OpenWrt on: September 29, 2017, 03:18:17 AM
I would flash it with firmware directly from the manufacturer just to be sure. You can do it all from the command line
cd /tmp
wget https://firmware-location
mtd -r write filename.bin firmware

You can never be too careful
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: September 22, 2017, 04:15:46 AM
I got my d3 in the mail today from Ross @ cryptocrane. Plugged it in and everything seems good. It was not supposed to arrive until tomorrow so this is one day early. Good fast shipping and fully functional product. I’m a happy customer. The only thing I would have lied to see is to be able to buy the PS from the same place so it all arrived together.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: September 20, 2017, 03:32:57 PM
I just made a D3 purchase from cryptocrane on the amazon store. Just in case anything goes wrong, and since I was on amazon already I also bought a clean pair of underwear. I'll post back here with updates when it arrives. Great video!

Thanks Mellonballer, we appreciate the accountability. We look forward to shipping to you as soon as your payment clears Amazon's system.

On an unrelated note, our initial 18-hour mining comparison is showing zpool.ca in the lead ahead of nicehash and prohashing.

Thanks for the pool test! Could you share any more data about how much better zpool.ca is compared to the other pools? I got a notice that a shipping label was printed for my order. Can't wait.
