1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC to $500, are you still buying? on: April 11, 2025, 09:33:14 AM
Pls don't misunderstand, just an assumption: if Bitcoin were to reach $500 again today, do you think people would still be willing to buy?

In my opinion, it would have two implications. Firstly, it would likely have ruined many people's investments and life savings, considering those who bought in at $10k, $20k, or even $100k.
Secondly, it would reinforce the skepticism of those who don't trust digital currencies due to their perceived unreliability. So, if it happens, would you still buy it?

Tweet that to Michael Saylor and see his reactions. You didn't mentioned though what are the circumstance first that will make the price go to $80k to $500? So that we can see your reasoning and if it possible.

And so it's hard to answer the questions without first understanding what event will lead Bitcoin to go this low.

Michael Saylor would go bankrupt if BTC goes below a certain price point. His strategy is based on BTC going up consistently and that is a huge risk if the market would stay bearish for a longer time. Watch this video which explains the risks surrounding MSTR well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF29eETxsRA

I'd much rather buy BTC directly or if that ain't possible (in a pension account) buy an ETF than buy MSTR stock.
3  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: Funded 0.5BTC 2013 Brass Casascius (ANACS MS68) on: April 11, 2025, 09:18:30 AM
Dan zitten er bitcoins op het bijbehorende adres, die je er af kan halen door de sticker te verwijderen waardoor je de private key vindt. 0.5 BTC is momenteel €35.725,84 waard, een flink bedrag dus.
4  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: RIP Long Traders on: April 07, 2025, 07:03:43 PM
Almost all of crypto crashed 20% in an instance today, liquidating a large number of Long traders, I too lost all of my new and year old Long positions.
Reports claim over $1 billion has been liquidated. My share on that was a small amount. I'm now so used to being liquidated that I laugh at large traders loss than lament on mine own. I've decided to stay away from crypto at least a month before even thinking of whether to buy the dip or not.

https://cryptoslate.com/bitcoin-plummets-9k-as-trumps-tariffs-spark-over-1b-liquidation-frenzy/

I bought some bitcoins today when I saw the price had dropped to 70K euro and am not looking at my wallets today. It's really a tough time to be in crypto and also stocks and even PMs. My treasury bonds are the only thing that is going up.
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: April 07, 2025, 10:53:51 AM
Is it true that Max Keiser now is a Salvadoran citizen and works for the government? I used to watch him on RT a lot but lost track of him when RT got banned following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
6  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: Nederlands! (algemeen) on: April 07, 2025, 10:30:07 AM
Het is wel fijn om op een goed aangeschreven forum ook Nederlandse tekst te zien.

Alleen heel druk is het hier helaas niet jammer genoeg.

Sterker nog, het is hier doods.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: The Trump Dump on: April 07, 2025, 10:14:29 AM
Not only crypto but the stock market as well.

I sold all my stocks except MSTR on April 1 (the day before "Liberation Day") and put the money into treasuries and gold and silver. Funnily enough the latter crashed too.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What would be the best way to get through customs at an airport with your Btc? on: April 07, 2025, 09:55:20 AM
Given that there are lots of people who don't like Trump having pro-Trump/MAGA stuff on your phone might also be grounds for getting harassed by customs/TSA on an individual basis. There are lots of scare stories around, until someone shows evidence of Trump or someone in his entourage having ordered critics to be stopped at entry I'd rank those as either overreach by an individual official or "fake news". I wonder if the US is on the path towards a civil war after having seen the movie of the same name. There seem to be such high levels of civic mistrust. I don't care much for Trump but neither for Harris. Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin if you ask me.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People I think should stay away from bitcoin investment. on: April 07, 2025, 09:04:33 AM
I once had to urgently pay a €300 utility bill and fortunately there was this site called bitbill.nl (long since defunct) where I paid about 3 bitcoins to settle the bill. That would have been worth a tidy sum of money today. But necessity demanded it and back then (in 2013) only a few people (such as Max Keiser and Rick Falkvigne) figured the price could once be over $100K.
10  Other / Serious discussion / Re: here in the UK i remember... on: April 07, 2025, 08:48:12 AM
I have a tumble dryer from 1997 that still works. The company that made it is long out of business but it still goes on. My coffee maker is from 2000, a Siemens Porsche that was featured in Firefly as a "futuristic coffee maker". And I have a mixer from my grandmother that dates back from the 1950s. They all still chug along. They just don't make quality goods anymore like they used to.
11  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How can I remove negative feedback given by toxic person? on: April 07, 2025, 08:40:21 AM
How long does negative trust have to stay on? I have negative feedback from over a decade ago. Would like to make a fresh start.

Maybe you need to step away for a while. Or read up some more.
13  Other / Serious discussion / Re: A bank failure is imminent. Need advice on how to manage my funds on: April 07, 2025, 08:29:05 AM
Are you an American expat living in Europe? Maybe the Netherlands? As we have 21% VAT and I remember if you bought silver you had to pay the VAT unless you kept it at a vault technically outside the country, the international zone of an airport such as Schiphol (investment gold is VAT-free). Because you mention the IRS and unless you're a US person that doesn't apply to someone in the Eurozone. It's getting harder to get crypto over here, the new EU Travel Rule will enter force here, they want you to register every address on self custody wallets with a ID/passport scan and face scan. We will be forced into the Digital Euro and Ursula Von der Leyen said she is going to use people's savings to finance ReArm Europe because Europe needs to be armed if we want to fight World War 3 against the Russians. I don't have as much savings as you (only a few hundred euros) but I wouldn't leave them at the bank. Maybe you can put them in privacy coins such as Monero and come up with a plausible deniability scenario where you lost them during a boat trip or something.

Don't gamble in trading, only trade when you know what you are doing.

Make a list of what your skills are and look around on job sites to see what's available. Use friends and family as a network.

Er gebeurt hier niks meer, jammer.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What would be the best way to get through customs at an airport with your Btc? on: March 29, 2025, 03:15:02 PM
I think in the best technical way to get through without the agents being able to detect that you have a single satoshi. The most logical would be to memorize the seeds but relying on memory would not leave me 100% at ease. Is there another feasible, safe way?

Get a paper book (one you would read on a plane) and look for the words in the seed and underline them, one word per page, use a pencil so it's not so obvious. then write down the page numbers in a tiny notebook inconspicously in the order of the seed words. Walk through customs with the book in your hand luggage and put the notepad in your checked baggage. When you arrive at your destination you can put your seed back together. Even if your luggage gets seized or stolen you won't likely lose your bitcoins if you also have the seed backed up somewhere else.
17  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What's next in EU, yellow armbands for Russians and Belarussians? on: March 29, 2025, 03:00:50 PM
I'm actually shocked that non-EU citizens were allowed to vote in local elections in Estonia. It just doesn't makes any sense. You don't have citizenship of country where you live, but still want to vote in elections. No, things shouldn't  work in such way. Simply get a citizenship if you want to vote. Estonia made great decision, but about 30 years too late unfortunately.
Yellow armbands, c'mon? If I would come to live in US or Russia for 5 or 10 years, that wouldn't make me eligible to vote in local elections.

In the Netherlands migrants can vote in local elections if they have lived in the country for 5 years. This does not apply to EU citizens, they can vote without having to have lived in the country before.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to buy a house with BTC in your country? on: March 29, 2025, 02:47:00 PM
A Dutch guy called Didi Taihuttu sold his house in the Netherlands for 120 BTC in 2017 and moved into a trailer park with his wife and kids.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlHFzczbtis

He is currently a multimillionaire who runs a YouTube channel called The Bitcoin Family and lives in Thailand.

https://www.youtube.com/@TheBitcoinfamily

There was another Dutch guy called Ben Turas in 2013 who tried to sell his house for BTC but withdrew the ad because he had no takers.

19  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bravo! J.D. Vance tells off EUSSR leaders. on: February 21, 2025, 06:27:02 PM
My country NL has put a stop to all construction because of the "nitrogen crisis", a judge ruled this.
At the same time we allow in hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers who get priority housing, the government aims to change this but judges threaten to thwart it because of "treaties".
Native citizens have to keep their adult children in their homes because getting a house of your own is nigh on impossible if you don't have a top income as house prices are driven up due to scarcity,, which is excercabated by the "nitrogen crisis".
The leftwing parties want to increase inheritance tax to 45% so their kids will have to move out when their parents die.
Then everyone in the establishment is shocked that people vote for far-right populist parties.
The establishment wants to ban these parties with a law that has already been written but still hasn't been voted on.
They increased "hate speech" laws so if you do "group insults" you get convicted and possibly jailed.
Somehow this is not a problem and everyone cries when an American VP talks about it.

20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC hit 100K USD: have you taken your first profit in this uptrend? on: December 09, 2024, 07:38:44 PM
I was planning to sell it all when the price hit $80 because I thought it couldn't get much higher than that. Then I read this article. And I HODLed.

https://falkvinge.net/2013/03/06/the-target-value-for-bitcoin-is-not-some-50-or-100-it-is-100000-to-1000000/

Yep you read the date correct, March 6, 2013  Wink

It seems this guy was right. I'm still HODLing.
