Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The big VTC Vertcoin settings thread

As a complete mining newbie, I have some questions (this is the run window: http://imgur.com/mNZFN1I): - What is the hash rate?
- How often/random is the acquisition of coins?
- What is a node?
Hashrate is the amount of work your card is doing. Your pool should give you an estimate on how many coins/day you can expect. You don't need to worry about nodes if you're just mining. Also, you probably want to drop the intensity down a notch, as your miner is showing HW errors (HW: 53). This appears to be having a negative impact on your WU (work units), which is the actual indicator of work done - should be about 90% of hashrate, yours is less than half. Yeah I dropped it to I=11 (HW=0), although hash rate has dropped. How do I find out how many coins/day I should expect? On irc the bot says around 1VTC

I hope to finally be able to play huntercoin tonight. I have a few questions. What are the spawn points where I am to return coins to extract them into my wallet? Will the be evident on the map? How large are they? Will I automatically extract any coins I have if I walk over one?
Also, can I only blow up characters of colours other than my own? If so, I suppose is a good idea to pick a character colour different from that of the person who currently holds the crown, or the character colour that appears to hold the most collective wealth.
Are people forming guilds or working together in any way yet?
They're in the 4 corners of the map. Just make sure to not leave your general there like I did accidentally (you die after 30 blocks). The spawn points are the thin strips with your colour. You pick up coins by standing on them. I haven't tried destruct yet, but my understanding is that you can only blow up other colours. I haven't seen any guilds but I wouldn't be surprised if there are some.

Damn, thank you Snailbrain. This human mining is definetly a new word in cryptocurrencies. Its so addictive. And i have never played MMORPG before. From a 3rd try i've managed to understood a basic strategy and made 15 times more then original general were cost. Keep up the good work. I have a strong feeling this huntercoin will cost more than a llitecoin in notime. Just wait while china will join. In couple days i will return what i have borrowed. Just let me create MORE generals =)
While that may be true, until the setup is made simpler, the barrier to more 'mainstream' entry will be kept quite high. But I'm sure that's something that would be simple to implement in due course.

Added the nodes and it works. Currently at 8144 blocks, hopefully all will load.
Under run type %appdata% and then navigate to Huntercoin. Now open a text editor like notepad and add the nodes: addnode=192.241.222.65 addnode=192.81.209.210 addnode=178.32.31.41 Then save this to that same folder (you can get the quick address by double clicking on it in the address bar) as huntercoin.conf (you will need to have file extensions visible - at least in my case). File extensions can be enabled by going to view and ticking "File name extensions".

Everyone close to the project is still active. If new ideas that seem useful come to the forefront, they will be added. There are some potential devs that we are actively talking to. It's hard to find people seriously dedicated to putting in all the effort required.
Alt coins are not comfortable to SHA256 mining.
Anything we can do to help? Post hiring posters or anything? I would love to capitalize on the China interest. Maybe if there is a infographic that outlines the requirements and salary options we can spread that and get some more leads for you. Lots of interested people following this project. Would love to use this resource instead of having then idly wait. Nah, I wouldn't worry too much. We think we have some pretty good developers lined up at the moment, and I'm working on a powerpoint presentation right now. Looking forward to seeing the presentation, will it be posted here?

I won't quote the whole text: Results: Profits of MtGox, BitPay, and Bitcoinica -> return for Low risk Investors and high risk Speculators Fees for using, exchanging, accepting cryptocurrency go from monopoly/oligopoly level -> perfectly competitive level (near 0) Risk of losing assets if MtGox, BitPay, Bitcoinica go bankrupt, go dishonest, get shutdown go from substantial -> nonexistent Biggest criticism of bitcoin (huge price risks faced by users) mandatory -> optional
Does that answer your question why?
Yes it does, I can see now why having a hypervolatile derivative would be useful for maintaining your value over the course of say a day, long enough for you to cash out or such. It also solves the problem of the middle man. Thanks.

Thanks for answering my question rb. Presumably you could have the choice of both? Or just turn one off if you know you'll always have access to a copy of your address? Not really my department of expertise.
The simple answer would be just to always have a copy it, but then most people wouldn't be in that habit or be tech savvie enough to think of smart ways around it. Mass appeal unfortunately means dumbing stuff down.
