41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best coin to stake with Raspberry pi 3? on: December 08, 2017, 09:42:38 AM
Please clarify one thing. Is there really a need to have a 24/7 wallet online for the stake? Is not it enough to connect it 1x per week?

Right. Staking coins typically need you to have your wallet running, with your wallet unlocked and coins mature. That's how the PoS works. NEO on the other hand does not have to be open to accumulate GAS. You can open your NEON wallet once a month or whatever and claim it without falling behind.
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is my D3 Running too hot? on: December 08, 2017, 09:31:57 AM
Your temps are just fine. Chip temps >80°C are when you should start worrying.

I have several D3s and it seems that chain 3 runs hottest on 90+% of them.
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is my Antminer D3 alright? on: December 08, 2017, 09:28:35 AM
It's normal for the hashboards to feel a little loose. You should make sure you don't hear anything jiggling around freely inside the housing -- that will be a heatsink that came off and if you run it like that, that particular chip will die. Otherwise, fire it up. It can't explode on you.

There's still money to made mining X11 if your electricity costs are low enough (and you can afford to hold your coins for a while before selling).
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer D3 - "Socket Connection Failed" on: December 07, 2017, 08:03:23 AM
In case anyone finds themselves in a similar position, here is what Bitmain advises:

Dear L Lanaio,

Thank you for contacting us. The error message "Socket connection failed" has several possible causes. Please test as follows to determine the cause of the error on your miner:

Please upgrade the firmware: https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=00720160617153633091CybeR3fo06DA

1. Confirm that your internet connection is stable. Network configurations or security settings in the router can cause this error.
2. If the network is good then please disconnect all the hash boards from both the power supply unit and the controller. Reboot the miner with only the controller connected. If the error still appears then we need to replace the controller. Please follow these instructions to create the ticket: https://bitmainhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000024827. Please reply with the ticket number and we will send a replacement.
3. If the error message does not appear with only the controller connected then please run the miner with one hash board at a time. If one of the hash boards is defective please create a repair ticket and return the hash board (for S9 return the whole miner) to us for repair: https://shop.bitmain.com/workOrderGuide.htm

Please let us know if the problem is still not resolved or you have further questions.

Best regards,
Barbara
Bitmain

It looks like I got several bad controller boards.
45  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer D3 - "Socket Connection Failed" on: December 06, 2017, 10:12:03 AM
Thanks, but I checked that. The pool configuration is identical to the several working D3s I have. Cut and pasted between them.

Starting the thread in case anyone else has this problem. I'll post a solution when I find one.
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Antminer D3 - "Socket Connection Failed" on: December 05, 2017, 09:39:51 PM
I'm setting up a large number of D3s (I know, let's not have that conversation) and a large portion of them from one batch constantly reads Hardware:  Cannot Connect: Socket Connection Failed on the Status | Overview page.

It doesn't go away after FW reboots, replacing FW with Blissz, hours of running, multiple reboots, etc. I've tried APW++ PSUs on 110v, 208v and 240v - none work. I've increased and otherwise tweaked board voltage via Blissz FW. Nada. It's not uncommon to get this error for a few minutes on a new miner, but this never goes away.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any tips? I've tried everything on the Bitmain support page (not much) and it doesn't fix it. They haven't gotten back to my support requests yet...
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: USELESS HEATER : ANTMINER D3 , WHAT IS NEXT ? on: December 05, 2017, 08:49:46 AM
For folks in the USA, if you don't like your D3, I'm interested in buying at $300. Not trying to lowball anyone, that's just what I'm willing to pay. PM if you're interested.
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer D3 Blissz firmware (02/11 v1.1 update) on: December 05, 2017, 08:32:00 AM
How was the dev fee hidden? I spotted it immediately. Dev fees are why people put their time into building new tools that we can benefit from. No dev fee = no new miners or FW, and we're stuck with whatever Bitmain gives us. (Not much!)
50  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer D3 Blissz firmware (02/11 v1.1 update) on: December 05, 2017, 01:58:43 AM
Sorry, didn't realize I could flash remotely. Thought I had to pull the controller and use an SD card on the Beaglebone ARM. Tried remote flashing, works great, so I'm happy I can keep up with your new versions remotely.

Still interested in your thoughts for ideal settings for a data center environment.

It really depends on the power costs per kwh. But probably 17 Mh/s per unit (needs a voltage setting ~5 to ~9 I think) would be a sweet spot. It keeps things a bit cooler compared to the default firmware and makes sure you will have less failing units over a period of 2 years I would say.

Thanks. Electricity cost is around $0.04/kWh plus a fixed hosting fee per unit. So I'm best off getting as much hashrate as I can from the units without killing them in <2 years. I've been tweaking my test units the past few hours and feel like I understand the options better. Relieved that I can continue updating as FW improves.

FWIW, I was not at all confused about the dev fee and feel that 1.5% is reasonable if I get at least 5% net improvement. I hope you'll be well paid for your continued FW development. I'm not really expecting much from Bitmain in terms of advancing the FW. One question on the Dev fee, though: I understand that you choose your own pools, but do you alter the unit's other parameters during the Dev fee time? If I have my settings just so, does the dev fee period ramp them up, or just leave them as I've set them.

Thanks.

I'm preparing 50 D3s to go into a colocation center, so I will be able to tweak and administer them remotely via Awesome Miner, but will not be able to reflash with new FW once I send them out. I seek max reliable output over a 24-30 month useful lifetime but don't care about noise, heat or energy consumption (since they will be kept cool and I have a reasonable electricity cost contract).

Is there a setting between stock performance and max performance that is reliable long-term and still increases output (including Dev fee)?

Is the current version solid? Is there an update coming in a few days that would be worth the wait?

Thanks!

All the coins with mining come to very good places and investors do not hurt. Much better if there are japanese behind the project.
Too bad this one doesn't have anything Japanese behind it. The "dev" (= copy/paster) doesn't even speak Japanese.

日本人です Grin
やはりデッブの垢でしたか

これは正当なプロジェクトです ,

btw : あなたがサポーターでないなら、ここで何をしていますか?
I'll spare you the trouble of going through GT (since your use of pronouns and grammar makes it dead obvious), and tell you the same as I said the before. I'm exposing a scam. There's nothing 正当 (you would generally use 正しい in this context) about this project.

In case it wasn't obvious enough to anyone out there, dev responded to me on an alt account in GT Japanese.

それより btw isn't a thing in Japanese.

Sorry to be late to the party. I also read and write Japanese. I have translated between the PM of Japan and the former POTUS. Even with this little to go on, it's quite clear to me that this Japanese is a product of Google Translate. The writing of Tadashii (正しい) is a good example. No one writes it as 正当. That's first-year Japanese stuff.

One more data point...

have been following this all morning with our team.. we were fans of what they wanted to do since we're also building something to power the future of decentralized marketplaces.

really sorry for anyone who took a loss here

this probably won't make you whole again right away.. but it's a start. I hope it's helpful in some way!

https://medium.com/@PayWithInk/ink-airdrop-for-confido-token-holders-54340af8d163

It's an airdrop/swap of our token if you held CFD earlier today. I know trust is low right now so don't worry.. you don't need to do anything Smiley will just deposit into your Ethereum address when we launch. We have a similar long term vision, so at least you can continue betting on that.. thanks!

Nice gesture. Will that include tokens that were held on exchanges at the time?
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are so many people against bitcoin? on: November 12, 2017, 09:33:01 AM
"Why would I want to be on the World Wide Web? There's only 4 sites right now!"

"Right, like I'm ever going buy from Amazon. All they have is books anyway."

"Why would I pay for a 'Smart' phone? No one want a phone to be smart, it's just for making telephone calls."

I'm old enough to remember people actually saying this stuff. Most people have a hard time envisioning a radically different reality than the one they live in. Bitcoin and crypto is another world changing technology. Most people just have no idea whatsoever (see quotes above). Some are threatened and think they can stlll shove the genie back into it's bottle.

We all know better. But because it's so obvious to us, it's hard to understand why others don't see what we do. But they don't. Call it human nature or a buying opportunity.
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I'M GETTING REALLY ANGRY! WTF is happening with this BTC/BCH crap! on: November 12, 2017, 08:58:47 AM
If I'm  lucky, I sleep through these things and just wake up to see some weird blips on the chart.

BTC is not going anywhere. It will gravitate back to it's recent levels and then increase from there. BCC is not getting listed on CME next month and soon after ETFs, BTC is.

But transactions times are abysmal right now. I have a 14 BTC transaction unconfirmed with a 0.00073684 BTC fee for 30 hours now. GDAX and Coinbase are cautioning slow transaction times. I think a lot of people are waking up to the fact that BTC at the moment is laboring under its own weight. (Maybe those 2X guys had a bit of a point.) BCC is looking looking undervalued, and as it always does, the pendulum swings too far at first.

Cool heads prevail. BTC is still the king. Recent events suggest that maybe BCC isn't the sh!tcoin some have been seeing it as.

(The real slaughter is coming in ETH. The have a DAO X3 on their hands right now. When people realize that ETC does everything ETH does at 1/20th the price, we're going to see the same action there, but worse.)

Times like these, thank god I live where pot is legal! Chill.
57  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin the predominant one among forks? on: November 09, 2017, 08:16:24 AM
It is a matter of perception. We call the current BTC the "real bitcoin" because it has the longest PoW, it has the BTC ticker symbol, and the Bitcoin Core team endorses it. These are the key indicators. A 4th, less persuasive, indicator is being most "true" to the original bitcoin code or intentions of Satoshi Nakamoto. In most of the chain splits so far, one side of the chain received a clear majority of these indicators--typically the first 3. Proponents of the minority chain often claim their version is more true to the Bitcoin spirit. BCH may have a reasonable claim to this. Few are convinced.

This is a very interesting project for me for the humanitarian, technological, and financial opportunities. I am too familiar with the terrible losses so many of us suffer due to cancer and science shows that the best way to improve outcomes is to catch the disease at the earliest possible time.

I read some of AA Melnikov's papers on DNA methylation in cancer detection on PubMed and I assume these are the basis for the ARNA BC test. However, I haven't seen much about preclinical trials, etc. Can you point me to the most relevant papers? I am interested in a significant investment but want to better understand the technology and the road to FDA approval.
59  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So how much privacy do we really need? on: October 28, 2017, 06:34:37 AM
It will always be hard to maintain anonymity when a well financed state adversary wants to know your business. But privacy is not the same as total anonymity. Privacy implies that people generally are not aware of your affairs, not that no one has the capability to discover them.

I'm okay with strong privacy from others because I don't believe that true anonymity is possible given the copious amount of searchable data we are all constantly leaking.
