Where do I get free bitcoins?        Discussion thread here

If you have a site that gives out free bitcoins, or know of one, then please submit a link to it in that thread,
or this one if you are still on newbie restrictions.  Any input is welcome including a quick "thanks" or "hello".

Thanks

And I suppose I can just list them here below as well:

Be sure to bookmark this page so you don't miss anything new.

Beware of sites/threads which just copy the entries from this official thread and hides the links behind url redirectors,
making them untrustworthy or a spam-filled inconvenience at best. Also even some of the sites listed here will have their
own list of free Bitcoin sites but hide them behind coinurl and/or adfly links, and other dubious and spammy things like that.
For your convenience and safety it best to just use their faucet, and avoid the other links there, and then come back to use
the verified and maintained list of links here.

If you find this list has been helpful to you in getting your first BTC and you appreciate the time put in to verify these
sites, and to compile and maintain this list, please consider a small donation

You can use this address in one of your daily checks of these sites for example, or a test of sending BTC after
you have used these sites to test the receiving of BTC. Thank you.

Note: Many of these sites only payout once a day, or even less often, to save on transaction fees,
so don't get too worried if you don't see a payment for several hours. If after more than a day or two you
still don't get anything, or you have any other problems, post in this thread. Some of the operators of these
various sites follow this thread. Also note the * beside some entries and what it means as explained under
the list of entries below.

72  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any Merchants Accepting Bitcoins in Non-Bitcoin Related Industry? on: May 15, 2013, 12:57:34 AM
Bitcoins are dangerous to accept now because of how much the price fluctuates. However, I believe if more and more retailers were to accept it the price would become more stable. The best thing you can do right now is implement a system that sells all your bitcoins if they drop a certain amount, say 10%

Agree, with one exception.  If he's looking to invest in BTC, selling his hot sauce for BTC is one way to go about it.  In fact, he could implement a system where it would stop offering BTC as a payment method once he's reached his monthly BTC investment goal.

yep
73  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitCoin Network Hashrate on: May 15, 2013, 12:55:23 AM
Did you factor in the gpu guys jumping over to litecoin? Hell I suspect some of the asic guys will start mining ltc because it's more proffitable too

Except, remember what ASIC stands for: Application Specific Integrated Circuit.

Translation: this device does one job and one job only - mining Bitcoins. I don't have enough technical knowledge to tell you if the Bitcoin ASIC can mine for LTC, but I highly doubt it.
Do they really stand for that?
74  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: new CPU miner on: May 15, 2013, 12:54:37 AM
Hello everybody!

I wanted to start with bitcoin mining on few unused servers. There is no GPU so I decided to use cpuminer - minerd.
I also chose one pool mining.bitcoin.cz (hope it is OK) but there is requirement to use Stratum client or  Stratum proxy.

Is there any stratum native CPU (without proxy) client?
Second question is that I can see few algorithms in minerd:
scrypt    scrypt(1024, 1, 1) (default)
                          sha256d   SHA-256d
what is the difference it chosing algorithms?

Please don't be angry about any language mistakes, I'm not native EN

IMO give up now, mining nowadays is soo unprofitable for the regular users.
