5981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RCN Token - Ripio Credit Network - BUYER´S WARNING on: October 28, 2017, 09:14:27 PM
This is either scam or greed of the highest order, I don't buy the idea of releasing the tokens for trade when the ICO is still on, or maybe the pre-ICO investors are the onces dumping their tokens on the market.

At the moment there are more questions than answers. Either someone is trying to manipulate the ICO or there is some business going on in the background. In any case, the team is not willing to do anything to short it out and that is a bad bad start for this people.

I won´t forget their names if this goes south.
5982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / RCN Token - Ripio Credit Network - BUYER´S WARNING on: October 28, 2017, 07:46:10 PM
Hi All. I want to share this with you, although I understand that haters will hate, but I am an "I don´t carer" and won´t care.

The Ripio Token is on sale at this moment. For some reason the organisers started sending tokens before the sale concluded.

And of course, people started listing them for sale with a 4% discount and without any need of KYC. So if you are going to buy, just go to Ehterdelta and get a 4% off.

I have been asking some questions on the telegram channel, of how is it possible that if the claim of these tokens not being sold with discount to anyone, how is it possible that anyone is willing to sell them.

I also asked the team that if given the situation, they should re-buy those tokens (making a profit!) or at least burn the unsold tokens.

I have been polite and have not insulted anyone, but I only got two answers:

1 - They are not doing anything about it.
2 - They banned me from the Telegram channel.

It is this second action that I find unjustified and led me to the decission of writing this post.

Hi,

ist there a coin profitable to mine with cpu?

Thanks

That would mostly depend on your electricity price. It eats up 50 to 80% of the income. I sometimes think that all this business has been invented by them  Roll Eyes
5984  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining difficult down a LOT on: October 27, 2017, 09:36:03 PM
Just to confirm - the block reward, with the recent ETH fork, dropped from 5 per block to 3?

It looks like the hash on the network dropped a lot.  So, where did all that GPU mining go?

That was my original question. It seems that the graph has considered the decrease in difficulty as a sign of less hashing power.
5985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be replaced by another cryptocurrency? on: October 27, 2017, 07:25:53 PM
Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

I have put a few thoughts together here. I hope is fun to read. https://tinybowl.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/bitconomics-102-where-is-value-aka-we.html
5986  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it possible for the bitcoin to lose it's value ? on: October 27, 2017, 07:24:17 PM
It is possible indeed, I have written my thoughts here, in a funny way I hope https://tinybowl.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/bitconomics-102-where-is-value-aka-we.html
5987  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoinconomics 101 on: October 27, 2017, 01:24:04 PM
I guess this is a good starting place, and I really like the conversation as it feels so REAL that I can relate to, haha! It is true that no one will read chunks of text, so a suggestion is to create a better first impression, basically when you visit a site, the looks matter.

Add some images at the start, like a small comic of the 3 characters (I can draw up something real quick if you want Tongue), and some at the side bars. Since this is a relatively new blog, a short introduction about it, and perhaps you, the author, can help too. Smiley I used to manage a blog about Bitcoin, but I couldn't keep up with the current news and I took an eternal break. Good luck though!

Perhaps you can change your blog name to 'Bitcoinconomics'??

Thanks!
5988  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoinconomics 101 on: October 27, 2017, 11:43:47 AM
I love it that it's on a conversation way because it's make more sense to a real world issue. The only feedback I can give is that I think it would be cool if you add some nice graphics at least to it and instead of just introducing the characters at the top I think it is nice that you include their corresponding names when they start the conversation because it would look formal just like in a book.

But overall I like the way how they converse and keep in mind also some grammatical error out there and some wrong spelling I've spotted. Goodluck you have future in writing keep on improving.Smiley

Yeah, my grammar / spelling sucks when I don´t review Smiley Thanks

Hi!

I have written my two cents on this here.

I am trying to describe the Bitcoinconomics for dummies https://tinybowl.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/making-sense-of-cryptocurrencies.html and would appreciate any feedback.

Note: This is a blogger blog with one entry and does not have adds nor makes money, this is not spam.
Very nice.
do you want to be an author?

Thanks.

Emm .... not really, I am not a writer, I am an engineer with some additional education in business, but I would like feedback on the concepts. The thing is that nobody would read it if I write 20 paragraphs of size 8 text and add 5 tensorial equations I guess.

5992  Economy / Economics / Re: What is your best investment strategy? on: October 26, 2017, 07:47:10 PM
The crypto world can become unpredictable sometimes, making our choices of investing into it, a very limited one. From scams to ponzis, there have been many losses from investors, yet making it very difficult to find a reliable investment.

Go for the ICOs that look promising and try to buy at a discount. Set a stop loss around a 15% and sell if they reach x2. I am not discovering the wheel here.

This works if you have a good eye for ICOs and do your homework.
5993  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Ethereum post-PoS scenario on: October 25, 2017, 11:32:23 PM
My two cents. Ethereum price is driven by a market like any other: offer and demand meet and form a price. In this case, it is a market with very small obstacles to the entry of producers (miners).

PoW Era

The demand for ethereum is driven, unfortunately, by speculation and news but not (at the moment) by real use as store of value, commerce vehicle /payment method nor per the utility to execute smart contracts. As anything speculative, DEMAND WILL MOVE BY NEWS (adoption, bans, projects, posibility to pay in stores, competing alternatives, expectations of increase in value...)

The offer of Ethereum is fixed at 3 EHT per block, that is whatever per minute.

As far as miners are concerned, they go in or out the market if the price makes operations profitable, but the supply does not change.

So price is just driven by DEMAND, mostly especulative.

PoS Era

We do not know yet if the supply is going to be fixed o variable (at least I don´t). Let us say it remains fixed to avoid inflation. Then the price will still be driven by demand, just as it was before.

However, from the miner (now staker) perspective, things change a lot because their production cost is a cost of opportunity (for those who don´t know, that is the cost of not using the money for alternative investments such as shares of companies or bonds) or if you borrow to buy ethereum the cost of your capital (interest rates).

The price of ethereum will be given by the ability of the network to produce profits for the stakers (interests) and that will be related to the real use of the network and ether as a coin for commerce and store of value.

As a share, prospective investors will compare risk and profit and that will determine the price. Also, keep in mind that it will have to compete with other crypto assets.

WILL THE PRICE RISE LONG TERM??? It will depend on the real applications in the long term, particularly if it goes mainstream or a few "unicorns" are built on the ETH network generating many transactions. Also, depends on the competing alternatives like NEO or NEM.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME? That when PoS comes into effect you are efectively a shareholder of the Ethereum network. Help it grow, promote it and be active and we will all profit from it (think of Apple).

Does this make sense?
5994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining difficult down a LOT on: October 25, 2017, 11:08:02 PM

As block segregation is gonna happen on ethereum this time along with the hard fork. We have to wait till the upcoming fork happening day. After that bitcoin and ethreum cost will move again to flight. Whenever the hard fork or halving implementing, that time dump is usually happen.

Don't bother about the difficulty chart bump in the graph. If you fear sell it out. You will surely loose your profit and amount you saved or bought for it.

Do you think that there will be dumping?

I do not fear much, I believe in crypto long term and along with mining I also invest. I do not know what effect will have PoS on Ethereum ... either is cheap to produce and therefore price lowers OR there is more demand as the network fees are lower and the price increases.

It is unclear to me frankly... any hint?

My two cents. This is a market like any other: offer and demand meet and form a price. In this case, it is a market with very small obstacles to the entry of producers (miners).

PoW

The demand for ethereum is driven, unfortunately, by speculation and news not (at the moment) by real use as store of value, commerce vehicle /payment method nor per the utility to execute smart contracts. As anything speculative, DEMAND WILL MOVE BY NEWS (adoption, bans, projects, posibility to pay in stores, competing alternatives, expectations of increase in value...)

The offer of Ethereum is fixed at 3 EHT per block, that is whatever per minute. Miners go in or out the market if the price makes operations profitable, so OFFER IS DRIVEN BY PRODUCTION COST, particular cost and availability of graphics cards and also electricity prices.

Thus, exceptional good news or investment may TEMPORARELY drive the price up, but it will be soon be back to "normal" as more people enter the mining attracted by these prices until is no longer really profitable.

PoS

Once it becomes PoS, the production cost instead of being driven by electricity and hardware will be driven by the cost of staking Ethereum. This cost becomes minimally related to hardware and electricity and very related to the cost of money (interests).

The "producers" (stakers) will chose among buying ethereum to stake it and earn "interests" by minting Ether or chose to have other criptos or fiats or bonds or shares that allow obtaining interests or dividends. Therefore, ETH will be just like any share of a company as far as offer is concerned.

And, as with any share, price will be driven by speculation about the use of the network, real transactions, etc.. and by the attractiveness of the "interest rates"  of staking Ether vs the interest rates of Euro, Ruble, Dolar or whatever you chose.

So, my two cents are:

- Price will change from being hardware and electricity related to the opportunity cost of alternative investments in the market.
- As the yield or interest is related to the use of the network, the price will become much more related to new, speculation and in the long term, mainstream adoption as with any startup.

WILL THE PRICE RISE??? It will depend on the real applications in the long term.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME? That when PoS comes into effect you are efectively a shareholder of the Ethereum network Smiley Help it grow, promote it and be active and we will all profit from it (think of Apple).

I understood that issue rate was going to be lowered, but actually seems a bit better for miners???

profit wise, nothing changed.

It has changed for the better, roughly 25% or so.

What happened? Is simply a consequence of the fork or is there something I am missing?

I do not need moral support nor preaching, just technical views. I would hire a professional for the former.
5997  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / BYTE COIN - Is this cool coin about to die? on: October 24, 2017, 10:32:19 AM
It has been there for a while, quite a good coin, anonymous.... The market value seems really low for its utility. Any Thoughts?
5998  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fundraising with ICOs on: October 23, 2017, 09:01:23 PM
In many cases the new token isn't necessary to the model beyond the initial fundraise. So what I'm wondering is whether there is an ICO model that preserves that speculation value for backers without requiring the long term success of a completely new ecosystem?

Hope this makes sense and isn't too rambly,

It is clear, yet a token (or mosaic) does not need any ecosystem of its own. It relays on the processing, community and team of the supporting cryptocurrency, such as Ethereum or NEM, etc...

Alll the token needs to have is a place to be traded, which is not much of a problem as nowdays there are even peer to peer systems for that and it is easy to incorporate a token into a marketplace.

Does this make sense?

5999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tezos: A Self-Amending Crypto-Ledger on: October 22, 2017, 11:04:11 PM
I bought some Tezos futures. I hope the fud will continue until the tokens will be distributed and tradable on the first exchanges.

Would be happy to double my ICO bag.

Sorry mate, I hope you make a better deal next time!

Tezos: A Self-Amending Crypto-Ledger

http://www.tezos.com/position_paper.pdf

Abstract
The popularization of Bitcoin, a decentralized, trustless, crypto-currency has inspired the production of several alternative, or \alt", currencies. Ethereum, CryptoNote, and Zerocash all represent unique contributions to the crypto-currency space. Although most alt currencies harbor their own source of innovation, they have no means of adopting the innovations of other currencies which may succeed them. We aim to remedy the po- tential for atrophied evolution in the crypto-currency space by presenting Tezos, a generic and self-amending crypto-ledger. Tezos can instanciate any blockchain based protocol. Its seed protocol speci es a procedure for stakeholders to approve amendments to the proto- col, including amendments to the amendment procedure itself. Upgrades to Tezos are staged through a testing environment to allow stakeholders to recall potentially problematic amendments. The philosophy of Tezos is inspired by Peter Suber's Nomic[1], a game built around a fully introspective set of rules. In this paper, we hope to elucidate the potential bene ts of Tezos, our choice to implement as a proof-of-stake system, and our choice to write it in OCaml.

For the news, it seem that the first thing that Tezos needs to do is ammend it´s leadership
