1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This rally could have been predicted by using Google Trends. on: August 10, 2011, 02:16:07 AM

You selected July, not August.
August 3rd: Search volume goes up (as price happens to fall)
August 4th: Price rises (as search volume happens to fall)
Again, the day after higher search volume, the market seems to have reacted.

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This rally could have been predicted by using Google Trends. on: August 09, 2011, 07:55:25 PM
This would also have made you buy on Aug 03, losing money.

This is a search volume graph, not a financial graph. The market lags a day behind heavy news and search traffic. Price may shoot up on a day that search volume falls. Do you have historical daily prices saved somewhere? I do not recall if btc price fell significantly on the 4th.

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / This rally could have been predicted by using Google Trends. on: August 09, 2011, 07:16:38 PM
The markets tend to go up the day after heavy news and search traffic. I had noticed a week-long trend of increased searches but the market had been staying even, so it was to be expected that it would make a strong move. If you were following search trends during the last couple of weeks where price was very stable but drained a few cents every day, search volume for bitcoin was remarkably flat.

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin reddit hits 5000 readers on: August 09, 2011, 11:19:44 AM
Well, it did when this post was made:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/jdd2b/rbitcoin_has_reached_5000_readers_speech_inside/

and then a few jokers decided to drop it from their frontpage so it wouldn't have 5K anymore.

Anyways, everyone who isn't following the bitcoin reddit should do so. Let's get it back over 5000 asap.

d9000, you have a great eye for aesthetics, and your camera work is excellent. What did you use for the pics?

Geesh, your website looks KILLER too. I know that's a template but do you do design?

Pretty sure that thread is the #1 viewed thread of all time on here. There aren't any competing bitcoin forums with traffic even close to what you get here, so it's gonna happen. Shame, but whatever.

let you play minesweeper

act as a heater

blow hot air at you

act as a paperweight, coaster, or bookshelf

lull you to sleep with its hum

act as a conversation starter to anyone who dares enter your mineshaft

Great article, had a few good laughs. Care to share the full one with us?

I'm actually not allowed to, by way of a contract!

Nice one.  That was a fun read Smiley

Thanks. The funny thing is before I sent it to the editor it was even longer! But he probably knows better than me what the attention span of the average internet person is nowadays.

It's not your normal financial FUD though. It's a take on our unique culture that I wrote for Slacktory - kind of like a roast of our community on a late night TV show. You can thank me later for stopping the difficulty from going up much.

I took an irreverent look into our unique culture on Slacktory:

Miners also pretend to first get used to, and then actually prefer the extra heat and vuvuzela-like noise being spawned from their computers...

18  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling domain bitcoinexchange.com on: August 04, 2011, 12:31:27 PM
Good luck, no ill will here. I think the 10 btc min increment is a little high though. Maybe cause it just started.

Haters: All the people who got BTC at .01 - are they supposed to sell now for around the same price they bought it at?
If this flusters you, using the same ratio, you would even react negatively to them trying to sell at $1 per coin right now.

It's not what you paid for it then, it's what others will pay for it now. Sorta like antiques.

Maybe sales of big names should stay on Sedo so no one gets exposed to the reality of pricing.

I'll try this once more at the same price, but now it's cheaper in USD!
