1  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I thought Trezor's were suppose to be secure? on: April 09, 2019, 03:56:25 PM
Thank you.

What bothers me the most is that before the update to Trezor I was able to login with the passphrase I had with no problems. Once I updated the Trezor this all started to happen.

I have retried the passphrase that I was using before with no luck. This is just so frustrating....

2  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I thought Trezor's were suppose to be secure? on: April 05, 2019, 10:14:01 AM
Thank you for you response.

Here is what I would really love your help with guys. I have read all the articles you guys have sent me a few times to see if I understand this a lot better. I want to thank you for that. These have been a lot of help.

I thought I did know the passphase I sent up with the Trezor originally, it was one I normally used and for some reason it is not working.

Here is the process I have been doing to try to recover my wallet

1 - Wipe the device
2-  Go to trezor.io/start
3- Click on recover wallet
4- Click on 24 words
up to this point I have no errors so I am doing this correctly... I think

Here is where I need help with, on step #5 below. I used a passphrase and a pin number to encrypt my account when I originally set up my Trezor wallet. I know what the passphrase is, I am sure. It appears here might be the issue because from what I read on line even if I am successful in entering the 24 words for the recovery if I do not use the correct passphrase that I configured with the wallet I will be just creating new wallets each time and will not recover my original wallet with my cryptocurrency.

5- Click on "I used passphrase before" click no this only if.....

My questions to you is:

1) If I configured a passphrase when I originally setup my wallet as I go through the recovery of my wallet on step #5 do I click on "I used a passphrase before"?

2) If I enter in the wrong passphrase does it just keep creating a new wallet each time?

3) Why in this process if I enter in the wrong passphrase does it not just say wrong passphrase and the process does not let me create a new wallet?

4) If I have the original transfer information from the Exchange I purchased the Cryptocurrency and then transferred it from. Is there a a manual way to recover the Cryptocurrency? For example I have the

Date
Amount
TXID:
Address:

Thank you,

P.S. remember I am still a Newbie at this and am learning as you guys have been great teaching what I should have know all of this before and wrote more down when I originally set up my Trezor.

Hi BitMaxz,

I went through that process they explained, thank you for providing that.

1) I wiped the Trezor
2) Restored wallet using the recovery seeds, and enabled the passphrase. Then when it asked me to login I used the 25th word from the recovery seed to see if that was the passphrase for the wallet.

nope that didn't work. Which I was hoping it would have.

Same issue no transactions, no coins, and the logo on the device didn't change.

I was hoping that would of worked

I have re wiped the Trezor

I have gone to trezor.io/start clicked on Recover wallet

Go through the process of entering in the Recovery Phrases as the it instructs through the process.

Tried several times but doesn't seem to be working.

I lost a couple of grand, which sucks. I was trying to see my crypto on my Trezor but it kept asking me to update to see everything. I just assumed it would go smoothly.

What the funny part is, after I updated the device I was able to recover the Trezor with the passphrase I have been trying. The old logo came up on the Trezor. But I still wan't able to see any transactions.

When you wipe the device and then restore it with the Recovery seed, what is recovered exactly?

Is there a way to recover the passphrase?

7  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I thought Trezor's were suppose to be secure? on: March 25, 2019, 05:51:21 PM
Passphrase is enabled, I just realized that because when I connect my Trezor is it asking for the passphrase and it is letting me login with the original passphrase I used before.

When I go to the advance settings it says

Passphrase
If you disable passphrase encryption, your current funds will not be shown. You will have to enable passphrase encryption again to see your current wallet.
8  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I thought Trezor's were suppose to be secure? on: March 25, 2019, 05:47:19 PM
ok how do I activate the passphrase again?
9  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I thought Trezor's were suppose to be secure? on: March 25, 2019, 05:39:10 PM
I had

1) Recovery seed/Phrase
2) Passphrase
3) Pin code setup.

When I logged in before I would have to enter in the passphrase and pin code using the numbers from the Trezor and punch them in on the website.

Thanks TryNinja,

Then I am not sure why I am not able to recover using my Recover Phrase
11  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I thought Trezor's were suppose to be secure? on: March 25, 2019, 05:13:42 PM
Here is a question,

isn't the recover seed use to recover all your data. If I did:

"Wiping the device removes all its information.

Only wipe your device if you have your recovery seed at hand or there are no funds stored on this device."

If I wiped the device completely wouldn't I be able to recover from the recovery seed? Or does this mean I delete all my funds? I was under the assumption which I could be wrong is that when I use the recover seed everything would be restored even if I wiped the device. Is this correct?

I confirmed the recovery seed before I updated the device in my Trezor.io account. I wrote it down and double checked it just to make sure before I updated the device.

It appears it is the correct one, but for some reason it's not working now.

This should be pretty straight forward from what I assume but something has gone wrong. I am not sure what it is.

I haven't been keeping up on Cryptocurrency in a while. I went to go log into my Trezor and found out I needed to do an update. When I was able to login all my Cryptocurrency was gone. I restored from my recovery seed and same issue.

I noticed now when I recover using my Trezor recovery seed that the Trezor stays with the default settings, my logo is gone, the security is gone, transactions are missing...etc.

Has anyone else run into this issue and if so were you able to recover from it?

Walk into a bank and talk to one of the officers there. Tell them you want to start an account and make deposits into the account only from bitcoin. Be sure to tell them you will be paying taxes from that account.

Did you try that, and if so which bank. So far three banks that have spoken to advise that they would freeze or close my account if they found I was dealing with Cryptocurrency of any kind.

Thank you AdolfinWolf,

If my friend does use this method I will make sure to warn them about the potential risks of having malware or viruses...etc on their system.

Thank you
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Canadian Banks Freeze/Close clients accounts who deposit money from Bitcoin on: December 14, 2017, 11:48:53 AM
Hi Everyone,

I have been reading and still hearing horror stories of Canadian banks freezing and closing peoples accounts who deposit money that has come from Cryptocurrency.

I was wondering has anyone found a bank that is Cryptocurrency friendly and will not freeze your account if you deposit money that came from Cryptocurrency?

Here is an article I found from years ago but I think is still happening.

https://globalnews.ca/news/996853/as-bitcoin-surges-canadian-banks-make-converting-to-cash-difficult/

I'm concerned because I don't want to start exchanging my Cryptocurrency and all of the sudden the bank freezes all my accounts.

I would love to hear if you guys have figured out a way to exchange your Cryptocurrency and deposit into a Canadian bank and keep doing it on a on going bases with no penalties or issues.

Thx,
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Need to Retrieve My Bitcoin that were purchased in 2009 on: December 13, 2017, 06:48:02 PM
Hi everyone,

I have a weird situation. A friend of mine who just told me they purchased Bitcoin when it first came out. They went to a website that had Satoshi's manifest and purchased some Bitcoin from the site. There were given a private key which they appear to have.

1) They do not have the website they purchased the Bitcoins from
2) They do not have the original computer they purchased the Bitcoins with.
3) They do not have the card the originally purchased the Bitcoins on.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but is there a way with just the private key to be able to recover their Bitcoins?

I would need exactly what is need please, if this is possible.

Thank you,

Thanks Ouissem,

I just completed a few trades this week. It was pretty easy. The only challenge is the holding period.
19  Economy / Exchanges / How to use Coinsquare.io on: December 04, 2017, 09:43:41 PM
Hi Everyone,

I am trying to figure out how to use Coinsquare.io before I start funding the account and would like to ask you guys who use it if what I think is the process is correct. As well is there anything that I am missing.

1) You fund the account through the methods they provide, of course depending on the method there are different fees.
2) Here is what is confusing me----- Instead of buying in their system you trade to get the Cryptocurrency you would like to have. Is that correct?
3) They provide you a quote and you make the trade. This trade goes through a holding period and then the funds are available.
4) As soon as the funds are available you can withdraw the Cryptocurrency using the methods they provide.

Is this correct? Is there any issues like certain Cryptocurrencies you can't withdraw...etc. I have just heard/read horror stories of people getting stuck with Exchanges and having issues. That is why I want to make sure I understand Coinsquare.io before I fund it.

Thank you in advance.

Hey Lestat2k7.

I am just learning how to use Coinsquare and this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3aJiGePvCs shows how he Withdraws it from Coinsquare to other wallets/systems using the Public key.

I hope that helps.

How long have you been using Coinsquare? I had a few questions about it myself which I would love to ask someone who uses it.

Thanks
