Thanks Cable, I'll be giving it a try first thing in the morning tomorrow.

I'm guessing it was silver compound, when I was in chem class we were told to be very careful with it or we'll get a chemical burn that will stain the skin for a very long time when we were handling solutions with silver in it. Just a guess, lemme know if I'm right plox!

I think you can even go as low as 850w from a quality brand name.
225  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: MSI Afterburner and Memory Clocking Below 500 minus on: May 31, 2011, 04:01:03 AM
If that doesn't work use AMD GPU Tool to set clocks and MSI to set fan speed. I had the same problem u did, edited the config file and nothing. Tried the restart strat with no avail also. download AMD GPU Tool, it works  Wink

Hey guys I just got my 1x->16x extender and I can't get my comp to pick up the 3rd card. I've tried with and without dummy plug, still no go. Can anyone post up a picture of using a 1x slot with the extender to the vid card? My buddy tried everything even messing with bios and nothing seem to get the video card detected.

Comp stats:

-Win 7 64bit
-Already running 2- 5870, using extender to plug in a third card
-Mother board is Asus P5k Pro with both 16x slots already used and using the extender on a 1x slot.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Try running one of the known-good cards on a known-good slot through the extender.  If that doesn't work, either there's a problem with the extender, or you may need to short the presence-detect pins as shown here: http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=42

Just checked out that article and I see there are 2 pins that must be shorted if the motherboard doesn't allow down pluging. What is it I'm supposed to use to short it with?

I've tried different cards and switched them around and all the cards are in good working order. I'll look into that link you sent me thanks Chris. More help please! I have 400mhash that isn't being utilized, the sky will fall soon if I don't get it working asap lol.

Use MSI Afterburner with AMD GPU Clock tool, thank me later  Wink
230  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (500Ghash/s) on: May 29, 2011, 03:44:36 PM
To many newbies, it seems they are contributing to pool, forgetting the reality that if they go solo, they will just end up paying electricity, wasting time & they won't get any bitcoin.
Pooled mine is for every miner to get some bitcoins stably. You are not contributing to pool, actually your are begging pool to join, so that you will get at least some minimum bitcoins, instead of invalid blocks after 30 days of continuous mining in solo.

I mostly agree that most people don't have enough hashing power to go solo, especially people new to mining. As of the second part of your statement I see pools and miners as a cooperation, I mean the miner benefits from having consistent but smaller payouts, and the pool benefits by having more hashing power and able to have shorter rounds.

Unconfirmed/confirmed should not be affecting the total...
232  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (500Ghash/s) on: May 27, 2011, 10:37:00 PM
Thank you for confirming what I noticed. The missing amount usually comes back, except the one time it went down and didn't come back before a payout. It's like I'm mining and suddenly my rewards from a round or two ago just disappears.
233  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Will someone Help me Real Quick? first mining rig on: May 27, 2011, 10:34:06 PM
I've noticed the underclocking on my sapphire 5870 also. This was after I was able to clock beyond the range that ATI would allow. There was a thread that gave instructions to allow MSI Afterburner to clock beyond the locked ranges. It was a mod to the msi config file. That didn't work for me, but luckily I found a site about overclocking and copied them. I use AMD GPU Tool to set clocks, then use MSI Afterburner to set fan speed. With this method I was able to clock beyond the locked ranges which capped the core clock at 900mhz.

Currently my 5870 is Core=960 Mem =335, getting ~400mhash

Here is where I noticed the same thing as the OP, after clocking beyond the set range and restarting my comp the clocks I saved disappeared, and my gpu was way underclocked. This still applied even when I save the clock settings and even click the option in MSI to apply the clocks are startup. I've just given up and redo the clocks if I restart my comp, which hardly happens since I'll be mining 24/7.
234  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (500Ghash/s) on: May 27, 2011, 10:16:46 PM
No payout was made. I've noticed this for the past 2 days. Here's an example:

I have the my account page open and I refresh it every now and then so I can see my estimated reward and the total. I keep an eye on total so I know when a round is over then I check the Statistics page to see what my exact reward was. My total was 2.64xxxx bitcoins, I hit refresh to see updated stats and it went to 2.51xxx bitcoins. Sometimes it will go back to normal after a few minutes, but I was alarmed today when the round ended and my reward as added to the lower total. So I just lost some bitcoins. I'm not sure if Slush is even aware of this. Can others please keep an eye on their My account page and see if anyone else is experiencing this?
235  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (500Ghash/s) on: May 27, 2011, 09:09:03 PM
No one look at their "my account" page enough to notice sometimes the total reward goes down? I've seen this multiple times a day
236  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (450Ghash/s) on: May 25, 2011, 10:22:55 PM
ok this ain't right. I refresh my profile page to look at the numbers every now and then when I'm on the computer. I know a round is over when my total creeps up a little bit then I'll look at the stats page to see how much I got for that round since it'll vary because I'm using the comp. Twice today I saw my total actually decline. Any reason that's happening Slush?
237  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (450Ghash/s) on: May 25, 2011, 09:19:45 PM
we have lift off...

The dc's are annoying, but my main concern is when the pool goes down for however long it does my card goes from 71c to mid 40c and having that every now and then worries me about my hardware. I want a steady temp on my gpu no 70 and 40ish back to 70. I am sure its not good for the gpu.
238  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (450Ghash/s) on: May 25, 2011, 09:17:51 PM
I just started last night, and I'm running the latest poclbm with my 6970 and pointing to mining.bitcoin.cz (~360 Mh/s at default clocks, -v -w 128).

The only question I have is, why does my "confirmed reward" amount not match the sum of my confirmed rewards listed on the stats page?

My RewardBlock Number
0.02978366126607
0.0300458126603
0.04531619126601
0.04239298126599
0.031207126597
0.04041885126596
0.04498766126588
0.03822266126574
0.04406936126562
0.03143972126551
0.03743996126549
0.04310043126544
0.03367803126535
0.00921723126531
0.0211114126530
0.01621386126517

Adding up those rewards yields 0.53864479.
But I've only got a confirmed reward of 0.31948031.

All of the rewards/blocks used in that sum have been confirmed.

Is there something I'm missing?
It's as if the latest 6 blocks aren't being counted, even though they're listed as confirmed.  Is there an additional delay between showing up as "confirmed" on the stats page and showing up as part of my confirmed reward?

My rewards don't add up too... Keep in mind I refresh and look at my account of the total and what I'm suppose to get from the past few rounds and sometimes the numbers are off.

240  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can a 850PSU cut it for 3 5870's? on: May 25, 2011, 05:25:37 PM
Thanks for all the input guys. I was thinking about using 2 psu's but I read another thread where a member raised concerns over having a common ground for both psus and not having a common ground can eventually fry something, mainly motherboard. For the person running 2 psu's, how long have you done that?
