theres a real trend where on super short rounds like < 1 min , my reward is significantly higher than a more average time round

Perhaps some slower miners get nothing for short rounds and there's more for faster ones.

another thing I am interested in and maybe one of you guys could shed some light on this

theres a real trend where on super short rounds like < 1 min , my reward is significantly higher than a more average time round

do you guys have an idea about that?
On very short rounds, your variance will be higher. So you should expect to receive high payment in some and low payment in others. It's possible you've been "lucky" and so far seen only high payments in such rounds.

im not putting down slushs pool, It is the best choice for me right now, I have significantly mined on the top pools recently and have been studying this very subject. I love Slush's pool but I tell you I loved it more 100 g/hash ago.

I know that theoretically the round times and the rewards per share should all equal out, I understand that but the reality is because of the luck involved in finding blocks, they just dont.

Its a combination of luck/difficulty and user/speed ratios

DeepBit's average round time is the shortest anywhere, and because of all the competition the rewards are very very small, however they still get nailed with 90 min rounds every now and then... plus the fees kill you

if you go to the smaller guys like BTCMine or BTC Guild you get much bigger rewards per round, but those guys are still seeing 4, 5 hour rounds

in theory yes it all equals out in the end but I have really been studying this to some depth and I really believe there is a sweet spot so to speak, where you have a high enough g/hash range to effectively mine but not too high to make competition for the 50 BTC per round too fierce.

I am actually going to write an article about this and publish my findings, there's a real quantifiable speed/user ratio that does make a difference despite what everyone says about things equaling out.

sometimes the way things are supposed to be arent 100% true.
To put it gently, I'm very skeptical of your findings. Please let someone review them before you refer everyone to your article, otherwise it could just spread confusion.

I certainly will offer it up for review before I publish it, I certainly do not want to spread mis information but I think you will find it quite interesting. I am a network administrator with 20 years experience and a bachelors in c.s.

I may not be an expert in bitcoin (yet) but I have a lot to offer and I think I may be onto something

in any case I will send it to you personally and anyone else that wants to review it for editing prior to publication

and let me just say that I very well could be wrong, I have to compare a lot of data at different lengths of time, 24 hours, 1 week, one month and see how everything matches up (which I have not finished yet) so this could just be a fluke but I am seeing a correlation so we will see what happens.

thanks!

Hey Slush,

What is the exact formula you use for your score-based reward?

Thanks,

Immune, your round reward is not important. With higher pool hashrate, round rewards go slightly down, but you're getting them more often. So definitely no reason to worry about.

For very short rounds your reward can have slightly higher variance, but it also averages out after some time. Everything around mining is highly probabilistic, stop watching separate rounds and start watching statistics for longer time period Smiley.

Im sure this has been asked before but I am a total bitcoin noob.

Where can I get a wallet address? How can I transfer my mined coins in there?

start here:

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=7269.0

I read that whole thing, and am still unclear of how I can

A. extract my payments....I have 2 BTC that are confirmed, but never recieved an email or anything
B. how to set up a "wallet" and actually use them

Could someone lay it out in plain english? Thanks! =D

Immune: Pools hashrate improved is not really that bad, don't look at your per round rewards, go to the graphs page every day if you want to check you daily rewards, i check it and i think it just the same. (except the time that our pools just backed up, it is a very good time for me too  Grin)

(if our pool can't improved hashrate the mean we will got lesser and lesser and lesser rounds because the improved of Deepbit. they will solve almost all the block that time  Cry and it 's not good for us)

You have to fill your wallet address on pool profile page. And use "Getting started" page mentioned above to get your wallet address...

I just started last night, and I'm running the latest poclbm with my 6970 and pointing to mining.bitcoin.cz (~360 Mh/s at default clocks, -v -w 128).

The only question I have is, why does my "confirmed reward" amount not match the sum of my confirmed rewards listed on the stats page?

My RewardBlock Number
0.02978366126607
0.0300458126603
0.04531619126601
0.04239298126599
0.031207126597
0.04041885126596
0.04498766126588
0.03822266126574
0.04406936126562
0.03143972126551
0.03743996126549
0.04310043126544
0.03367803126535
0.00921723126531
0.0211114126530
0.01621386126517

Adding up those rewards yields 0.53864479.
But I've only got a confirmed reward of 0.31948031.

All of the rewards/blocks used in that sum have been confirmed.

Is there something I'm missing?
It's as if the latest 6 blocks aren't being counted, even though they're listed as confirmed.  Is there an additional delay between showing up as "confirmed" on the stats page and showing up as part of my confirmed reward?

My rewards don't add up too... Keep in mind I refresh and look at my account of the total and what I'm suppose to get from the past few rounds and sometimes the numbers are off.

we have lift off...

The dc's are annoying, but my main concern is when the pool goes down for however long it does my card goes from 71c to mid 40c and having that every now and then worries me about my hardware. I want a steady temp on my gpu no 70 and 40ish back to 70. I am sure its not good for the gpu.

Confirmed blocks are processed (moved from unconfirmed to confirmed on profile page) once per hour, but stats is online. This is reason why those sums may differ.

ok this ain't right. I refresh my profile page to look at the numbers every now and then when I'm on the computer. I know a round is over when my total creeps up a little bit then I'll look at the stats page to see how much I got for that round since it'll vary because I'm using the comp. Twice today I saw my total actually decline. Any reason that's happening Slush?
