I think Apple would have better things to do than try to compete or replace bitcoin
Plus, Apple clearly will keep it within their eco-sphere ... so nothing to worry about really.
In fact, if anything, it will simply help get people used to the idea of digital currencies which would then be a positive all round.

Let's assume, a new Exchange was being setup to work WITH governments, anti-money laundering laws and everything.
Some questions:
1. Would govt's (like the US), still want to shut it down because of opposition to bitcoin? 2. If they did want to shut it down, how would they do it if the exchange was actually LEGAL? 3. Assuming the govts of the world 'would' be happy to work with an exchange, how would an exchange actually go about being 'legal', and be able to accept ALL currencies with no issues from all the worlds govts? Is it even possible?
Just thinking out loud and interested to hear ideas/thoughs.

disclosure: I am waiting for 3x60gh/s Singles - ordered within first 2 weeks of pre-orders
Initially I wasn't concerned with BFL shipping the jally's - I mean even 200x5gh/s is only a minimal increase in the the network.
But since then, BFL have started shipping a crap load and covering almost all of the first 2 weeks of orders of jala's ... that is a LOT.
In the meantime, the big investors, and I'm talking mini-rigs here, not even singles, the ones who paid the big $ are the ones getting well and truly screwed.
BFL are just so happy to be delivering SOMETHING, and have something to tell customers, they are forgetting the big investors ... and that is plan bad customer service.
Not that BFL cares about customers anyway. BFL know they screwed up, and they know their reputation is in the mud. Why would they care?

any news is good news ... and bitcoin getting talked about again, is GOOD news - despite the stupidity of the article.

Forgot to add that I think that you need to (and probably already are) pay close attention to MAS regulations. Just make sure you're inline with all their regulations etc and you should be fine!
What is MAS?

Just finished reading almost 90 full pages of this thread. Interesting read indeed. I'm glad to see so many different ideas, really thinking outside the box. What I love about bitcoin is that it has no heritage that it has to hold on to - meaning it has no history, no culture, nothing to hold it back. Innovation is available to all! I am currently working on a MAJOR opportunity, no ready to discuss yet, but exciting times ahead

Just sold all my gpu's in Singapore ... now I am gpu-less. Mining has ceased, my office is cooler, and powerbills are down lah Just waiting for ASIC's to arrive now ... one day.
|
|
|
once everyone has one yes... Precisely. It will become like having gpu's before asics arrived. So as the network hashrate and difficulty increases, the playing field for asics will level out. Then it will be a matter of getting more efficient and powerful asics ... but still asics. And those who want to play the game bigtime, will go with the asic farms like they did with the gpu farms.

I've done a few trades on mtgox and was happy with the process. The slowest piece for me is waiting 3-5 days to fund Dwolla. If there are better options in the US, let's add them here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=151453.0So far, for me, mtgox has been fine. But, I'm new to this and am still used to any money transfer taking forever. The more I use Bitcoin, the more my expectations will probably change. just wait till theres a nice movement in the market worth putting in a buy / sell order then you will find the lag and you won't be able to cancel your order. They are using 1 server with like 36 cores or something, they need a rack of distributed servers each with dual gigabit networking or better because it looks like its not a problem with computations but network throughput. Its basic stuff really, They must be spending their time on the new coinlab venture which will such, why anybody would want to move to the free market state of US / Canada is beyond me, they are asking for trouble and I can see them getting raided and shutdown in the future. How do you know mt.gox has 1 server with 36 cores ... where did you get this?
|
|
|
Agreed with previous poster. It is TOO capital intensive to launch a site like mt gox. It would cost millions and millions just to get through US law, let alone the entire free world's regulations... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=215951.0Anything is possible - with the right business plan, contacts, and $$$ - it IS possible
