Stealth Text Details (Whitepaper Rough Draft)

This isn't the final draft of the whitepaper, but I hope it answers some basic questions. Indeed, StealthText is the technology for "anonymous SMS transactions".

The following text explains the illustration below.

Let's imagine Bob wants to send 420 XST to Carol. Bob has set up his own pipeline or is a customer of an online wallet service that has provides a pipeline. Either is possible because anyone can set up his or her own pipeline.

Now, Bob is operating under some constraints today. He has his phone and can SMS, but for whatever reason has no access to his data services. But he needs his transaction to get to Carol securely and privately (anonymously). He can't afford for anyone to tamper with his transaction, like "flipping a bit" to change the amount, nor can he afford for an adversary, such as a competing business, to know the nature of his transaction with Carol.

Bob is in luck today, because he has installed StealthText on his phone. In his settings dialog, he has entered a secret passphrase (that could be a random string of characters), the phone number of his SMS forwarding service (like google voice), and a client ID, that is not essential but can be used for routing (in the screenshots, this is 1zrL2Jk, which is random for the sake of the example).

His wallet (whether on the cloud or in his computer at home) knows this secret passphrase and his PIN , which is the second part of StealthText's two-factor authentication. To make his transaction, he enters Carol's XST address ("SGVQhkwom..", the first S has been cut off in the screenshots) the amount (420 XST) and his PIN, which he shares with no one and has memorized. He then hits "Send" and confirms the transaction. StealthText then sends the anonymous, encrypted transaction through SMS where it enters the pipeline.

The SMS message with the anonymous transaction, is routed to Bob's SMS forwarding service (like google voice) which then turns it into an email that is sent to Bob's email account. If using google voice, this would be a gmail account. The mail is then handled by Bob's mail client (like Thunderbird) enabled with an addon that can send it to his file system, or in cases like OS X mail, send it directly to a simple message processor on his computer that turns it into a wallet command and sends it to his wallet. (We will provide the message processor for Thunderbird as an open source project).

The XST wallet (as of version 1.2.0.1) is enabled to recognize this this command and the anonymous, encrypted transaction. The wallet decrypts the transaction. Because the transaction is encrypted on Bob's phone but never decrypted until it hits his wallet, it remains secure and anonymous until the transaction is created inside the wallet.

As with all transactions, the wallet broadcasts Carlol's 420 XST to the TOR network, which ensures that Carol gets her funds securely and privately.

Note that StealthText has the following attributes:

Anonymous

StealthText is anonymous because no one except for Bob can know the contents of the encrypted transaction while on transit to his wallet. Once there, it remains anonymous because StealthCoin uses the Tor network.

Secure

StealthText uses AES encryption combined with GCM encrypted authentication. This means that a multitude of attacks which try to blindly manipulate the encrypted transaction to change it's value, destination, or otherwise corrupt it, will be detected by the wallet. In fact, the transaction will be rejected by the wallet if just one bit of one byte of the encrypted transaction is modified ("bit flip attack").

Moreover the wallet has safeguards against delayed transactions and "replay attacks". That is, once the wallet broadcasts the transaction, it will not accept the same transaction again. So, if an adversary intercepts the message and sends it numerous times to Bob's wallet, the wallet will not re-send the funds no matter how many replays the adversary attempts.

SMS

StealthText does not rely on Bob's phone having data capabilities. This allows Bob to send funds anonymously and securely from any part of the world where SMS is available, or when his data services experience outage due to adversarial attack or natural causes.

Decentralized

Any person or servcie can establish their own pipeline. They only need the StealthText app and a StealthCoin wallet greater than or equal to version 1.2.0.1. Any SMS forwarding service can send the message to any media of delivery. Email is the most convenient for me, but it could also be http or any other protocol. For the proof-of-concept, I used google voice and gmail. The only glue in the entire chain is a program that can change an email with the message, for example, into a wallet command that looks like this:

Code:
StealthCoind decryptsend '1zrL2Jk,IDlf0wy....'

As mentioned above, we will provide the glue in the form of a message processor for the Thunderbird email client.

I hope this answers questions. I'm also looking forward to writing a more detailed whitepaper and to see it incarnate with the awesome graphics that I'm sure our designer will produce (I'll admit that my graphics are a bit primitive).

We will release the StealthText Android app as soon as we have some testers try it out. Our Android dev is on vacation in the Mediterranean region right now, so hopefully we can get ahold of him to put it up on google play. If not, we will simply release a bundle that can be installed manually fairly easily. In such a case, we'll put it on google play when he returns from vacation. Either way, it will be available to users within a day or so, after beta testing.

Also, we do plan an iOS version for iPhone users and soon after that we will port StealthText to platforms that are not considered "smartphones".

-- Hondo

And the good news keeps coming Great job

Call for StealthText Testers!

With the pipeline complete & new wallet update rolled out, we are now in the final stages of the StealthText release. This means we need your help.

Before putting Stealthtext into the wild, we want to test it on a variety of Android handsets. We are opening a call for volunteers who will get an exclusive sneak peek of the app in the final stages of development.

If you are interested in being in this special group of testers, please reply to this post with what Android device(s) you have. We will publicly pick these testers and ask them to report back findings as a “Proof of Concept”. Within a few days of completion of this test, we shall release the application on Google Pay for the general public.

To apply, you must have:

1. Available Android device we have not tested (we have already tested on: LG Note 3, Samsung S3, & Samsung S5 )
2. Newest StealthCoin QT installed and synced
4. You must be available 08/27/14  @ 9 pm PST for at least 2 hours
5. You must be willing to report back to the community, provide us feedback, and answer questions about your experience
6. Most importantly, you must have patience and a good attitude.

We appreciate the contributions & can’t wait to work with the vibrant StealthCoin community!

HOLY SH#T   this is huge and they snuck it out while i was sleeping another amazing innovations by the stealth dev team. I really wish i could be part of the "test" but i have a LG note 3 and it looks like its been tested already. I cant wait to see the reports back tonight from those chosen to test i already have questions starting a list... Thanks dev team GREAT JOB!!!! glad i bought more at 1300

Just curious - why is the buy support so thin for this coin? 1BTC worth of sales and it's down from 1k to 600.
Because nothing is happening with this coin now and some prefer to sell and spend their money somewhere else. Maybe will buy later. Price is very stable since 3 weeks or more with only occasional dumps. That means coin is strong but people believe they have a time and buy XST after week or two at same price or cheaper. Maybe its truth.

Sorry this made me laugh..... Stealthcoin is 1 day from a release date and there is nothing going on? well again thank you for dumping please do it again tonight i have more buys in place lol  i think ill be laughing harder at your comment tomorrow when i make money off all the coin you dumped....

Waiting to see what happens?

Well i guess the dev team and the bag holders now share the same point of view finally... This is sad this coin had so much potential and so much talent its really sad how one person can drag it to the ground... Lesson learned i hope all choose your CEO wisely when you assemble your board of directors.

Moment of silence for NRS as it slowly finishes its final decent into the spiraling toilet of alts.... its a sad day

It will be tomorow release Stealthsend whitepaper and explanation of stealth technology? Or is there any delay for that news,i`m really waiting for explanation, coz im not understanding this very well.thanks

StealthSend is still on target to be released at the end of September. To protect our IP, we are pushing back the whitepaper to about 5 days before that time.

We are working on wallet enhancements and some mobile sending technology to bridge the gap. We'll hopefully have an announcement about these developments in a few days.

OMG! 7 August was the date for whitepaper release! I dump now!

So basically if you read what he wrote the concern is that if they publish the whitepaper before development is further along other coins will attempt to beat them to market. This whole OMG you must publish a white paper BS is driving me nuts half you trolls dont even read it let alone understand it you just want to see it.  As we have already seen in the last month XST has been a target for copy cats some just taking code base and adding to it some just blatantly ripping it of website and all. The last thing that XST needs is to prematurely reveal how they are making stealthsend and have one of the copy cats beat them to market with it. Most companies try at all cost to avoid  competition and keep big plays like the game changer stealthsend is going to be very close to the vest. I personally applaud the teams effort to protect my investment and i am waiting patiently.

It's going to happen! Smiley

So im confused and it took 30 pages to figure this all out i guess.....

When you say GOING TO WALL STREET!!!! you actually mean going to sit at a table and hand out paper...... maybe you should change the title its kinda misleading or do a better job explaining what your doing at wall street.

So the website the wallet and the code base all seem to be XST clones does that mean i can look forward to you adding what they are releasing soon?

I know you plan to go to Switzerland and try to get added.... But if that fails (which unless you have millions of dollars it probably will fail) what can i look forward to? are you doing any actually development work or is this a PR coin where you take what you can from others and just PR the shit out of it...

i guess my question really is other than HYPE what will you be developing or can you develop anything?  or is this a coin-gen style copy pasta coin...

i am not trying to piss you off or poke at your coin im not even here to troll i am just seriously wondering what is next and i am personally to smart to fall for the Switzerland BS because it wont happen so is there and obtainable goal you are working on? Or new Tech that will come from this coin?

thanks for you answer in advanced.

Hey,

First of all the website is not a copy paste of anything, I don't understand why you and some other people say so.

Second about the StealthCoin code copy that you all talk about, I can't say, because the initial code was not started by me but by another dev that is not working for ARCoin anymore (He failed to reply already for many weeks). However we have full control and we implemented the latest fix for the syncing issues.

About the Wall Street event, we are going to have a group of girls handing out information about ARCoin to traders and business people passing by, this is our target.

We want to let them know that ARCoin exists and how they can invest in it.

Regarding future developments, we were thinking about implementing anonymous transactions, but to be honest as we see it, the network is already anonymous enough with TOR, and for any kind of "Anonymous" transactions in the crypto world, as far as we know, we would need some sort of centralization - which is not good.

About the ETF, I do have money, and I will try to make the ETF a reallity, the biggest issue is not the money but the legality, and this is what we are trying to clarify.

Besides this, we are opened for any other implementations that we may see as a good potential for ARCoin.

I appreciate your speedy reply...

1. it concerns me you dont know where the codebase came from makes me wonder if you have a "dev"

2. also it may not be a copy paste of the XST website but it is clearly the same template which is fine premium templates are available for all to purchase just wasn't sure if it was intentional.

3. Tor is not a way of making any transactions anon it does mask traffic but does not protect the block chain from analysis and therefore can be tracked back to the original sender.

4. Legality of ETF will be expensive having "money" and being prepared like the twins are 2 very different things my concern is to many eggs are in this basket and there is no fall back if it fails.

5. handing out paper to rando's on wall street is interesting and fun but they will have questions much like i did about the direction the coin is headed and i dont feel that you are prepared to answer those as you just danced around mine

thanks again and GL

1. Nothing to worry about, all github code is on our side and all is under control. Btw, you do trust Bitcoin while Satoshi Nakamoto is not around right?

2. It has surely nothing to do with XST, give me a break on this.

3. The way we see it is enough, because if no one knows where the transactions came from (Your IP) then nobody will know who you are unless you choose to give out your information. Governments are able to track from where Bitcoin transactions come from (From which IP) with network sniffing and in this way they can track a Bitcoin address to a physical person (This is the NSA job). However with TOR, that is not the case.

4. As I openly posted the Wall Street event expenses, I will do the same when it comes to the ETF subject.

5. Questions are welcome, better they have questions than know nothing about ARCoin Wink

Thanks

1. Bitcoin has nothing to do with this as they have a team of developers working to maintain it i was expressing my concern as to if something where to happen would you be able to fix it or do you have a team member that can.

2. break given

3. Tor has been cracked many times by the NSA and other governments it is not a secure way to mask an ip as you can read a bit about here.http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/09/majority-of-tor-crypto-keys-could-be-broken-by-nsa-researcher-says/

4. i appreciate your transparency on the subject of money but does not address my concern if worse comes to worse what is the backup plan if Switzerland says no? bitcoin doesnt need a backup plan if it fails but this coin is hedging all its bets on this avenue and it is concerning.

5 questions like what are future plans? if you dont succeed in Switzerland what is next? What is different about your coin?  What is Tor how does it protect me (obvious you dont understand this concept honestly) how is this better than (insert coin here)?

i just dont see the average joe caring enough to even take your pamphlet my recommendation is post someone to hand them out then a person at the nearest trash can to pick them back up.

Allright, I am staking right now finally Grin and just received first mined coins:

Great to hear glad it was solved hope the info provided was helpful

The other thing i noticed from your picture is you have only 5 very large transactions it would be helpful if you broke those up a bit.

More info would be great....... did you even try anything i just posted 2 min ago......

that is stand for any proof of stake coin. when you stake you destroy coin age in order to do so thats why its important to have multiple inputs. In regards to splitting the input in half. again this is the way stake works. it takes the input calculates the percentage of stake, and then creates two new inputs of close to equal value totaling the initial input plus the stake.

A very good point was made here... You should really split transactions up. Example: if i have 20,000 xst in a wallet it would be to the advantage of chain health to break that amount into 20 1,000 XST transactions instead of 1 20k transactions.  The reasons this is important at this point is because a lot of this coin has been kept on exchange due to the amazing volume upon launch. This is great for a POW coin but a POS only phase is negatively effected by this practice and causes very slow long block times because no new POS blocks are minted. By breaking up large chunks we can make sure that constant stake is flowing through the chain.
A lot of the reported "issues" i think are due to this. I also think DNS ISP and Firewalls effect this coin  more so than ever as many of those services by default limit or even block TOR services.
What should i do if it is "stuck" or not connecting
1.  The first thing you should do is try closing the wallet and re opening it refreshing the connection to tor (this could be a limitation of your DNS or ISP)
2. Add exceptions to your firewall for XST client ( especially in windows sec essentials it hates tor with a passion)
3. Try another DNS Please try the following under "Network Connections", right click and edit your connection then go to IPv4 and IPv6 as follows:

The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows:

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
The Google Public DNS IPv6 addresses are as follows:

2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844
(thank you stat dude)

4. Try a VPS and host the wallet their and see if it connects ( if this is the case it may be your ISP blocking TOR that sucks and this is really the only way around it)

The fix is now at github. We are building wallets now.

If you build from source please update with the source as soon as you can.

https://github.com/StealthSend/Stealth

Edit: The Windows wallet will be available in 10 minutes or so.

we also recommend buying stock in Starbucks coffee as after the purchases made tonight by the dev team next quarter numbers should show a decent return  Wink JK we make our own coffee lol

I think I know the reason dump. It's probably have to do with wallet problem and block explorer haven't generate a block for quite sometime now. I hope the DEV fix this soon. I guessed even this kind of small problem create panic in crypto world.

there are working on it :-). We can see that the team do there best for this coin. And when there is an issue is not a reason to dump because the team will fixed it fast. So there are active on the IRC and told everybody that there are working on it :-)

Grndnpnd
give us at leas 1.5 hrs to compile all the wallets
Grndnpnd
acceptable?

We have found the bug and are currently working on compiling the update. Give us a little time we are working as quickly as possible for 2 am. We apologize about the delay and appreciate your patience and support.

Thanks for answering!

NP will have more info here very soon

From IRC:

**new wallet out PLEASE UPDATE (1.0.2.1)
**Bittrex never left correct fork
**2nd fork was with some pools only
**There may be some changes to the coin

Impressive dev team and work. Dev team is larger and more cohesive than originally thought (at least 5 members)
After all fixes are running smoothly lets move the conversation to roadmapping future development. I will be happy to assist with this.

the question who are they? chance for altcoin to survive and flourish is only dev reveal who they are so people know it can be serious.

ah, you mean like Satoshi did?
bitcoin is different story. like SHA-256 ASIC and scrypt ASIC is different story. SHA-256 bitcoin going to survive but scrypt ASIC going to die out. you can't compare scammers to Satoshi. this is the reason scammers think they can get away like Satoshi but none can. none of the top 20 altcoins have anonymous dev, all revealed who they are.

if you joined the IRC chat maybe you would know who the devs are some have come out during the recent issue to help community members get updated and on the correct chain. Just because other coins have done something a certain way doesn't make it the only way. I do believe that is what people have been screaming about copy paste this rip of that. These devs are doing something different a new way of doing business a new advancement in tech. I think you are putting to much stake into who is behind what you invested in instead of what makes up your investment. I do understand you frustration with whats going on but if this where a scam wouldnt that premine have dumped as soon as the network went wonky. This team just put in hours making sure that this coin survived the trial it was just put through. I guess im wondering if you do a background check on your mail man before he delivers your paycheck? i like the ANON devs it goes well with the ANON coin.

Any chance you could help with the pump back up to the 1000's sats seeing as the fork kinda forked it all up? ;-)

They kind of did by providing a fix as quick as they did.  Excellent Dev response time.  That said...it is the responsibility of the Dev to provide a functional coin and not to participate in quick pumps/dumps because the price is not where some would like it.

I think that after only three days that there is much room for growth and patience would be key here...Wink

I'm really pissed and I won't argue or answer.
The number of peers we get to our wallet is very low to none, we were fine after the update then dropped to 0 peers then back to 4, now we have 2...
