221  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How to use ASICMiner Block Erupters with CGMiner on Windows 7 on: September 06, 2013, 01:34:15 PM
./cgminer -n

If they don't show up then my guess would be a USB3 port that libusb doesn't know how to deal with.

Code:

C:\Users\Admin\Downloads\cgminer>cgminer -V
cgminer 3.4.2

C:\Users\Admin\Downloads\cgminer>rem no block erupters plugged in

I also ran cgminer with this command line, in case it provides any further useful info.  Here's the first few lines of the output.

cgminer-nogpu --debug --verbose 2>cgminer.debug.output.txt

222  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How to use ASICMiner Block Erupters with CGMiner on Windows 7 on: September 05, 2013, 06:41:55 PM
OK, I have a strange situation here, maybe y'all can help me make some sense of this.

I recently moved, but I didn't take my computer with me. When I got to my new place, I bought a new Core i7 4770K based PC with a Z87 chipset based motherboard, a 7970 graphics card, and all the other usual accoutrements.  Brand new hard disk.  Installed Windows 7 Ultimate, drivers for the motherboard and graphics, Microsoft Security Essentials, 7-Zip, and nothing else.  Ran Windows Update until it ran out of things to patch. Downloaded and unzipped Zadig and cgminer, but didn't run them yet. So far, all normal.

Next, I plugged a single Block Erupter directly into USB slot on the case.  Windows dutifully reported that the driver failed to load. I ran the Zadig tool and installed the WinUSB driver. Now the device appears properly in the Device Manager.  If I unplug it and replug it, Windows doesn't give any error messages.

Next, I ran cgminer. It asked for my pool info, which I entered.  It found my graphics card, but not the BE.  It didn't give any error message indicating USB problems or anything like that.

Confused, I saved the config file, exited, and ran cgminer-nogpu.  It reported no devices found at all.  Unplugging and replugging the BE did nothing.  Trying other slots, USB2, USB3, all elicited no response from cgminer.  Tried a hub with a BE in it, same thing -- no response from cgminer.

My USB ports work normally.  If I plug a USB thumb drive or keyboard into the same slot as the BE, it works without issue.  There's no yellow ! sign in Device manager.  There's no error message from cgminer about missing drivers, or anything like that.  It just ... doesn't see the block erupter.  Any ideas?

(Once we get to the point where cgminer sees the BE, I'll ask the follow up about why this PC says it runs out of USB resources after about ten devices...)

Edit: Couple more bits of info.  I've tried this with cgminer 3.4.1 and 3.4.2. I run cgminer with no command line options, just the config file.  I also tried editing the config file to delete everything except my pool. I did read through the various readme files, but nothing pertinent jumped out at me.

I did try multiple different BEs, and all had the same result.  I also tried with multiple BEs plugged in at once.  No joy.  Unplugging and replugging while cgminer was running didn't do anything either.

The HDD was reformatted, so there's no weird software lurking around.  If you deem it necessary, I'd be happy to reformat the disk again. I have access to all current versions of Windows, if you want me to try something else.  Other than this glitch, the computer seems to work normally. When mining with the GPU, it seems to be perfectly fine and puts out somewhere north of 500Mh/s (I don't remember the exact number, but it seems in the ballpark for this card on stock settings).

For those who aren't aware, today is Labor Day in the US -- a national holiday.  It's a three day weekend, and the traditional end of summer, so most people take a break from reality and go do something fun. Businesses almost uniformly close, except maybe for retail shops.  I wouldn't blame Steamboat at all if he's taking the long weekend to spend time with family or do something non-business related.  Give the poor man his vacation.  I'm sure he'll reply when he gets back and catches up with what's been happening in the interim.  (And yes, I'm guilty of peeking in on work-related stuff during my vacations too, but that doesn't mean I reply to every single message and request that came in while I'm away -- I maybe answer one or two, then do the rest when I get back to work after the holiday.)

And if you're upset that someone took a day off on a national freaking holiday, well, heads up -- you're not the center of the universe, and your concerns, no matter how major they seem to you, are not shared by everyone else.  Take a breath and realize that in the greater scheme of things, one day more or less won't matter.  We all knew the risks going in. The most obvious and brutal risk was the one where we lose absolutely every penny invested. That risk still exists. I don't think antagonizing the one person who could mitigate it is a wise move.

1 - Reinstalled the operating system
2 - Installed all the drivers
3 - Installed any and all software
4 - Created a RESTORE POINT (IMPORTANT: Do not insert a single erupter before this point)
I wonder, would you be able to do this with a virtual machine instead? Create a VM with just Windows 7, cgminer, and the drivers installed, then save the state.  Next plug in the miners and do the USB device forwarding. Then, if there's some sort of issue, just reset the virtual machine to the saved state each time. I guess the hard part would just be forwarding 181 USB devices to the virtual machine...

If you're running off a Raspberry Pi, then you're restricted to USB 2.0 hubs.  Just to keep my life simple, I've standardized on a single USB 2.0 hub (D-Link DUB-H7) and I'm using multiples of it for both my PC and my RPi.
227  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 2 Gh/s QuickMiners by aquickcnc - Anyone try these? on: August 23, 2013, 06:58:08 PM
Look at the picture: CGminer status - started 1970-01-01  Grin
That probably means he's running the Erupters off a Raspberry Pi with MinePeon on a wireless connection.  It's a known issue in MinePeon when using Wifi; the older versions don't update their time at all (unless you ssh in and do it manually), and newer versions only update after about five minutes of being turned on.

Also, if you start CGminer without any hardware at all plugged in, then plug it in after boot, it won't show the hardware status lines, so that could be a legit screenshot.

Having said that, I wouldn't buy from this guy.  If it really is six Erupters, it's way overpriced, and if it's something else, it's probably a scam.

I would say make sure you have some sort of fan blowing on them, even just a small USB fan.  Plus, since you are using Windows, download CGWatcher and run it.  It will watch for the crash and if so will restart them.
I do have a fan on them; I'm also debating whether to add another one or not.  The miners are distinctly warmer now since I added the last batch of 10.

Thanks for the tip about CGWatcher! It seems to be exactly what I need. =)

I do plan to eventually port my rig over to an RPi, but that can be an adventure for another day. =)

Hubs 2-5 each contain six block erupters.  Each is plugged into hub #1.

What is the current rating of your hub power supplies?  You need more than 3 Amps as each Erupter draws .5 Amp.
3A, 5V power supplies.  Over on the USB hub thread, these have been consistently reported as supporting 6BE each, sometimes 6 + a fan.
230  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC FPGA GPU overc monit fanspd RPC linux/win/osx/mip/r-pi 3.4.0 on: August 23, 2013, 03:22:47 PM
Greetings.

I'm a recent entry into the world of ASIC mining. Smiley I've got a small array of 31 ASICMiner Block Erupters that I'm trying to set up as a "fire-and-forget" setup that I can just run in a remote location (where I get free electricity).  Eventually I plan to run this off a Raspberry Pi, but that's a story for another day. Smiley

Right now, I'm using a Windows 8 x64 PC as a host. I've consistently been getting crashes when running cgminer.  Here's my setup:

6x D-Link DUB-H7 hubs

Hub #1 is the "master" hub.  The other five connect to it.  Hub 1 also holds a USB fan and a single block erupter.
Hubs 2-5 each contain six block erupters.  Each is plugged into hub #1.
Hub #1 is connected to my host PC.

I ran the zadig tool and configured the drivers.

With cgminer 3.3.1, if I plug in the array first, then start cgminer, cgminer will instantly crash.  If I start cgminer first, then plug in the array, it seems to work.  At least, I didn't experience any crash issues.  However, this is unsustainable as I plan to run this rig remotely, so I need to be able to reboot the machine periodically without having to unplug and replug the array.

With cgminer 3.4.0, I can start it with the array plugged in, and it hashes normally, at expected values.  However, after about 1-12 hours (varies), it crashes as per the screenshot below:

In this screenshot, it crashed after only about an hour of running.

My config file only contains my pool info, no other options.  I start cgminer with a shortcut in the startup folder in windows, which just runs the executable - no command line options.  Alternately, when restarting cgminer after a crash, I double-click on the .exe.

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

I'm thinking of just using the looping-restart batch file someone posted earlier in the thread, but that's just a workaround, not a fix.

(Side note: My PC has an AMD APU, which cgminer picks up and runs for an extra 50MH/s.  Bonus! Smiley )

Uh ... I'm not sure I understand this offer. The BE's are being sold outright for 0.33BTC each, plus maybe 0.06BTC for shipping in the US. No coupon needed, and near unlimited quantities. Did you perhaps mean a 0.1BTC coupon offer? A link to the other thread you mention would also be helpful.

Edit: Did you mean you're selling them at 0.44BTC each, 0.25BTC each, or 0.25BTC total? Sorry, I'm not reading right tonight. If the last one, I'm interested. Smiley Let me know and we can work out shipping.

I would like to switch the page over to a completely new format.  Same info, but much more useful.  At the moment I am posting tables taken from a spreadsheet.
Why not simply post the spreadsheet itself? A few years back, I used a service called EditGrid, and I think Google has an online spreadsheet as well.  You can set it up to be read-only, and I think you can even hide the formulas if you want.  The benefits would be that people could download the data, sort it, even edit their local copies if they so choose.  It also makes it easier for you to update, as all you'd have to do is upload the current version of your sheet.

no idea why people pay so much for Hubs...

I use 12 year old USB 1.1 Xircom 7 port hubs. Their supply is 5v 3.7amps. I do 6 per hub and they are stackable.

Link on where to buy them, please?  Grin

Legal action is something that WILL get people's attention. Why should YiFu be allowed to get off with no consequences? Sure, future business may be affected. Although IF there is a legit, proven Avalon 2 Gen that is not a pre-order; don't you think that people will flock to it?
Many times, companies settle out of court as well. Personally I think that BitSyncom/YiFu would need to quickly reconsider under strong legal action.
Ok, fine. If this is what you believe, then put up or shut up. Go hire a lawyer and do it yourself. Quit demanding that others do it for you.

Then come back and tell us what your lawyer thinks of this proposition and your chances of collecting anything.

One error. The xCrowd Pavonis 30GH is listed at 60000 MH/s. One number or the other is wrong.

The Tek Republic TUH-2700 is on sale at NewEgg for $13 for the next day or two. Linky.

How much are you thinking?
Current asking price is 6.55BTC (this would cover priority shipping within the US, but not 2-day/overnight/international)
That's the total for both units, correct? not each?

If it were the batch 2 units, I'd be very interested.  Batch 5 ... not so sure, but maybe.

Keeping an eye on this. Btw, you still have several references to FastHash in the OP.

I ordered the BIGTec 10-port hub, figuring it's still pretty cheap even if I only get three usable ports out of it.  But when I opened it, I got a nasty surprise.  Even though the box clearly states a 2A power supply, the label on the adapter inside shows only 1A (1000mA).  It's going back to Amazon on Monday. =(
