1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Otho.network scam - beware on: March 03, 2018, 04:29:50 PM
This was a complete surprise for me, for $ 300 I received an excellent lesson and life experience  Cool
Same situation here. Lesson learned for sure. I have been hit by a few exit scams and fortunately, only put in a few hundred dollars in a few of them, so it stings but I knew the risk when investing.  Will make me question some of the other airdrops I'm part of.  Otho sure went the extra mile for their possible small return.
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Repercussion of submitting into a scam airdrop? on: February 03, 2018, 05:07:16 PM
Well, it was bound to happen as I follow airdrops. The form looked good, the "secure" was GREEN and the data on the form seemed authentic. But, it was a scam airdrop requesting ETH donations for bonuses. Money gone, not a lot, but lesson learned.

Question- Can anyone get into my MEW with just my MEW ER20 wallet address? No private key disclosed, of course. Did provide, the usual twitter, telegram profile info. Should I worry about any other potential issues?

You're asking if someone can get into your MyEtherWallet with just your public adress? I wouldn't hope so, because that would mean that anyone that has access to a block explorer could get everyone's funds.  Tongue

Should I worry about any other potential issues?

If that's the only thing that you gave them, your adress, then there isn't too much to worry about. You might receive some spam email  ( if they're selling their userbase..). If you connected your twitter through an api ( gave them permission to do or see X, you should remove that. )

https://help.twitter.com/en/managing-your-account/connect-or-revoke-access-to-third-party-apps

No critical info was shared. Only social links etc...have taken down what I can and as noted in the other response, will create a new airdrop specific wallet (only use this to get the drops and them move to my trezor/MEW or another wallet.

Thank you for the guidance.

is it "possible" yes -- but it's one of those let the machine run for X # years to reverse the key type deals

keep an eye out for any exploits around public keys and be ready to create a new wallet just in case

but otherwise sounds like you've learned your lesson with minimal loss

good luck
Thank you. I only use this MEW wallet for airdrops and then move the coins to my Trezor/MEW wallet, when possible. So, I guess if they can get into this somehow, they wouldn't get too much anyways. I think it might be time to create a new airdrop wallet and move on.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: AChain (ACT) - ABTC fork Jan 12 - 10X soon? on: January 27, 2018, 03:39:28 PM
Hi All,

I have had my ATC coins in the KuCoin Exchange for all of Jan 2018.

I have not received the forked ABTC coin - is there a support channel that can look at this for me?

Thanks

On the bottom of the Kucoin site is the support email. I just sent them a note that I also have not received the forked coins and had ACT in my account before the fork as well.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crowdsale Opportunities? (vs. Pre-ICO and ICO) on: January 11, 2018, 04:49:24 PM
As you probably know, US residents cannot participate in Pre-ICO's or ICO's per SEC (really sucks) but Crowdsales are fine. Anyone know of a good resource to track upcoming crowdsales?
Hello there
Here in crypto ICO and crowdsale are the same things
I think you refer to utility token but not security
For example, I know 2 projects from US with utility tokens and open to US residents - DataWallet and FCFL. Quite interesting projects by the way
Please check announcement thread there you can find all upcoming ICO/crowdsales/tokensale
But you need to ask each team if US citizens can participate in such

Thank you very much on the direction.

8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The $1000 game on: January 10, 2018, 07:03:56 PM
I'm a bit more on the aggressive side and for long term investments, would lean this way with the allocated $1000.

-$400 KuCoin (KCS) ("dividend" returns to coin holders based on Kucoin's success)
-$300 Dragonchain (DRGN) Dev team and direction looks very positive (Kucoin)
-$300 Simple Token (OST) Product and team looks great and early days for this coin. (Binance)

Take profits above 50% gain, with each coin, and in invest in some of the Dragonchain ICO programs happening this year.

My 0.000002 BTC.

9  Other / Beginners & Help / Binance Profits to Fiat (least amount of fees) US based on: January 05, 2018, 05:36:16 PM
Question. Anyone know the best way to get a profit out of Binance (assume 10K) and get it to Fiat with the least route for fees? I am aware of the tax implication once "cashed" out but not sure on the best process to make it all eventually get to my savings account. Any suggestions?

The app looks very clean and user friendly. Nice work. As noted on Telegram, the form will be distributed on 1/1.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 401K roll over to Bitcoin IRA investment- anyone doing this? on: December 26, 2017, 02:47:55 PM
There are a few companies that allow you to roll over a 401k plan into a "bitcoin" IRA. Anyone doing that? Or, researching? Curious about the experience.

This is a global forum, and what you're talking about is only available in the US...this might slow down or limit the number of responses you get.

I've not looked into this investment account much, but as you research it you should consider the following:

(1) How reputable is the company that's selling you the account? They're likely not some major investment bank. Can they go out of business easily? Are they protected by investment fraud insurance in the US?

(2) Is this fund actually buying Bitcoin or do they augment their assets with Treasuries or Cash as a way to soften the volatility of Bitcoin? It's not bad if their fund blends assets, it's just something to be aware of

(3) What are the fees they're going to charge you? Per transaction? Annual fees? Maintenance fees? Etc.

(4) What's the process if you want to sell the fund and transfer your assets to another qualified account? There shouldn't be any lock in periods. You should be able to move your account to another investment bank at any time you like

(5) Do they allow you to invest in cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin? E.g., Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple

Let us know what you find out...come back here and share your knowledge with us! Good luck!

Hello-
Thank you for the responses. Here's what I've discovered.
1) There seems to be 1-3 reputable companies out there. One is backed by 1 million protection.
2) They do purchase crypto coins.
3) HUGE cost. 15% upfront and unsure what the yearly custodial fees are. Shot them a note to find out but 15% is pretty steep IMO.
4) Not very clear on their site or pamphlet but still researching. Also, looking into rolling over only a % of the 401K, vs. the whole thing. "Eggs in one basket" theory.
5) Bitcoin IRA, the one I'm looking at, lets you invest in any of these- BTC, ETH, BCH, XRP and LTC
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / DOGE thoughts. Good entry point? on: December 25, 2017, 04:24:01 PM
Seems like there is some history with DOGE and can't tell if it's now a good entry point, or a trap.  Any thoughts on DOGE? Just hit a penny.

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What makes you think that ICO is good? on: December 24, 2017, 06:55:46 PM
I always check their website  and team as well. How about you guys? Do you go by suggestion or do you do research on the ICO?
I base it on a few factors....must have a whitepaper with detailed information about their mission, the website needs to be more professional looking, they aren't making growth claims (ie...buy for .05, will go to .75), and people have mentioned them in a social feed. This worked for me when getting into the Dragonchain (DRGN) ICO, for example.  Also, looking at Bob's Repair, which, from my perspective only, looks interesting on their upcoming ICO.  Good luck out there and never invest more than you are comfortable losing.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Disappointed! on: December 24, 2017, 03:23:46 PM
It's pretty straight forward. You control your money, so only you make the decision to buy into something. How you get to the "purchase" is up to your method of research, hunch or sometimes a pump. But, you need to always be ready to lose your investment as this market is very rocky. Good luck out there!
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee just tweeted about Reddcoin (RDD) right? on: December 24, 2017, 03:18:55 PM
It's pretty simple. You have the choice to make a purchase or sit on the sidelines...it's your money and always do your research. Potential pumps are what they are and only you control your $$$.
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the average amount you invest? on: December 22, 2017, 02:26:24 PM
Hi all,
Was just wondering how much you guys invest per week? I've been trading for the last 2 weeks and have invested in this venture £2.5k.
Although half of that was on a new computer soley for trading on.
I intend to spend no more than £100 a week unless it's a great opportunity to buy.
It would be great to hear your commitments
Thanks for you time
Lex

As noted, the market is volatile, so only put in what you are willing to lose.  Also, a good idea to determine what your goal is...day trading? Long term? etc... good luck out there.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recover bitcoins from hard disk. on: December 19, 2017, 09:40:31 PM
Does anyone know how to fix broken hard drives that make a clicking sound if so sent me a message. If i can recover the bitcoins you will be REWARDED.

And i have been on youtube . But everyone tries the same things.

Maybe somebody here has had the same problem.

Best Regards
B

What have you tried? Does the HDD not boot up at all? Does it still spin? Is the HDD still inside the computer? What type of computer? Are you able to remove the HDD and put it in an external "toaster" to pull off the data? There are recovery services as well, so depending on what you have on there (ie...number of coins) then, it might be worth using that service to restore whatever data they can get.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: etherscan.io is error? on: December 19, 2017, 12:13:48 AM

Question. If I sent some ETH, do you think that is affected? I saw a TX page but when I go to double check, get the same "down" error. Thoughts?
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Binance + Forks = "gifting" but that keeps your coins on an exchange- thoughts on: December 18, 2017, 09:44:38 PM
That is great but I wouldn't advocate keeping them on an exchange for getting new coins and the reason is because you never know if the exchange will be up the next day or not. I don't know about you but I would rather my bitcoin be safe than it be on exchange and have it compromised for a few hundred bucks. Although my friend uses Binance and apparently he got some Super Bitcoin and something BCX the other day too so not all bad.
That's my dilemma. By keeping the coins in my ledger, I'm not getting the drops from Binance due to no BTC (or little amount in there). To date, I have 0.000001's of BTG, SBTC and BCX since I have a trace amount of BTC left in there etc...and not sure if the risk is worth the possible reward.
