41  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bit-Syndicate - A Bitcoin Lottery Syndicate [Restarted!!!!!] on: September 07, 2011, 05:30:15 PM
Turns out the syndicate did not win the monthly BitLotto Draw  Cry

However! the syndicates for next weeks BitLotto Jr and next months BitLotto Main draws are now up!
You can start buying tickets by using the addresses on the website Smiley
42  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bit-Syndicate - A Bitcoin Lottery Syndicate [++ chance to win a Bitcoin Lottery] on: September 07, 2011, 01:41:15 AM
The big day's tomorrow! Got any news for us, Noviz?

Not yet sadly. Still waiting for the results. The BitLotto Jr syndicate will be restarted tomorrow, and obviously the next main draw syndicate... it seemed when the organiser of BitLotto had to leave for a while people stopped playing Jr.

Fingers crossed! Stupidly I never bought a ticket myself, so if the syndicate wins I'll be kicking myself lol
43  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoinduit.com - Banner AD Design Contest! on: September 07, 2011, 01:39:26 AM
I'd to like to put my website forward for your advertising plan. (bit cheeky I know but you don't get anywhere without asking Tongue)

Basically I run www.bitcoinsreview.com a review website for bitcoin merchants/services/pools etc. I also run Bit-Syndicate, a bitcoin lottery syndicate. I'm also looking to expand into things. Just to note an advertisers banners would be shown across my whole network.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hey Noviz, how would I go about setting up btclottery.com on the syndicate?  Just revamped my whole site.  I've had a link to you for a while, but noone has ever rated my site Sad
Anyway, yeah, btclottery is now a weekly Pick-3 lottery, very similar to the Pick-3's in most US states, and if you think it would be a good medium for your syndicate, I'm game if you have any questions...

Hey. The syndicate is currently taking a break... I wanted to wait till the 7th (today actually) to restart it again as the BitLotto guy would be back.
I'll have a look into starting one for your site Smiley
I'm going to be pretty much completely remaking BitcoinsReview with a muchhhhh better system for reviewing... so hopefully you'll get a few then Smiley I really believe in the site and want to push it forward so it gets used more.

Go for it. If you could rotate all the banners in this thread, and report results here, then I think we have a winning idea.

Would you be willing to do a test run across your network, and I'll keep an eye for 2-3 days on the traffic it generates? We can both compare notes here, and go from there. How's that sound?

Regards,
Jonathan

I'll have a look into it in the morning Smiley I did set up some advertising space on my site but never got around to actually get advertisers in Tongue Hopefully it'll bring some visitors in. I'm actually currently revamping the site so its much less complicated to review websites and so the whole site will run smoother. After that I'll be pushing to get a good userbase for it as I still think the bitcoin community needs a site like that... not only for merchant feedback but also to uncover good sites and scams.

45  Economy / Gambling / Got a new idea but want to ask a few questions first... (Carom3D) on: September 06, 2011, 10:13:39 PM
Basically I have this new idea and I want to ask a few questions to see if anyone would be interested in taking part as I don't want to bother setting everything up if no one wants to join in.

My idea is, each week (or maybe fortnight), have a Pool competition on Carom3D (free to download [very popular pool game, played at WCG etc etc] - http://carom3d.gameis.com/). The competition would last for just one night (and would take around 1-2 hours). It would be double elimination (so everyone gets atleast two games), or group stage then elimination ala world cup depending on the amount of participants.

Entry to the competition would cost a TBC amount... maybe around 0.10 BTC. The winner would win a large majority of the pot, second place would win a smaller percentage (atleast the entry fee) and then third place would win free entry to the next competition. And for everyone else I'd hope that you would have had a fun time playing some pool and getting to know fellow Bitcoin users.

I was thinking of initially running a 9-ball game then perhaps expanding to 8-ball or vice versa depending on what people would want to play... perhaps 9-ball one week, 8-ball the next.

I don't think anyone has tried this before and believe it would be fun for everyone. Just fyi the game is really easy to pick up so it isn't difficult to get playing.

So does anyone have any thoughts on this? Good or bad I don't mind, that's why I'm asking you guys Smiley I don't want to set everything up incase everyone thinks its a crap idea lol.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SolidCoin founder admits to deceptive intent in 'Bitcoin Crash' article. on: September 04, 2011, 11:09:07 PM
RealSolid really needs to go on a Public Relations course at his local college... I'm sure he had many good ideas to improve cryptocurrency however the way he talks to his clients and associates is appaling. He could have made a real difference, however instead he tried to make his fork popular by spreading rumours... if he thought his fork was so good then miners, developers and traders alike would have migrated to it... actions speak much louder than slanderous words imo.

I really am not surprised with the hatred he has brought upon himself within the Bitcoin/Cryptocurrency community. If he didn't sit in his ivory tower and talk to everyone like a piece of crap then perhaps SolidCoin would be alive and well. I'm glad he failed purely because of his awful attitude... I can't stand big-heads and definitely can't stand people who talk down to others.

And if he reads this: For your next project I really recommend you either get a better attitude or hire someone to do your PR.

Got another one for you (I suppose it extends the arrogant one):

He's probably in some form of student shared housing. Quite commonly they'll have a fixed monthly rate. I had that back when I was in university. The free electricity is averaged out over a large number of rooms. Someone is paying but most likely it's future students who will have a higher rent.

This situation isn't scalable and time limited. When I was in school we had three student towers with 1440 rooms. Fixed $210/month rent (back in the 80s!). No metering of utilities.

Essentially this ^£70 a week with all bills included. I suppose if you were to be really pedantic then I don't actually get 'free' electricity as such as its included in that fee... however that gets paid with my student loan and £70 per week is tiny compared to what most students have to pay... my friend pays around £200 per week without any bills included...
Although I don't have a huge operation, only a few GH/s, so I don't know if there would be an investigation if I were to use a shitload of power lol. On top of this my department generally uses top of the range ATI cards so I let one mine when I'm working.
The joys of being a student Tongue Although as BkkCoins said it is time-limited... so I won't have this in a years time when I graduate. Although I never saw my mining as a long-term pursuit so that doesn't bother me.

If you need help doing it I'm in.

Ok thanks Smiley Will try improving a few bits myself and see if I can do the rest as I guess thats the only way to learn Grin
51  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitcoinsReview.com - Review Bitcoin Merchants on: September 02, 2011, 01:40:59 PM
I'm really sorry I never replied to you. I have to manually moderate all of the submissions to the site, basically to make sure no one is posting stupid reviews. On top of this I'm the only one who works on the site so it can sometimes take a little while to moderate everything.

Hi thanks for the answer, I really apreciate it.

May I suggest something ?

Is admin of each sites could be able to reply to comment left by users? I think it should be a nice implementation.

To be honest I haven't done much website coding before but I'll have a look into it.
Frankly I think I'm going to totally revamp the site eventually as wordpress has its limitations.
52  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin vs solidcoin on: September 01, 2011, 11:47:16 PM
The tragedy of these forks is that they're trying to bleed off a few hundred or thousand devotees from a small segment of the tiniest corner of the most marginalized and obscure offshoot of the almost fractally invisible group of geeks and libertarians... and they don't even seem to realize it. Bitcoin just barely has enough people to sustain what bare and sparse economic activity we have. There's not enough to go around for all these forks. I guess the long-term strategy is to eventually convert the entire bitcoin userbase to their own version.

That's fine with me. May the best cryptocurrency win. Problem is, I don't see how solidcoin can attract anyone who is actually worth having. Most people who contribute something significant are already invested in bitcoin (and I mean emotionally, not financially here). Speculators will be attracted to solidcoin but since they don't actually do anything, nobody cares.

Reading those hyperbolic posts the solidcoin folks make on their website really turns me off, though. Have a tiny bit of self-respect, will you? If your clone is good enough it's good enough, nobody is listening to what you have to say about bitcoin, believe me.

Well I dropped my full 60 GH/s farm on SC since it started. Solid Coin consistently stays between 1.1 to 2.4 times more profitable to mine than BTC.

You're acting like 95% of the people that are in Bitcoin aren't here for pure unadulterated profit! I have no problem admitting it. I could careless about Bitcoin or any digital currency.

Ixcoin, I0coin, Shitcoin, Schmitcoin or Bitcoin has a ZERO future period unless instant transfer becomes a reality.

I'm just thankfull that Magical Tux has created the "Magic The Gathering of Dumbasses" that will part with USD for it. LOL!!!!

I love your honesty, it was quite refreshing Smiley

Tobacco is a drug, albeit a legal one.  Grin

Lol I was going to say that Tongue
Pardon my ignorance BitBacco but don't you need a license to legally sell tobacco?
54  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Misrepresentation on UK Channel 4 news on: September 01, 2011, 11:37:32 PM
lol I saw that and wondered if anyone would comment about it on here.

I love how they suggested that TOR was some evil, hard to acquire tool so you could access Silk Road or whatever. But heck I guess the article will get some more people interested in Bitcoins regardless of what their intentions are. Atleast they acknowledged (sort of) the fact that regular currency can be used to purchase drugs, child porn and other illegal stuff; many other reports seem to totally dismiss this fact.

I also wish they would have showed the good things that you can use Bitcoins for as well... although I suppose an unbiased article is a little too much to ask of the main stream media  Roll Eyes But yeah... I think they are about 4 months too late on the whole Deepweb/Bitcoin thing..... I guess it must have been a slow news day.

Plus that 'woman' in charge of combatting e-crime (something along those lines) made me chuckle... she couldn't have looked more like a man...
55  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bit-Syndicate - A Bitcoin Lottery Syndicate [++ chance to win a Bitcoin Lottery] on: September 01, 2011, 02:28:41 PM
I just got 7 tix in the standard BitLotto draw... I hope we win Jr. today Smiley

Thanks for joining in on the main draw:)

As you may have seen there was a request by the BitLotto organiser for people to work out the results while he is gone. I have just finished working it out... and as far as I can tell it is correct. The good news is, from my calculations, the syndicate has won BitLotto Jr for the second time in a row! Don't get too excited because I may be wrong but I'm 99% sure I'm not.

The prize pool was, afaik, 2.90 BTC. We had 27 tickets pooled. Therefore each ticket has a winning value of 0.1074.

If in fact we have won, please be patient when waiting for your winnings as we will have to wait till the BitLotto organiser comes back at the end of the month.

I'll be opening the next BitLotto Jr syndicate shortly.

I think it turns out I was wrong... I didn't add a 0 where I should have done. Sorry but we did NOT win the 17th August draw. :\
56  Economy / Gambling / Re: Make 0.3 BTC for calculating the BitLotto Jr draw while I'm away! on: September 01, 2011, 02:15:53 PM
Thanks Noviz!

I'll check them out and come back.

No problem. I think they are correct lol Tongue
Also, its nice to see you are back Smiley

Oh you were so close! 4 would go in as 04. Sorry. The last one you had the right block but pasted the wrong one into the formula. So one was all good! PM me your address and I'll send you the BTC plus a little tip for your effort!!

Ah pants nevermind Tongue I wonder how I pasted the wrong block into the formula lol :s I guess thats a lesson learnt in re-checking my workings lol Grin

Its a shame to see not many people entered.... you probably should have posted this on the Mining forum I suppose...
He did it was in the hardware section, the mining section, this section, the selling goods section. He literally posted this every where and bumped it constantly. I don't understand why people didn't buy tickets.

Oh fair enough, I only saw it here. I guess people didn't want to risk 1 coin or didn't trust the lottery :s

There is one week left to join the BitLotto main draw syndicate! We currently have around 1/10 chance of winning Smiley
