I've sold 25% of my coins, I'm sure I'll regret it, but this just feels impossible.

(Also Bitcoins were approaching something like 75% of my net worth... not bad because I invested something like 5% of my net worth in them originally)

Am I stupid =/

I did too - I consider it insurance. You know how many times i wished I walked away from the table when I was gambling? Well, I learned that lesson well. I still have a healthy amount, so I'm just now waiting to see if I want to buy back in lower.
190  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 18, 2013, 05:22:16 PM
so does this mean I can't buy on coinbase anymore? I have to buy at future price of nov 22nd? wtf?

yeah, but they give you the option to cancel the order in case you aren't pleased with the price on the 22nd....um I guess that's good? I can't really figure out what's happening. Maybe they all just need a long nap.
191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 18, 2013, 05:13:14 PM
unbelievable - I think coinbase is taking a break from selling for a few days....

"Due to higher than normal buy volumes, we are unable to provide exact price quotes right now.

Instead of pausing buys entirely, we decided to give people the option to purchase bitcoin at the market price in a few days. Once your USD funds arrive, we will exchange them to bitcoin at the market price at approximately Friday Nov 22, 2013 at 12:10PM EST.

Note that you can cancel your order at any time up until your bitcoin arrive from the transfer history page. "

maybe they are expecting a bubble pop as well - any ideas?

they seem to be making up the rules as they go along. I need to get my money out of there...

192  Economy / Speculation / Re: BREAKING: U.S. government to greenlight Bitcoin. Price will go up on: November 18, 2013, 04:52:16 AM
wouldn't surprise me if a number of senators bought a truck load of coins today.....

195  Economy / Speculation / Re: Big crash on: November 17, 2013, 02:16:45 PM
as far as I can tell, everyone is willing to buy more if the price dips heavily. That's the big difference from April. In the April crash, most investors wanted out as soon as it started tanking. With a future (possible) crash, everyone will want in. That's a huge difference in attitude and support.

Again and again during the run up, we've seen smaller and smaller dips, being bought up almost immediately. The first surprise in support was the news of Silk Road - the massive sell off and then the recovery in a few days. Since then any dips have been bought back quickly. I have a feeling we'll see less crashes and more corrections - and even those will dip less over time, creating more stability for the currency which will be good for all.

The wildcard is China - they haven't gone through an April crash. How will they react if everyone starts selling over there? I wonder if there are as many Chinese wanting to "buy in after a dip"?
196  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fellow speculators, do you ever feel numbed to price increases? on: November 17, 2013, 03:17:20 AM
of course, it's the new normal. 1000 and 10,000 will be the same.

As a young musician, $1000 for a guitar was SO much money, I couldn't conceive of it. Now $1000 is very cheap to me compared to some of the vintage instruments I own.

It will be the same with bitcoin for all of us - enjoy the ride!
197  Economy / Speculation / Re: What effect will Monday's US Congressional hearing have on price? on: November 17, 2013, 12:24:50 AM
Idunno. I'm pretty freakin' excited just to see a two-hour Bitcoin discussion on basic cable (... even if it is CSPAN).  Smiley

This is probably the most extensive coverage of Bitcoin ever on a television station most US citizens have access to.

agreed - no matter what gets said, they are simply confirming the reality that this has arrived and has to be dealt with. That can't be anything but good in the long term.

Luckily, the US usually encourages competition in markets, so Bitcoin might be the darling of both Democrats (competing with western union, large banks, etc.) as well as Republicans (monetary freedom, entrepreneurial businesses etc.).

and I'm sure both parties are interested in bitcoin donations!

This could be framed as a win for everyone. I certainly hope that is the case.

199  Economy / Speculation / Re: What effect will Monday's US Congressional hearing have on price? on: November 16, 2013, 01:43:37 PM
If the general message from the news media is bitcoin = drugs and terrorism, I would think you will see a sell off. But it won't be that bad because there are many who want to buy more coins (like me).
