What are some marketplaces that accept monero? Supposedly you are working with i2p. There are sites accepting XMR now? I dont know how to use i2p yet so havent checked.

There are very few sites accepting XMR. Other than exchanges https://www.cryptocoins-dice.com/ is the only one I know about.

i2p is not integrated yet.

Now physical Moneros and Bitcoins can be also purchased for XMR at:
https://cryptonic.net/product/order/2/

There are definitely some positive vibes in the air. Thanks a lot for the update!

We have few more physical Monero coins (brass, silver plated) available for free while our site is not officially launched. Please PM me if you want to get one.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bstp1domvay61wv/new%20coin.mp4?dl=0

They look nice. Most more contrast colors then the ones i see here. But maybe that is because the dark Grey is on coin Black or i see wrong?

They just look black on this video. In reality it's silver plating reflecting the night. The grey should be little lighter on actual coins as well.

The colors are more natural at this photo:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mu2u8fgssyl4wq4/Monero.jpg?dl=0

In order for the coin owner to spend the coin's XMR, must your website must be operational?

No. Site is only obligatory for binding the unique id of the coin with any public Monero address you have access to. Later when view key functionality is available from Monero developers you will be able to check the balance of a coin binded to that address as well. You will be also capable to transfer coins to other owners at our site.

To spend the coin balance (actually from an address you are in control of) you will need a Monero wallet and a private key of your address. For safety reasons we are not going to keep and even ask info about private keys. So coins are actually independent from the site after you bind them to an address. You should keep the info about your keys yourself.

I got this free physical Monero coin. Looks good and is quite big r= 2cm.
I see from coin this is your website https://cryptonic.net/. Will register and check it.

That's great that you got it. The site is not finished yet but very soon will be ready for public beta.
I will provide activation codes little later.

Excellent idea!

Have you considered developing in Unity? (http://unity3d.com/). It's one of the most popular multi-platform game engines now. It's usable for 2D as well and one code will work everywhere including browsers, desktop, facebook and mobile devices. Other popular choice around professionals now is LibGDX (http://libgdx.badlogicgames.com/features.html)

But anyway you will need some server programming as well. Such games are always front-end (any engine like these or just html5) + back-end (server side, where all DBs are kept).

3 weeks sounds too much optimistic for the first real alpha version even with minimal functionality. Such projects always take more time than we think in the beginning.

It's very important for the developers to plan all future architecture in advance before actual programming. Otherwise you will build a house without a basement and after that will need to repair and repair it each time when adding new functionality.

Other popular conception is to build a simple prototype. Three weeks look real for it. Test it for playability and after that plan and build a new concrete basement for the real game. If there are enough people in a team both tasks can go simultaneously.

I wish you success with such a great project and will be happy to beta test.

100 votes for #2.

The features of the new forum.monero.cc look very useful for keeping internal discussions well organized and more relevant without additional efforts for eliminating interventions of trolls.

The new forum are in deep need of organic ignition as well.

So moving will serve both goals while keeping the ability to broadcast important announcements and results on BCT.

First little batch of physical Monero coins is ready. It's brass, silver plated. Pure silver coins should come later. Each coin has unique ID that can be binded at our site to Monero address of your choice. Site is not finished yet, we are currently testing and polishing it. But in general it's working as alpha version.

Here is the short video of the Coins:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bstp1domvay61wv/new%20coin.mp4?dl=0

If you are interested to get a Coin and did not contacted me before, please PM.

All of that may be true, however...can we get some official word from the core team on the latest developments?
BCX is implying his TW attack is already running and having an affect on the block chain. Can we disprove that with 100% certainty?

Maybe timewarp attack will need weeks to show effects? Or decades?

He was playing for time all from the beginning.
Exploits announced? One. Delivered? Zero.
Then "hey let's wait and see in 72 hours"
Two days later "takes 22 days to built up and THEN it is inevitable"
Just wait and see, it is 100% CERTAIN that after those 22 days ... he comes up with another two weeks.

Tell that to the market price.  Undecided

But before that don't forget to look at price of BTC. Also time warped?
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 26, 2014, 10:30:57 AM
Can someone put everything that happened very briefly for a non computer nerd in laymans term? Is BCN attack legit? what is going to happen? what the hell is this.

Executive summary sir:

There was a threat.

To the extent that the threat was credible, it was mitigated in the code.
During the mitigation, most exchanges stopped transacting with the monero block chain, but kept exchanging openly.
There were some brief DDoS attacks and minor alerts, but no substantial problems

Business as usual resumed shortly after the mitigation work was completed, with some nice enhancements to the code that prevent this sort of threat from reoccurring.

Lessons learned discussions are still ongoing but at minimum, the enhancements are sufficiently innovative that they may be adopted by all other coins to prevent this type of threat in a distributed fashion.  This is a win for crypto currency in general.

Perfect executive summary.

The fact that the price is still .0034xxx (actually, now .00337xx) makes me wonder if the market is still cautious about the threat.

Seems as though you see it exactly the way I do, which makes me believe I'm seeing it right and the market is just a bit behind or slightly less informed.  I'm sitting here wondering if there is something I am missing, because this price does not make a lot of sense to me.

Guess that means I better buy some more. Edit: I just posted in another thread that by my reckoning, XMR is on a 15-20% discount right now at .00337773.  Just placed a couple of orders, not much below where we are, that I hope will fill.

I was expecting it go back to 0036 today, I'm glad I was wrong, it seems people still waiting for a cheaper entry point.

Once again price correlates with BTC falling. So it's not so obvious if there was actually so much influence of all the latest events and discussions. Everything is OK. It's just bear market. It will change in proper time.

So, in any case, to break the ice, I think exhausting crowdfunding via Kickstarter and Anon should be a priority and DEFINITELY precede any further discussion of more controversial funding methods.

Totally agree.

Like you, I believe that stability is important to value

Got your point about seeking future stability.

However there is another aspect in danger here: fairness between holders across time. Any change would split monero holders forever into the before-change holders and the after-change newcomers. The latters criticizing the formers for the advantage they got over them. Serious drawback for adoption to be carried forever.

Totally agree. It's the real risk for future adoption and possible criticism. But this risk is comparable with the one regarding the lack of funds in the hands of developers for solid progress in development.

But there are definitely other ways to solve it. Not only the abrupt change of rules during the crisis.

One more remark on this topic:

Big props to you, smooth, for your reactions on the previous pages.

As far as I know you've stated before that you are actually (more or less) against adjusting emission speed.

So there is no misunderstanding, my personal opinion is that it would be better to slow down emission, or couple a longer-term slowdown with some short-term acceleration in the form of "post-mine" funding, such that the two offset each other to some extent.

But that is very different from attempting to impose this view on others. If am convinced that the stakeholders are overwhelmingly opposed, in that case I would be opposed to changing it regardless of my own opinion. In fact I would actively oppose others trying to impose such a change despite my own view on the underlying question. I don't think anyone attempting to impose anything is very likely however.

Thank you for your comments as to style of discussion and perspective.

Thank you for staying rock solid in the epicenter of typhoon.

Physical Monero coins (alpha version) are coming much closer. Hope you will like them. My friends who works on it with me would like to give away some coins absolutely for free soon. We will be happy to сompliment Monero supporters and (developers later with pure silver coins). Just PM me if you are interested. First batch is just quality silver plated brass coins. If everything is OK and everybody are happy with it the pure silver coins will be available for sale as well. There is also a plan to donate the developers from each sold Monero coin (some percentage of coin price).
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 20, 2014, 06:24:55 AM
Regarding a kickstarter:

1- Use kickstarter.com
2- offer a feature
3- reward USD funders with xmr

rinse, repeat.

It is simple; it is low cost; it is likely to work with some non-vanishing probability; it is a market-based mechanism; it is entirely voluntary; it offers positive incentives for everyone.

Kickstarter has requirements for applying and takes its share. Sure you have all the infrastructure to manage your crowd-funding but it can take time, you can be rejected and if you get 95% of the money you must give it all back. Just saying. Worth a try thought.

What's about counterparty.co? It's quite credible and proved it's ability for successful crowdfunding with swarm and storj already. It's much more easy to use than kickstarter and can even promise some bonuses for investors on core level as well.

Might be good for someone to compare XMR price development over the two days to other altcoins. Might well be that the effect of FUD is not even existent...

Quick scan: Over that period the range of LTC was 2.5%,  XMR 13.6%, BBR 27.4%, XCN 34.5%, and all are within 10% of the range closest to their lows over the period.

What I see is that PoW non-app coins (pure currencies) generally, whether CN or BTC based, have declined in degree best indicated by their market cap.

My intuition:  There is no FUD effect.  It is pure imagination.  The price is down because bitcoin.

My conjecture is that hot money is flowing out of bitcoin into US stocks (BABA) and GBP bets.  This is ADHD money we're talking about.  I give it a week or so, before btc bottoms.  Unless there is an exogenous jump it would be reasonable to expect continuing XMR\BTC decay.  Yet I am unwilling to sell for a turn-around, simply because the scale and likelihood of a positive shock is too large.  The market cap is too small.  One buyer can double the price forever in 20 seconds or less.  I can't risk that.

Totally agree. all that falling may be caused much more by alibaba ipo than fud effect...
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 19, 2014, 08:29:57 AM
Price of XMR going down, it makes me cold.  The leaves of autumn turn dreary and my spirit sinks.  The winter of my discontent comes the morrow.

Until this whole "exploit" fiasco is sorted out, XMR (and likely other CN coins) are headed towards ground zero.

Price may be falling as well due to Bitcoin falling.
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 13, 2014, 07:47:03 PM
EDIT: It's a psychology thing. They either wanted to gain more BTC (rpietila admitted this and I did so too) and/or hedge on possible BTC failure. Are you kidding me? This is expressing so little faith in Monero, if an alt has any chance to succeed it needs fanatics who aim at No1.

Please link where I have said my aim is to gain more BTC? If I read my mind correctly, it has not been my aim since summer-13.

Hedge is something I have talked about. USDXMR in my understanding would immediately gain a lot if something serious happened to Bitcoin, making it a perfect hedge.

I also believe Monero has the chance of taking over Bitcoin.

The more I've thought about it, the more this last point seems possible.
Bitcoin seems to really be getting away from it's roots and is seemingly poised as a Visa/MasterCard competitor, rather than a currency competitor. Also, the fact that it's not truly anonymous makes it's utility as "e-cash" limited.

I would be absolutely shocked if the NSA and other 3-letter agencies didn't already have automated tools that make tracing bitcoin transactions back to individuals a trivial task. The IRS and other tax agencies around the globe won't be too far behind.

Anyway the success of bitcoin is in best interests of Monero. And despite all the strangeness of it's stagnation the overall economy is still expands...
