The difficulty is in separating this nightmare from my body, trying not to get sick or pass out, and not taking it too hard. Very frustrating moment. Ugh.

I suppose I should have taken the out with bitcoinbuilder in the last moments.

So many people are in similar shoes to my situation, I can hope it turns out well, but have to remember what's important in life. I encourage others to put this in perspective compared with war or rape or torture victims, those without limbs, those terminally ill, etc, and find some gratitude for life. It really is only money. *sigh*

Hi Guys,

Excuse me for not catching up, but did the Strategy Draft from scribd get leaked here, yet (I'm on Foundation, it's there)?

And, holy shit (I 'have' coins on gox). :-(

bump
?

I'm happy to post it, but don't want to repost something so FUDy if it's already in the conversation

It was posted and discussed at length. I think its fake.. the redacted page of what looks to be a balance sheet can be edited when downloaded so you can see the actual numbers.

all in all kudos to all the other exchanges for being on the ball and keeping their customers calm and up to date

FUCK YOU GOX FOR PUTTING A MESSAGE YOU NEEDED TO PUT UP 12hrs ago UP NOW LOL

Thanks for the update-- I was just too shocked to read through everything.

Just a short question:

What trading software do you use, if you use any?

OK, ignoring that I 'use' gox to trade, when we aren't in a post-exponential shit-storm, I keep a subscription to Sierra Chart and run it on a virtual PC to watch the chart and do my TA magicky stuff. The problem with the exchanges is that they essentially 'break' when you can really make good money, forcing your orders to the sidelines (they're non-reactive to market and limit order on volume spikes) and so it almost doesn't matter anyway. I'm prolly not the right one to ask.
windjc, seleme, aminorex, adambtsgtsrtdtdtsdts... who else trades a ton?

Hope that helps.

The most interesting notion that Gox may be being purchased by outsiders makes a TON of sense!!

Imagine you're Mark-- totally sick of running your company, dudes are getting in your way while you're carrying your scrumptious coffee-beverage to work (idiots), and no one really understands your pure awesomeness... you have maybe 10,000 BTC (idk!?!?) and someone offers you millions!! to walk away from gox == yummy coffee-beverages without idiots.

What would you do?

Win-Win-Win

It actually adds up nicely.

Nice. And maybe you can insert a nice little backdoor in the code before you sell it, too.

Now, THAT would be typical bitcoin-drama.

The biggest problem is it makes a ton of sense -- since when does Bitcoin operate under such parameters? Wink

Well, THAT's true. You got me there.

Honestly, I suspect Mark's ability to ignore the mounting nastiness of this situation is waning, no matter how intelligent he may be-- no man is an island, and the amount of pressure, no matter his intention, in this environment must be quite high. There's even crazy German dudes threatening him, publicly. At some point, everyone breaks (loses) and takes an 'out'.

"If this situation will be handled down in a serious way, nobody will kill you."

"handled down"? Doesn't appear to be a native English speaker. Something like "All your Gox are belong to us."

Try imagining it with Franz wearing a leather smock, speaking with a thick German accent-- sounds fine to me. Tongue

Creating transactions out of immature coins is a separate problem from transaction malleability. Gox is guilty of handling both situations poorly.

The fact that they haven't fixed creating transactions out of immature coins doesn't necessarily mean they also haven't fixed internal accounting problems stemming from transaction malleability.

I certainly don't expect them to go above and beyond and fix multiple problems at once!

My understanding is that because of the immature coins problem, mr. K. had setup automatic reissue. Basically when a Gox-initiated transaction would not appear in the blockchain for a certain time, some cron-job-or-whatever would credit the user back with the coins. I speculate that the job was, of course, looking for transactions by txid.

Now think of these two scenarios:
1. transaction fails because of incorrect padding; Gox credits the amount back to user; user fixes the transaction manually and rebroadcasts it; transaction succeeds
2. transaction fails because of immature coins; Gox credits the amount back to user; user rebroadcasts the transaction; transaction succeeds

Both scenarios have, by default, nothing to do with malleability. But still they will cause Gox' accounting to go bananas and some very happy users, who could then go malicious and try to find a way to iterate the process and empty Gox' wallets.

Malleability also makes it worse because even when automatic reissue is turned off, once the malicious user has learned that Gox support people are trained only to look for transactions by txid, he can rebroadcast the transaction with a different txid and still complain to Gox support that he did not receive his coins.

EuroTrash, this description is what I understood as well, although I believe I also saw a paste-bin conversation or perhaps just a comment that suggested gox went further and automated the process of crediting the accounts for which the transactions had failed. Obviously, I may be mistaken.

...

I know I read the page... I was understating the deathyness of the situaiton
Empowering, I realize you got it (and were understating), I was agreeing with you and highlighting the intensity of the page for others, as in "holy shit, did you guys read what this guy is actually writing!?!?".

Franz comes off as an off-kilter nut job, who's fairly self-important. *sigh*

It's not that I don't share some frustration, but, the messiah complex isn't helping, either.

How about some live quotes from Bitcoinbuilder?

Last trade 1:2

Yeah, 1:2 is shite. Wow.

I'm very jealous of people able to take advantage of the arb opportunity right now...

You have coins at gox, no? You could do so. See above 'Edit' of my reply. :-)

EDIT: However, if they're taking deposits, that's a win. 1/2 of 580 is 290, so selling 10 gox coins(street = $ 1500) and getting 5 real coins (street = almost 3k), deposit back to gox for 20 gox coins. Arb opportunity.

I'm thinking this is pretty close to capitulation... close-ish.

No this shit can go on for months.

2014. The year of Gox.

No, I just meant the crap feeling in my gut. Ha! It's pretty lame that I bought in 'cheap' in the 500's. :-(
