You get two cables at 9mart. So you'd be saving 7 dollars per cable. They have 16x extenders for the same price. Everything ships free. I find it hard to believe that I need to pay $50 for 4 extender cables. What do you mean by service? I think anyone can plug in extender cables...

I think the reference design looks better. Also the red stripe is far better looking than the silly stickers the oems stick on.

1) Go in afterburner and click settings and then there's a tab that says enable custom fan control or something like that. It allows you to define a custom fan curve. Basically force the fan to a certain speed for a certain temperature. 2) You should stop all miners when you play games. Or at least on your main card if they aren't crossfired. You can't play games on just your CPU. Well you can in your case actually (the Sandy Bridge has a built in graphics card), but you need a Z68 motherboard I think...

it will be awhile before we are actually able to buy them. yes there is no way AMD couldnt have noticed. there cards are selling out everywhere all over the world.
Yeah, unfortunately this is only an announcement. who knows what the mining scene will look like in q3 or whenever these come out. AMD may have noticed but I doubt they're going to do anything. The 5xxx series are selling out because it's nearly 2 years old and they stopped making those chips long ago.

If it's not hardware accelerated then maybe everything is overloading the CPU?

No, it's not bandwidth intensive at all. Just make sure it's reliable though. Wouldn't want it losing connection in the middle of the night would we now

I think your PSU is fine for now. I'm not sure about 5 6950's...they pull about 200watts each + mobo and other crap. Funny you say 5970, I had a 6950 for gaming and then I picked up a cheap 5970 off CG. Apparently cards of different series don't play nice. (ie you can only get other 69xx cards) I kept getting BSODs and driver issues in the end I just put in a spare rig and called it a day. If anyone has a solution I'm all ears. Donations would be awesome . I'll try to help you (and anyone else) as much as I can.

Is that long beep a POST code? You should look up what that means.

I do have a motherboard with onboard too (Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H) and I can't use two cards. My second PCIe slot does not work with video cards. Either it activates the one in the first PCIe slot, or the onboard if its missing.
I don't know about your specific mainboard, but I needed to buy a new one.
Have you tried dummy plugs? I've heard many people use the onboard video to drive the monitor and use the other slots to mine. It's supposed to speed up mining as doesn't have to draw the screen.

Anyways what the OP was asking:
1) You should be able to get at least 1GH/s. Probably 1.2 because I have a 6950 (unlocked and OC'ed to 940 core) doing 410. 2) I tried Ubuntu for mining but the overclocking capabilities weren't as good. MSI afterburner is pretty awesome. If you don't plan on OC or can figure out how to do it on linux then that is probably the way to go. 3) You probably won't need those extender cables unless you plan on having the cards hanging out of your case. You can fit 4 on that mobo without extenders but if you extend the top slot you can uncover that pcie 1x slot giving you 5 cards on that mobo.

Yes, you are correct on the GPU limits. This seems like a popular motherboard for 4 dual slot cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274You don't really need this specific one, as long as it has PCIe 1x slots you can use an extender though you'll have to hack together some case or mounting solution. The one above just has it so that you can plug in all 4 cards and still fit inside a case (as long as the case has 8 expansion slots)

You shouldn't be overclocking the ram. Try underclocking the RAM. Mines running at 940 core, 700Mhz ram. I had to raise the voltage to 1.2v though.

Post hash rates from each of your efforts. That is much more meaningful than the amount you generated
CPU mining is not worth your time.
Differs from computer to computer. Maybe between 1.8 Mhas/sec to 4Mhash/sec Sounds like you are CPU mining. That's fairly dead, unfortunately. What graphics card do you have? Nvidia GeForce MCX 4000 (GNU/Linux) , Matrox MGA G200e (GNU/Linux) and Nvidia GeForce 9400M GT (MAC) None of those cards you have are suitable for mining. Check https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison for the right cards to get.

I get 410 MH at 940 core and 1.2volts. It's a reference model by MSI though all reference models are built at the same factory.

Are you talking about the 6950? If it is, I would get the 2GB (reference) so you can unlock shaders. If not, and the card is purely for mining (e.g. no gaming) I would save the cash and get the 1GB. More details will help.
I suppose something like unlocking shaders might be worth the extra $10-15 it costs to go with a 2 GB card, if it would help resale value (in case this whole mining thing doesn't work out). But when used purely for mining I guess the answer is that it makes no difference, eh? I was thinking either 6990's (best performance) or 6950's (much better performance per dollar). Thoughts on this? Well unlocking shaders gives you more cores (1536 vs 1408) more cores = more hashes I have a MSI 6950 unlocked shader and overclocked to 960 and get's about 410 MH/s. Now only if I could get it to run with my 5970 instead of sitting on my desk... Be sure to get a reference card if you want to unlock.
