Time for the people to take control of their own money and bitcoin offers that.
242  Economy / Speculation / Re: Silk road bust: bearish or bullish? on: October 16, 2013, 09:18:28 PM
Excellent for the bitcoin economy.  Got the word out to the mainstream media in a big way.  Also revealed the great possibilities for those willing to work hard and push the boundaries.

Stopping bitcoin is akin to stopping file sharing.  The first adopters may take some hits, but eventually the hoards overwhelm the gate keepers in increasingly massive numbers too many to stop.

I would but live in a very rural area - it will take awhile to catch on here

Still in its infancy, if Bitcoin takes hold with the mainstream so that 1000x as many people as now are using it...who knows how high it can go.
245  Economy / Economics / Re: Invest in Bitcoin, Gold or Silver? on: October 16, 2013, 01:49:23 PM
Gold and Silver have been stores of wealth for thousands of years.  Nothing has changed.

Good to have all three.  Start with gold and silver first.  Those are sure things.  But put at least some of your nest egg into Bitcoin just in case it goes mainstream and rockets upward in value.

Since governments rule by force and threat of force (if'n you don't do as we say, we are gonna come lookin' for ya), I have a low opinion of any government.  I can rule myself, thank you.

Wait till governments take Bitcoin seriously and start regulate it. This will be a great opportunity for new altcoins designed specially to fit or get around those regulations.

When government attempts to regulate bitcoin, that will be the time to buy.  The attempt will do exactly the opposite of what they want.

When .gov bans or over regulates something, its value skyrockets on the open Free market.  Look at Alcohol during prohibition in the USA.  Drugs right now.  That is the beauty of TRUE Freedom - it cannot be quashed permanently.

253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many percent of internet users and overall people use bitcoin ? on: October 14, 2013, 02:55:17 PM
That seems a good ballpark figure....1% have heard about it, maybe 1 in 100 of those may have tried using bitcoin or at least downloaded a client.  Of course that is just guesswork on my part.

What this means is there is still a long way to go toward mainstream adoption

Maybe its about people taking control of their own money, their own destiny.

The problem with cheering the closing down of things you yourself do not believe in is that eventually they may very well choose to close down something you believe in.  Majority rule is a slippery slope ie:

Two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner.

Consider that Silk Road is like a hydra - cut off one head and ten will spring up to replace it.  The human spirit is indomitable in the long run.

At this point bitcoin is indeed much like the Internet: full of drugs, porn, gambling.  By the same reasoning then, the Internet should be forcefully shut down :-)
259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Figured Out Who Satoshi Is on: October 13, 2013, 12:58:04 PM
Here is a stab at it:

Taken from the point of view it is time to get control of money out of the hands of banksters, corrupt governments, and other financial terrorists:

Sat - a Sanskrit adjective meaning "the ideal; pure and true essence (nature)" of an entity "the self-existent or Universal Spirit.

Oshi - the game of Oshi. Oshi would teach the emperor and his court that influence was power but should be used cautiously.

Nakam -  former Partisans and other Jews who survived the Holocaust.  They traveled wearing British uniforms and arrested many Nazis and secretly tried them in an instant field trial. They called themselves "The Avengers".

Oto - important

Note: I simply broke the name apart and did some wikipedia searches in about ten minutes for the fun of it :-)

Trying to decode the name reminds me of Forrest Fenn's famous treasure poem
260  Economy / Economics / Re: Why bitcoin will appreciate forever on: October 12, 2013, 09:35:28 PM
I'm thinking that eventually bitcoin will stand on its own.  That is, you don't so much trade bitcoin for dollars and then dollars for bitcoin.  Rather you earn bitcoin through your job or business and then spend them for the stuff you need and want - the people on the receiving end then spend the bitcoins and round and round it goes, no dollars needed.

As the bitcoin economy grows, each bitcoin will buy an increasing amount of stuff - its value is increasing because of its limited nature.  But you never run out because bitcoins can be divided into tens of thousands of units.  Perhaps one day 1/1000th of a bitcoin could purchase what one full bitcoin does today.
