No fat finger. I know from who Via have been stolen. This Via-enthousiast is out of crypto for a while to heal his wounds. He is often on this forum, but I am not sure he would appreciate if I would mention his avatar-name. Maybe he will tell himself when/if he will join again. It is up to you to speculate further or not. Better to work on Via. Maybe join Via on Slack?
i know the background, i'm there but its been so quiet here so a little controversial speculation

|
|
looks like these coins were stolen from a member of viacoin community How do you know that and do you know how they were stolen? link? time for speculation there hasn't been fake dumping in while now, could that last big "dump" have been a fat finger?

i think VvroAXY6XNBqLvrSjSMm5ExqqgqLonsdif is bittrex, it shows "Guesstimated Wallet: 5187 addresses" and one of those is definitely one i use to deposit to bittrex
Ah yes, that would explain a lot well one of bittrex addresses, this is shown as "Main Address: VxtMX7omYJmrv6QYCmjgBHfsC9LeUzzEZT" so there are over 7.5m coins in total on bittrex :p so VvroAXY6XNBqLvrSjSMm5ExqqgqLonsdif is a person or group of people (probably same people who threw a tantrum a while ago about some issue and then "hearned it" )

Check out this transaction. Richlist addresses 2. VdoY9gr6Jo7356PECP8ncfZptqqGBw9XjD - 7,370.01780552 4. VsEpgfua49fZsEwCawwdgchfhxrHtd4xtj - 50,000.0 8. VvfJcUjpjmQedL5mtAnChsrnPGPW82xwUg - 2,102.3742752 Just paid into 12. Vat2wisFnRJCiyF9CjtDofRedGYdKME56W + 59,493.47715994 Addresses 2, 4 and 8 are definitely controlled by the same person with a combined total of 2775024.5 which is more than the number 1 address on the rich list. So at most, two people control 25% of all Viacoin in existence. i think VvroAXY6XNBqLvrSjSMm5ExqqgqLonsdif is bittrex, it shows "Guesstimated Wallet: 5187 addresses" and one of those is definitely one i use to deposit to bittrex interesting thing is it shows only those vias i deposited from outside bittrex, and doesnt show those bought directly on bittrex

Does anyone know what happened with Cryptsy? I assume there are a lot of various altcoins locked up there.
Most wallets are locked. Message is: 'More wallets opened for withdrawal 1/27/2016' I have 145 LTC locked at Cryptsy and therefore have still some hope that one day I will have them back. If any hack has taken place on an exchange it prob would be on Cryptsy. On Viaplanet slack one of the members has affirmed that his wallet was hacked. For the moment he is investigating what could have happened and is not (yes) available for comments and feedback. craptsy was hacked nearly two years ago and these fuckers kept it a secret, didnt report it to authorities and kept the site running, i'm sure thats not legal on top of that until the very last minute they were pressuring people to upgrade their accounts to verified tier - which means getting their personal information - and get this, looks like all this information is now in hackers hands (supposedly, wouldnt be surprised if it was an inside job) so its possible that was the attack vector - if that member had same password on craptsy and bittrex, they simply just logged in and dumped his holdings and then withdrew bitcoins

Someone was dumping ~350k Via on Bittrex. So: first collecting a bag and then dumping. What a strategy. Maybe some Xt lovers?
year just started but i think we already have a winner for dumbest trade of the year edit: looks like these coins were stolen from a member of viacoin community (so now it makes more sense, hacked account and immediate dump of all holdings)

How do you guys feel about VIA being used as a guinea pig for segwit?
It worked out for CLTV, and testing segwit in a live production alt seems like a good idea.
Plus Peter The Todd already knows VIA's codebase!
that could work, along with development into viacoin as a bitcoin sidechain

|

How does that improve the Clearinghouse website, still with broken links, and what about updates to viacoin.org maintenance schedules blah blah?
thats a question only dev can answer if you cant contribute anything meaningful, if you are dissatisfied you can always "hearn" it
|
|
|
That might be the case!
Drak seems to have lost interest in this project and instead is focusing on his Core Dev work.
improvements to bitcoin are also improvements to viacoin and vice versa

@drak,
Two questions: - When will be the next maintainance release? - There is a guy named "Soliury" who is reaching out to you on twitter, github, etc. He likes to help. Can you give him a reply?
Hardfork coming. Check drak post on December 26 i thought hardfork already smoothly passed by without a glitch few days ago (already over 10 000 new blocks since then) new subsidy halving algorithm brings: -change in total coins supply: 23 m (down from initial 92 m, which means 90% of coins already mined and distributed, and the rest will be mined over the next 10 or so years) -subsidy halving block reward for next 6 months: 2.5 coins (down from 5 coins in previous range)

if my calculations are correct, thats in a couple of days (24.1) Yes, that seems about right. thanks for all the information you provided i just plugged these into spreadsheet to see how it would progress :p for example by 21.1.2027 subsidy halving should drop to 119 sats - thats 0.7832 via for entire subsidy period - 182.5 days

Ah, I'm using bittrex. I saw on the blog that btc and ltc were taken, didn't know via withdrawals were frozen there. Stopped using cryptsy years ago, user interface was not to my liking pretty much every alt on craptsy got their wallet either emptied/stolen or is locked/frozen (until craptsy is declared bankrupt/liquidated and assets sold off which will take years, look how long its taking to process gox fiasco)
|
|
|
At least no Viacoin taken on Cryptsy are you sure? last time i checked the order books there were maybe even 1 million coins if not more trapped on craptsy anyone knows craptsy wallet addresses?

looks like someone is ready to dump i think you are right. someone warned me about HYPER before that dumped too. i was fortunate to get out at a good price. This coin is in the accumulation zone right now. Whoever plucked that sell at 830 is going to be happy. Bookmark this post. and these coins aren't going back to market until via is back to top alts :p i might get some more before halving happens in 2-3 weeks
