Hey folks, I just picked up a couple of wireless usb adapters to use with my SP20s (it's getting too hot to keep them in the living areas close to ethernet ports).  I bought a pair of Edimax EW-7811Un adapters, as these were confirmed to work on the SPtech technical blog.  Well, the adapters work fine with one SP20, but not the other.  The adapters light up (blue led) when they are powered.  But I don't even seem to be getting power to the adapter (no blue led) on this SP20, much less get networks to show in the GUI.  Is the SP20's usb port dead?  Or is there some way to test/enable the port?

i really wanted one of these, but at this price its best to just hold onto btc.. specially since its going up.

Same here.  I guess I should thank Bitmain for making my decision easier...?

Looks like the "0% luck for a day" has finally come to a close at 27+ hours. That was BRUTAL!!!!
I don't think it's luck. There's a pretty consistent pattern there where we have bad luck for that block if the pool hashrate is (10 + n*0.23-n)PH/s, where n is any positive integer. The block at 10.23PH/s was 20.5 hours, and the one at 10.45PH/s was over a full day. Lord knows what would happen if we actually hit 10.67PH/s, it could be a couple day long block.

I hope slush looks into this and can find the error in his code. These long blocks need to stop.
I get the feeling people took your comment seriously Cheesy

I know MrTeal's been around on the block for a while.  I trusted it was "tongue-in-cheek".  Doesn't change the fact that I'm a sucker for talking about formulas and numbers  Smiley

But I honestly am quite curious about the recent jump in pool hashrate.  10% in roughly a day?  That's a pretty good jump for Slush, which has been bouncing between 9.5 and 10.5 PH for weeks now.  Yet according to blockchain's distribution chart, Slush has dropped to only 2% of the network hashrate.  Just looking at those two numbers, you would think total net hashrate (and difficulty) were shooting up again, but we appear to be due for another semi-marginal difficulty increase.  Just my observations.

I know others had postulated that the pool was has having trouble "handling" over 10 PH, but you're suggesting there could be an error related to or caused by the formula you provided?  Seems unlikely to me, as there is nothing obviously significant about the formula or the resulting numbers AND the fact that the pool hashrate is just an estimate of the total scoring hashrate (representing a rather wide range of numbers in terms of even GH (10^9 hashes per second) and rounded to the nearest 10^10).  I guess my point would be the pool's scoring hashrate is too arbitrary of a number to likely be responsible for a glitch in the pool, if that makes sense.

My guess is just coincidence and occasional long blocks due to bad luck.  Recent days have done a lot to disprove the original hypothesis of the pool being unable to handle hashrates above 10 PH, as the last couple of days have seen several blocks found over 10 PH AND 100% luck.  Here's hoping the same will continue to happen.

My question is, where did 1 entire petahash suddenly appear from...?  ~10.45 to 11.45!

Even slightly is a stretch, those things are vicious 4000 rpm fans [1.6A], I've got 6 of them on a HashCoins Ares and combined they're the loudest fans I've had on a mainstream miner.

Yeah, I don't expect them to be quiet, per se.  I just know several people on the forums have said these measure in around 50 db versus the 70+ that has been measured by some with the stock S5 fan.  I'll do a side-by-side comparison when they come in and update.  Even if they don't improve things, still good fans to have on hand and @ $20/pair, hard to turn down.

For anyone looking to put slightly quieter fans (that still get the job done) on their S5, here's a dang good deal on a pair of Delta AFB-1212SHE.  This seems to be a popular choice for reducing dBs while still keeping temps under the 60C target.

Two fans for 20 bucks shipped.  Not sure what's up with the 4-pin connecter, something looks off about it.  I just placed an order and will update when they come in.  Hope this helps someone.

8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: January 29, 2015, 04:42:55 PM
still waiting on minersource.net for a reply about my order or replacement, refund or compensation.  Sad

The minersource address as seen on their webstore when searched for on google maps shows vacant looking and unmarked rent a unit/storage and looks like it may have been that way for a long time.  no branding on outside like the neighbouring companies there.

I'm still waiting for answers from them too.  Thing is, they have had my order for months now (hosting my X3) but they were supposed to send it to me a couple weeks ago.  I think they'll just get to it when they feel like it.  I know they're not holding on to them for personal gain, since they are no longer worth turning on.

I know this is kind of rheotorical, but I do try to leave accurate feedback and modify it if things change.
I left the following negative feedback for blackarrow awhile ago.
Quote
Have failed to deliver to most of their customers, delete any critical posts from a self-moderated thread, and refuse to deal with their issues.

Blackarrrow recently left me negative feedback stating the following.
Quote
blackarrow -12: -3 / +0(0)   2015-01-10   15.00000000      Accusations are false. We have honored our contract to all our customers.

Would you the customers say blackarrow has honored their contracts with you?

Note even close.  You are fully justified in leaving the feedback you did.
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN‘s Liquid Cooled Miner C1: It is not only cool, but it is cool on: October 17, 2014, 02:52:19 PM
One of the biggest concerns I have, and one nobody is mentioning, is the mixing of metals.  These appear to be cooled with aluminum waterblocks, but people who already have decent watercooling gear (the majority of the people who will buy this) likely have rads with copper cores.  I have always been told to NEVER mix the two in a loop without the use of special corrosion inhibitors and/or specialized coolants.  Otherwise, you're basically creating a battery in your loop with different electric potentials... ionization... some chemistry BS that can damage your blocks/rads.  I assume that's why Bitmain says to use specialized coolant.  Which isn't a huge deal.  You can get a droplet bottle of  corrosion inhibitor that will last longer than the C1's profitability for pretty cheap at most WCing retailers.

Bobsag, since you're familiar with WCing, what are your thoughts here?  Is this something that people need to be aware of or has the "mixing metals" thing become just a dated myth now?
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: October 06, 2014, 03:18:23 AM
I assumed server PSU, they didn't say that, but since they specifically said HP, I assumed they meant some sort of HP Server PSU and not a standard ATX.  So that may be my fault there.  It may very well be an ATX adapter.  I'll ask for clarification.

I've suggested various things that most people voice here.  Refunds, Compensation, Alternatives, etc.  If I get any news I'll let you know.

This actually makes a good bit of sense.  Minersource sells HP, Dell, Delta etc Server PSUs.  Their HP and Delta models are both 1000W+ PSUs (don't remember exactly what wattages).  The issue here is that ATX PSUs capable of supplying the ~1200 watts (on the 12V rail alone, so think 1500W ATX PSU) each X3 unit requires could cost upwards of 300 USD.  The ~1200W HP server PSU on the other hand is sub-100 USD.  And can be sourced in bulk easier than consumer ATX PSUs.  That's my guess anyway.  The only issue I see here is the fact that high wattage server PSUs typically require 208-240V to run at full capacity.  A lot of US customers (like myself) only have easy access to 110-120V circuits.

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/Information#crnt&panel1-1

It's very easy.  Just provide as much information as you can and try to be factual and to the point.  Use accurate dates, amounts, addresses etc.  According to the Coindesk article, BFL was investigated after only 300 complaints to the FTC.  I'm sure it would take a lot less at this point to get action.

"Defendants either never delivered these machines or delivered them so late that they became obsolete."

Sounds like BA/Minersource, right?

It does indeed sound like BA/Minersource.  This is proof that their bullshit pre-order "Terms and Conditions" won't fly with the FTC, nor the courts.  Maybe if they were a couple of months late, they would get away with it.  But just like BFL, they are grossly late, the products don't meet specifications, they misled costumers about development capabilities and timelines, and (hold on to your ass, cause even BFL wasn't this bad) they sold potentially dangerous electronics in the US.

Groups like the FTC and SEC have a hawk's eye on anything related to cryptocurrency right now, especially anything that even smells like a scam.  This on top of the usual watchful eye they have out for consumer protection issues.

I realize BA is somewhat "safe" as they are not a U.S. based company.  But Minersource... that's another story.  It doesn't matter if you're "just a reseller."  That argument won't last long with the FTC.  If I were you, Minersource (Bobsag, Thomas) I would start fighting BA on behalf of your costumers instead of fighting with your costumers.  Get our money back.  Or pay us out of pocket... it might be cheaper for you in the end.
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: September 08, 2014, 05:43:08 PM
Bobsag3, you have sold hardware with defective and potentially hazardous components, as confirmed by BA.  It doesn't matter who made the power supply; MINERSOURCE sold these products in the United States.  So again I'll ask you to address this in the public forum or make an official statement from/on the Minersource website.

* What is your plan of action regarding the present situation?
* How does the present situation not constitute the conditions for a refund as stated in correspondence with your support staff?

I would be happy to.  Here you go

Seriously, and this is from a professional company? Lawyers and consumer organizations will love this!

DebitMe, I suggest you start a new thread with almost the exact title and add [unmoderated] and we'll use that one instead this one.

Agreed.  Whether or not DebitMe is a current customer, former customer or just an outside observer is irrelevant.  This kind of extreme unprofessionalism is the kind of behavior that could well be the nail in the coffin for BA when this debacle lands in court somewhere.

Edit:  I've made record of this, in addition to the various recent posts by black arrow, including the posts accusing the customers of rushing them which resulted in defective products.  I really want to avoid having to seek a legal solution to this, but it's almost nice to know that if I do pursue legal action, BA will have built half my case for me.
16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: September 05, 2014, 03:42:27 PM
The evidence is mounting that the X-3 is an electrical liability.  Any reputable manufacturer would have labeled the current product version a failure and moved on to a new revision or scrubbed the project, while issuing refunds/recalls to their customers.  I don't care if the problem is the back plane, the hashboards, the PSU (which is proprietary to the X-3) or some 20 cent plastic connector.  The unit is clearly not performing within its stated specifications or even within SAFE specifications.

Minersource has been very quiet about this issue.  In fact, they've been quiet about BA orders for almost a month now.  I hope they are looking into this issue behind the scenes and will issue a statement on the matter soon.  I also hope MS will take put their relationship with their customers ahead of their relationship with Black Arrow.

So again, I'll ask; Bobsag3, what does Minersource have to say about this ordeal?  And how does this not constitute terms for refunds?
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: September 04, 2014, 05:26:09 PM
Bobsag, Thomas, why have we not heard a statement from Minersource about this issue?  You have sold potentially dangerous products to customers in the U.S. and abroad.  I would think you would have something to say about this mess....

I'm preparing all necessary documents/sources to file complaints with relevant parties and agencies against Black Arrow and possibly its resellers.  I'm not pulling the trigger just yet, as I would prefer an outcome that is "mutually satisfactory" for all parties involved.  But months of delays followed by unsafe, untested products will not be tolerated by myself, and I can guaran-damn-tee the state and federal agencies charged with consumer protection won't stand for it either.

Also looking into sending "tips" in to a few well-established crypto-news sites, including Coindesk, regarding the current incidents with the X-3.  Those sites love doing stories about mining hardware setting stuff on fire.  And to be honest, the mining community and any future hardware owners should be made aware of the "quality" they get with some manufacturers.... and the resellers selling their products.

Edit:  Just going to leave this here....

My wallet still hasn't connected.  It's been almost an hour.  Any ideas?

backup your wallet.dat, Delete everything from your appdata/roaming/syscoin folder.

Run the new wallet again and just wait.  That might help at least.

Did all of that before I first started the update.  Got rid of everything except my wallet.dat.  I'll give it some time before I start fiddling...
