Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion

"4 year cycle" is just a synonym for claiming that it's impossible for there to be a mining bubble and the artificial scarcity event known as the halving will always make the price go up and make miners profitable, and no miners will ever have to shut off. If you claim the price will automatically go up every halving, then that would automatically make Bitcoin a Ponzi scam. So which one is it, kids? Is Bitcoin a Ponzi scam or not?
It doesn't automatically go up. It probably will based on historically increasing demand and the relationship between price and stock-to-flow ratio. There is only a guarantee that new supply will dry up as Bitcoin moves towards zero inflation via the halvings. There can never be any guarantee about demand though. We're all just speculating about that.

At this point in time, the alternative bear market scenario may be paused for consideration whilst price action remains above the 23-OCT-2019 low. Will the "alternative" bear scenario become the "preferred" scenario once the 23-OCT low is breached? but a truncated fifth wave failure would reverse the entire impulsive wave and also, violently, in this case, that would mean that the price would return to 0.
Do you think BTC can go to 0?
What do you mean by "reverse the entire impulsive wave?" A truncated fifth would imply weakness, but it wouldn't mean the following correction would erase 100% of previous gains.

I am beginning to notice that he is a contrarian indicator not because he is a bad trader, but because he be buying when he is bearish and he sells when he is bullish. Forum cave trolls laugh at him, however, he might already be laughing at us since 2017.
Good point. He might be playing the market like a fiddle. He's an equities guy. He knows how to ride the long term bull, so it would be an odd time for him to turn bearish. This is where long term investors should start dip buying if anything.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Half of the airport’s workstations infected with a crypto mining software

They are probably mining XMR There's a LOT of places with crypto mining softwares installed without permission, like Schools, big companies, datacenters, research facilities etc
This is not good for our crypto world, it's illegal
Illegal and also inevitable in the context of CPU mining. Botnets were mining Bitcoin in the early days too! The only reason they don't now is because of the progression of specialized/ASIC mining. If Monero didn't implement regular hard forks to stave off ASIC mining, this phenomenon would be mitigated. I guess that's the price we pay for ASIC resistance!

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency in the next financial crisis

Therefore, in such a doomsday situation you have to come up with a situation in which you can trade with people in order to survive. There are two solutions I can come up with, either using precious metals such as Gold & Silver or using Cryptocurrency. Considering that fiat currency is useless, Cryptocurrency might raise in value so that it can be useful as a means of trade as long as the Internet still exists which will most likely be the case.
Even if un-backed fiat currencies are replaced, government issued currencies aren't going away. I think we'll go back to some variant of the gold standard, where legal tender is pegged to hard commodity value. Decades from now, I could even see government money being backed by BTC.

Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-11-10] CFTC says Bitcoin AND ETH are Commodity
|
on: October 11, 2019, 09:05:47 PM
|
So is this good news or bad news for Eth to be categorized as a commodity and not as a security? It's obviously good news. The rules applying to securities are much stiffer, which is why several CFTC-regulated markets have launched since 2017 (LedgerX, CME, CBOE, Bakkt) but the SEC has rubber stamped nothing. ETH was ICO - doesn't work as promised and goes PoS - Vitalik controlled, is even more what a security defines ( Shares = right to min and earn dividends )
It doesn't seem clear cut that an ICO must be a security offering. (Most of them obviously are but that's neither here nor there) As for POS, it's a (flawed) form of decentralized consensus administered at the protocol level. Why would that make it a security?

The officially sanctioned, SEC-approved Bitcoin futures market says otherwise. And Tom Lee knows this.
So why the bullshit, Tom?
Easy game. Whale-cumulators placing their bids for as low as they can, and FUD all they can to cause a panic for the plebs. Don't listen, and HODL. Come to think of it, Tom was screaming "buy" all through 2018 before the crash to $3000. Maybe he was selling us his bags at the time. You can never trust these Wall Street types. So yeah, he's probably FUD'ing the market to buy in.

What constitutes a class member? Seeing as this is based on market manipulation claims, are we all eligible to be class members if we're Bitcoin traders? I'm happy to take a cut of $1.4 trillion. Something tells me Bitfinex and Tether don't have that kind of money though.

Exacly what is the Reason bull run have not started yet?
There is allready good things happening Bakkt, Binance, bitmex large volumes and so...
Still that all its not enough?
Good news can't prop up bear markets. So maybe we're in a bear market. Ever consider that? Check out this post and scroll down to "Bear Scenario (Alternative)." It's possible the long term bull market is over and we're headed to much lower prices now.

I do not believe what they say that Satoshi did not know about this, i'm sure that was discussed back then, i certainly knew and i am no cryptographer or cypherpunk tho i did read their writings from time to time. I'm sure Satoshi was aware that computing power might improve over time and that cryptographic standards might become vulnerable. That possibility just wasn't worth burdening Bitcoin with something so unwieldy as Lamport signatures, which are much worse for scaling. He probably figured, "cross that bridge when we come to it."

|
on: October 02, 2019, 10:56:50 PM

What do you think of this analysis? Everything until now (even the recent re-accumulation phase is just as planned). Can the push reach the new highs like 600k? The date says 25. May probably with libra effect included in the growth. An extrapolation of the 2017 cycle puts it closer to $300K, but it's possible based on the magnitude of the 2013 cycle. We certainly can't rule it out. The honey badger don't care about the limits of our imagination!

|
on: September 30, 2019, 11:10:57 PM

I'm however of believe that the technicals need to improve first. Bitcoin is being judged by the smart money based on what the charts show, and not so much its fundamental roadmap.
Another thing I'm still keeping in mind is that we might be due for a brutal shakeout. It actually surprised me with how soft the market has been in the last couple of months. Calmth before the storm maybe?
Bitcoin is prone towards high volume V-bottoms. We haven't seen it yet this time, but when it happens you'll know. The chart may look ugly now, and we might need to tag the 62% fib or maybe last year's triangle levels in the $6000s first, but don't underestimate the honey badger. It's like a rocket once the bottom is in. People keep making comparisons to the triangle in 2018, but to me this correction is much more like summer 2017 when we dipped from $3000 to $1800.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will There Really Be An Altcoin Season or Just a plot to Keep us in the Loop
|
on: September 29, 2019, 11:20:27 PM

I expect a ton of folks sold their alts at a terrible loss, and as crypto things tend to go, that means altseason is just around the corner. I'm waiting for what I sold to skyrocket, while my holdings stagnate -- and the crypto gods can laugh in glee. That's usually how it goes! I've basically forgotten about my altcoin bags at this point. No point selling all the way down here. For the small amount of money it would net to sell them now, I'd rather view them as lottery tickets. But the fact that so many junkcoins were delisted probably will be one major reason why I don't think the next altseason will result in a zillion coins all increasing in value, even complete junk. New listings might be a bit sparser than 2017. My overall assumption is that if it's listed on a decent exchange, it will pump.

While our altcoins keep depreciating in value daily as we keep vigil for altseason, bitcoin dominance has crossed 70% and keeps growing in strength. Will there really be an altseason.
There will definitely be another altcoin season. It may not happen until a) you've sold all your alts or b) the alts you are holding have all been delisted. Markets are cruel like that. The ETHBTC daily chart still looks strong, holding up really well against the dump in BTC. Keeping hope alive....

I never bothered with OpenBazaar because it required downloading and installing a client. Too much hassle, plus I didn't really trust the software and I never heard great things anyway.
Is there a browser-based version yet?
