I currently have a dual 6990 set up. I am thinking about get another rig with 3*6990 so I can do solo mining. The question I have is how can I make two rigs(may be more in the future) to mine together, solo?

Thanks a lot!

Just set them all up as solo miners?

There's two real ways to do it.  Set up bitcoin with a separate wallet on each box and then have your mining client pointing to the localhost and then just transfer the money between the wallets as you find things.  Or set up bitcoin in 'server' mode on one box and then point all your miners at that machines IP address.

You need to launch bitcoin.exe with the -server switch if you want to see the bitcoin gui or you can launch bitcoind.exe (in the daemon folder) if you just want it running as a daemon in the background.

There's some settings you need to configure in your bitcoin.conf file as well to allow machines to connect to it.

Check out the second post in this thread for specifics.

Then just set up your miners to 'solo' mine but point to the servers IP with the ID/Password you added in the bitcoin.conf.  If you have any trouble connecting, make sure you opened up the port of any firewalls on the machine you are using as a server.

One caveat.  If you do point all your solo boxes at one box and it goes down or the bitcoin client crashes none of your miners will be able to get work and do anything until you get it back up.

Thanks a lot for the detailed information. I also want to know will I get same results if I just set each rig mining solo separately? Because in this way my BTC will be safer(and separate).

Your odds of finding a block are the same running independently or all off the same server. You are not working towards a goal your are making many many attempts that each has a very small chance of success.

By the time you get the second rig up, the difficulty will have doubled again and you will likely not find a block in a weeks time even with another rig. Save yourself time and energy and just buy btc. You will profit more with less headache at the end. I just don't get how people are still considering buying rigs when investing has proven much more profitable since around the rise above $1 this year. Do some reading outside the mining section and come back to this thought again and you will see it for yourself. Maybe learn to spell a bit in English while at it.

Yeah, it's the same chance of finding a block either way.  A simplistic way to think about it is as if each miner is flipping a coin hoping for a heads result.  There's no difference in the chance of getting a heads result whether you flip them one at a time or all of them at once, it's still 50/50 per coin...
