You don't need to delete the blocks directory.  But you do need to delete the chainstate directory if it is corrupted.  LevelDB (which is used for chainstate) causes most of the disk activity and is the most likely source of any corruption, especially if you kill the node without going through the normal shutdown.
2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How much traffic does bitcoin-node generate monthly? on: April 09, 2018, 01:15:45 PM

It depends if you run the full node with open port 8333 to allow incoming connections or not.

My full node allows incoming connections and these are my values:

The download volume is quite low, about 0.5 GB - 1 GB per day
The upload volume is high compared to the download volume. It is at about 17 GB per day.

I don't know if this depends on the peers you are connected to or your internet speed, but that 17 GB upload volume per day was quite stable over the last months.

My internet connection is 100 Mbit down and 10 Mbit upload with no volume limit.

Thank you!

Is it possible to somehow limit the speed of the node on Ubuntu-server?

And is there a dependence on uPNP?
No need for UPnP.  If you have a router/firewall, you will need to manually open port 8333 if you want to allow incoming connections.  You also might need to tell your node the external address to advertise if it can't determine it automatically (I use the 'externalip' statement to specify both the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for my node).
3  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How much traffic does bitcoin-node generate monthly? on: April 09, 2018, 01:08:44 PM
My node typically has around 95-98 connections.  The daily upload without historical blocks is around 5 GB.  If you also serve historical blocks, you need to add that to the upload since there always seems to be nodes that are downloading the blockchain.  When I set the historical block limit to 10 GB, my daily upload was 15-17 GB.

My node runs in a VPS with a very good internet connection, so that isn't a limiting factor.

Thx man, I have checked at https://ardorportal.org/accounts/account/ and I found my IGNIS balance is ok ...
yes I am using the newest version 2.0.14 ... It always showing a RED msg (Warning: You are connected to the TestNet! The testnet peer port is 26874.) .. what is this ??!
seems that I have a syncing problem like you said but problem i don't see any mark of syncing or blocks like normal wallets ..
do you have any idea how to solve this?
That is your problem.  The TestNet is for testing applications and is separate from the main Ardor network (the testnet and mainnet wallets are separate).  The easiest thing for you to do is re-install Ardor and do not check the TestNet box during installation.

I have sent ignis to ARDOR desktop wallet but it has not been reached ..
in the block explorer the transaction done but i don't see my ignis in my wallet
Has the transaction been bundled?
6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin source 'make install' take over 2 giga capacity? on: February 18, 2018, 12:53:45 PM
Use the 'strip' command to remove debug information from the executables (bitcoind, bitcoin-cli, etc).  This will significantly reduce the size of the executable files.

Hello,  I cannot send ardor with light client. Is it normal? How to fix it.
Light client has a problem.  Install a full node or use a node with an open API.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Suspicious: bitcoin core syncing way fast on: February 01, 2018, 02:15:43 PM
The latest core seems to be a lot more efficient.

However, I seem to be having some problems with Windows 10 after the latest upgrade. Sometimes it doesn't find any peers to use, and sometimes it works in burst mode with long gaps between activity. I've more or less decided to revive my old Linux wallet, and move everything into that.
Bring up the Windows Task Manager the next time it seems to be slow.  Each time this happens to me, Bitcoin Core is driving the DASD at 100%.  I suspect it is LevelDB compacting its database.
9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cascading Bitcoin Nodes on: January 30, 2018, 12:54:05 PM
Hi,

I want to setup a secure Wallet System with bitcoin core on linux.
First bitcoin node should be placed in the DMZ, behind the Front Firewall.
Second node should be placed in a secure net, without a direct internet connect.
The second node should sync with the first node.

I setup the 2 Nodes. First Node is syncing.
Second Node has configured:
connect=192.168.1.15
addnode=192.168.1.15

But it does not start loading blocks.

Any Ideas?

Kind regards, Morph

As achow101 noted, you need to wait for the first node to sync.  I run a two-node setup myself where the first node is an internet hub (around 95 connections at any given time) and does not have a wallet and the second node which has a wallet connects just to the first node.  I use a 'connect' statement so the second node connects to just the first node and specify 'listen=0' so the second node doesn't try to accept incoming connections.  But I don't do this for security but for convenience since the first node is on a VPS and the second node is on my desktop.  I compile Bitcoin Core from the source, so I'm not concerned about malware.  I suppose a node could be hacked by a malformed peer message but I don't consider it very likely.
10  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: using persistent volumes for certain files in data dir on: January 26, 2018, 12:16:48 PM
The problem is database locking.  Bitcoin Core assumes it has complete control of its data directory.  So sharing a directory with multiple instances of Bitcoin Core would quickly result in data corruption.  The best you can do is periodically checkpoint the database directory (be sure to first stop the node using the directory) and then use the checkpoint to initialize the database directory for a new instance of Bitcoin Core.  I have done this several times to reduce the time it takes to create a new instance on a different system.
11  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Still possible to bootstrap blockchain via Torrent? on: January 26, 2018, 12:09:48 PM
I have created multiple new nodes in the past 6 months.  Each time, the network was not the bottleneck.  It was CPU and disk (LevelDB in particular).  So even if you download the bootstrap with multiple parallel streams, your node will still need to validate each block and you will have the CPU and disk constraints.

Do you guys have any information when  withdraw of the Ardor will be available on the Poloniex? I already want to run the node, but on the Poloniex  still silence
By the way, did someone start it already? How is it going? Whether correctly I understand, for start of a node it is necessary to have 1 000 ardor ?
You don't need any ARDR to start a node.  You need at least 1000 ARDR to forge.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: | ARDOR | Scalable Blockchain-as-a-Service Platform | Proof of Stake on: January 24, 2018, 12:12:32 PM
Has anyone seen earnings from forging? Not sure if it's worth trying to stake my holdings.

Agreed, and even when you do forge a block it is often contains no transactions, so no rewards earned. So if you have 10,000 Ardor and forge you will earn about 1 Ardor a month WHEN it has more transactions than it does now.
If you look at the active forgers in the GUI (Settings -> Generators), you will notice that each has an effective balance greater than 100,000 ARDR (and often greater than 1,000,000).  I've been forging with 75,000 ARDR and have generated 2 blocks in 4 days.  I used to forge on Nxt and had similar results.

I'm on the 2.0.12 build but getting error: Blockchain download halted, no connection. Is anyone able to sync with the network?
My node is up and running with 90 peer connections.  From the Ardor GUI, select Settings -> Peers -> Add Peer.  Enter aws.scripterron.org and let it connect.  If the connection fails, post the last 100 lines of nxt.log so we can see what is happening on your node.

Note that aws.scripterron.org is already in the list of default nodes, so you would eventually try to connect to it anyways.  Going the Add Peer route just speeds up the connection attempt.

Jelurida is watching this thread  now.
For problems with Ardor and Nxt please visit our new support web site https://desk.zoho.eu/portal/jelurida/home
But before you open a ticket please read the disclaimer:

"We are NOT a support site for exchange related problems
Dear users, please understand that this is NOT a substitute support system for Bittrex, Poloniex or any other exchange you decided to use.
We know their support teams are slow to respond, however, if your problem is related to exchange withdrawal or deposit there is nothing we can do here to help you.
We recommend that you gather all relevant information including time of incident, account address, transaction id and submit as detailed and accurate as possible ticket for the relevant exchange, then wait for their response.
When you report your problem
Please understand that this site is handling hundreds of tickets per day, therefore please help us help you.
1. Report your issue in understandable English. If you don't know English try reporting in your language but it may delay processing.
2. Let us know if you refer to the NXT blockchain or Ardor blockchain or both. Both blockchains use the same account ID with different prefix NXT and Ardor
3. When you report account address, transaction id or any other long identifier string, always report it in plain text so that we can copy/paste it into our diagnostic tools.
4. Never report the passphrase of a non-empty account.
5. Do include screen captures or anything which can help us understand what you did.
6. If you are reporting software related problems, include the nxt.log from your workstation.
7. If you are reporting a wallet UI malfunction please include a copy of the Javascript console log."

Is this newbie account legit? Looks strange.

What happened to ARDOR? Why all exchanges stop deposit and withdraw?
Something wrong with the sync?
It says there is a fork on Poloniex wallet.

The post is accurate.  Jelurida is the company behind Nxt and Ardor.  Problem reporting is managed through desk.zoho.eu.

As far as I know, Bittrex and Poloniex are still not ready for ARDR/IGNIS trading.  Lots of discussion on the Ardor subreddit.

Poloniex was on a fork before they suspended trading.  If you are running an Ardor node, make sure you are on the 2.0.12 release.

hi, i have 4K ARDR. is it possible to lease my ARDR for forging, where to read? where to find pools? thanks

This, can someone shed some light please?
From the Ardor GUI, click on 'More info' in the account balance box.  Select the leasing tab.

Check https://nxtforum.org/leasing-pools/ for information on forging pools.

Can anyone help here? I cant get my wallet to log in.

I get "Cannot connect to /nxt-proxy No openAPI peers found"

Anyone else having this issue?

Install the full node client....The light version does not work well and you will always get the reported message.
You can also connect directly to a full node with an open API from your browser if you are having trouble with the light client.  Just go to http://node-address:27876/

19  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cash bcc and bitcoin btc use the same port number 8332 and 8333? on: December 26, 2017, 01:44:55 PM
Bitcoin-ABC uses the same ports and the same data directory as Bitcoin Core.  On Windows, it also uses the same registry entries.  This causes problems if you want to run both programs on the same system.  I run both on the same Ubuntu VPS by changing the port numbers and the data directory for Bitcoin-ABC (it is easiest to use shell scripts so you don't forget to override the data directory when entering commands manually)
20  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Do run a Bitcoin Core FULL NODE Now! on: November 02, 2017, 02:08:15 PM
It's not enough to run a full node in some raspberry pi that you will never use. You should use it to transact too, so it becomes an economic node and you are in charge of your money 100%, knowing what you are doing. The problem is keeping your bitcoins safe.. which is why im asking what is the best operating system to run a full node that is also used as a wallet:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2332405.msg23830612

please help.

Linux of course.
I think a good choice is Ubuntu (which is derived from Debian).  This is what I run on my VPS and it is very easy to maintain and upgrade (I just upgraded to 17.10).  My SPV desktop wallet (Windows 10) connects to just my VPS node, so I know that wallet transactions have been verified.

So would you consider your Windows 10 desktop wallet (I guess it's Electrum?)? If it's in Windows 10, you are still expose to Windows 10's viruses and so on, not to mention which is closed source, with in-built spying stuff etc. Why would you consider this safe even if it connects to a node that is on Linux? Also can you really trust Canonical Ltd? Richard Stallman called Ubuntu "spyware" at some point.
I wrote my own wallet and I trust it Smiley

I doubt that Ubuntu has 'spyware'.  And even if it does, there isn't much to spy on in my VPS ...
