You should absolutely NOT sell your bitcoin for dollars or any other fiat currency! Bitcoin is on the rise and will continue to do so for a while in my opinion. Hodl your bitcoins! In a few years they will be worth way more than they are today. Bitcoin is a stable store of value in the long term. I would maybe diversify a little bit and exchange some of them for Ethereum, Litecoin and Ripple and then hold those for a couple years.

The most likely reason is it will be the largest speculative bubble in history. The idea of having a currency issued by a private company is hardly new, anyone who thinks governments are bad, should check back in history to see how companies did with currency. There is a reason countries all have currency run by the government, companies wrecked their economies because it was profitable to do so. Otherwise bitcoin is a nice game for speculators, but of no real significance.

In today’s market I would lean over to Ethereum and I have some valid reason for it. Ethereum is not currency but it’s a token , although both bitcoin and Ethereum are based upon the block chain technology in my Point of view ethereum will one day outperform Bitcoin. It may not be in the near future but the concept/technology behind Ethereum will definitely catch upto Bitcoin.

f the Bitcoin bubble has a redeeming feature, it's that it has started some interesting conversations. One is about whether governments should get into the cryptocurrency business for themselves. The unsatisfying (though undoubtedly correct) answer: It depends. A cashless future is indeed on its way, and governments and central banks have no choice but to prepare for it. But a cashless future doesn't necessarily require government-backed digital currency. And while the technology underlying Bitcoin and other such cryptocurrencies will almost certainly have many useful applications, replacing physical cash is unlikely to be one of them.

As a technology, bitcoin is amazing. It doesnt really matter what the price of it is, I think. But it solves a big problem we had before, the double spend problem, and it is highly resilient to attacks. that alone has a lot of value. I think its much better than gold.

The amount of people in crypto now is so small compared to what it will be in the future, I have no doubt whatsoever that the prices will recover and excel over the coming months and years.

Is jewelry valuable because it's made of gold, or is gold valuable because you can use it to make jewelry? You could make a necklace from copper, but it wouldn't be as valuable as the gold necklace because gold is scarce.

Like Bitcoin, the biggest problem Ethereum hopes to solve this year is that of scalability. Ethereum is currently processing over 1.3 million transactions per day – three-times as many as Bitcoin – with transaction fees below $1. However, the Ethereum blockchain can also be used to create decentralised applications which run directly on the blockchain and can cause heavy congestion if they become popular. Recently, a surge of mainstream interest in the CryptoKitties decentralised application caused transaction fees and confirmation times on the Ethereum network to skyrocket – indicating the need for scaling improvements to accommodate popular applications. The development of Ethereum is influenced heavily by the Ethereum Foundation and updates are deployed within improvement proposals. Developers have proposed numerous solutions to the scaling problem, including sharding and second-layer solutions. A big change coming to Ethereum in 2018 is the change to a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) block validation method instead of the traditional Proof-of-Work (PoW) method favoured by other currencies such as Bitcoin. This will result in miners moving away from Ethereum and will require users to stake cryptocurrency to verify blocks instead, which could have a big impact on the value of the currency. However, Proof-of-Stake will also allow the widespread implementation of scaling solutions like sharding and Plasma, which could drastically speed up the network and promote mass adoption. These improvements are currently in development and some are set to launch this year, along with an increasing amount of decentralised applications and Ethereum-based tokens.
