461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Promotion on: July 13, 2011, 08:02:52 AM
And find something you can sell, a book, some CD, SOME dvd, a car.

You can also put out second hand things to sell on for example craigslist or similar site in your country. Selling things you own (secondhand) and put in, I would prefere to be paid in bitcoins and I´m willing to give a better
price if paid with those or I want to be paid in bitcoins only.

This could reach out to a lot of people.

If 300 ads are seen by 500 persons each thats 150.000 who will see this. Maybe talk about it and show it to a friend. And think, if he is willing to give a better price in bitcoins, those bitcoins must be good.

When you put something out for sale, post the link to it here.
462  Economy / Economics / Re: Why bitcoins are dropping, and will continue to do so on: July 12, 2011, 09:41:47 PM
Yeah but if you are going to use daily charts you need to use mtgox, because tradehill data only goes back like 30 days.  If you see the full picture on the long term chart, you see a parabolic run up from zero to 30, followed by a blowoff top, a triangle breakdown, and a pause with a downward drift we are in right now before the next leg which will probably be down to sub 10.

I think you could be right if I remember correctly what I read somewhere, that miners can sell for $3 and still make a profit. If that is right, it means the price will go down to just around $3

Another huge problem is early miners sitting at huge amounts of bitcoins which they can also sell for $3 and still make a profit.

In the long term 2-3 years when miners cannot sell to cheap and early adopters have sold, price will increase. But right now its slowly going to go down the coming months. Unless...Unless there are lots of new investors, which is not impossible considering it has just started to appear in china. However if the markets go down, it will attract less investors.

463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / No European money into mtgox this week, slow your sales. on: July 12, 2011, 09:18:29 PM
Mt. Gox: No SEPA (EUR) Deposits Until July 18th
http://www.bitcoinmoney.com/post/7525097623/mtgox-eur-banking-change

This could mean that there will be much less money on mtgox this and next week.
So if you dont want sell below market value, it could be wise to slow down on your sale one or two weeks.
When there is more more money to buy with.
But right now there is a risc that the price of bitcoins on MTGox will go down below market value?

467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How to help the bitcoin project and earn money while doing it on: July 10, 2011, 09:18:24 AM
Sell some secondhand thing, put it out on craigslist or similar in your country and sell it, but ask to be paid in bitcoins.

Lots of people will see this and start to think about what bitcoins is and how to get them, it will quickly spread the fact that bitcoins are acceptable.

I break this out from the guerilla marketing thread since I think more people will read it here. This is something everyone can do today.

It will really get peoples attention if someone sells their car for bitcoins or something expensive.

Bitcoin guerilla marketing thread.

we should place the " What is bitcoin " video, on youtube in searches it doesn't belong ,so we get some random people to see bitcoin

That would be spam and do harm instead...

469  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin guerilla marketing - Thats almost worth my bitcoins... on: July 09, 2011, 11:35:02 PM
Or why not sell secondhand things and write: Only selling it for bitcoins.

You can also tell your friends that if they sell something, they can ask to be paid in bitcoins in the sales info.

470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Cautionary Tale: What the poker community can give to the bitcoin community on: July 09, 2011, 10:58:23 PM
They seized all the .com domains names. So bitcoin business should learn from this and dont use .com or .us.

Better use .net? .org? Or .co which is not based in us.

471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / bitcoin guerilla marketing - Thats almost worth my bitcoins... on: July 09, 2011, 10:29:27 PM
Lets brainstorm something that could give millions of views on youtube almost free, or something that will make people
badly want bitcoins.

Some inspiration:

A blog,

What people do for bitcoins challenge.

The person who sends the funniest and craziest video, voted and selected each month wins X bitcoins.

This could give videos of people running naked, painting bitcoin graffiti? Making bitcoin tatoo, things that perhaps many people would read and watch about?

Or if someone has a company, and is wants to hire some person could have as a demand in the ad.

We will only pay in bitcoins.

This could also get picked up by media.
(I know there are coders who are willing to work for bitcoins, but an ad for a fulltime job, only paid in bitcoins could generate publicity.)

Or if we could get great deals but the deals are only if people pay for them in bitcoins.
This is something that the exchanges could do to promote bitcoins.

They could collaborate to have some deal of the week or something, selling something for a bargain.
(As a marketing expense)

Lets start the next internet trend, with expressions that stick like:

"If only it was a bitcoin instead"

"Thats not worth my bitcoins"

"Thats almost worth my bitcoins"

/When something is really good

"Whats the matter, out of bitcoins?"

or simply

"Out of bitcoins?"

/When someone is against something you say, mad or feeling bad or when one dont like something in chats etc.

I hope this thread gets worth your bitcoins.

472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am giving away bitcoins! FOR FREE!! on: July 09, 2011, 09:50:54 PM
If every bitcoin owner gets atleast one more person to buy one or more btc's. And they in turn get one or more persons into it.

Go for it!

474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some issues with Bitcoins that could affect beginners on: July 09, 2011, 08:22:34 AM
Very valid points.

The client needs to clearly say when it is ready to process transactions. It's very confusing to people when only 10k blocks are downloaded and the money won't go through.

This one is acctually very important and should be really easy to fix.
Just a message, explaining how it works and when its done.

I know a lot of people who did not buy bitcoins because they thought it was to difficult.

Over time, these issues will be fixed.
475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetical Bitcoin clone except backed by gold on: July 09, 2011, 08:14:24 AM
Some problems

That would mean that each bitcoin/goldcoin would have a fixed value and cannot rise in value as more people adopt it.
Ofcourse it could raise in value simply by adding more gold at a constant rate.

It would also mean that the value would be decided by the speculation in gold instead of reflecting how useful, adopted and good the bitcoin services are. Removing the very important incentive to create good services.

And question, how would you decide how much gold each coin should be worth?

But ofcourse, you are free to create such a coin.

You just need one of the worlds best securities.

- Bitcoin is not portable

Now it is. And more portability will come.
http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=26718.0

-People actually think that money is still back by gold
Not everyone do but you are right, a lot of people do, even "smart" ones. But everyone can get educated.

- You cant and probably will never be able to pay taxes with bitcoin.
Does not matter, if it has other nice uses. You cant pay taxes with facebook credits yet it will be used etc.

- Bitcoins can be lost too easily at the moment if you lose a wallet file.
Its worked on.

Bitcoin will be it's own downfall, it will get too big, it will get big enough that it gets noticed and then it will all come tumbling down when those in power start to pay attention.

Yes it will get big.
Have those powers managed to shut down piracy? No.
When its too big, its too big. There are more than one country on earth...

Bitcoins or another crypto currency is here to stay in one way or another.

479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin stable price. on: July 05, 2011, 03:45:01 PM
If you look at the demand right now there is much more supply than demand.

So price will continue down for some months, I think it will go stable at $6.
Then work its way back up to $100 over the coming months/year.

480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Article: Investment of the week! on: July 05, 2011, 02:42:52 PM
“The best place for your money through the next five years will be money itself, not investments. I recommend no real estate, stocks, bonds or commodities. Preferred holdings are cash notes stored in a safe place, gold, a couple of bags of U.S. silver coins and Bitcoins.”

It’s about the same advice he gave at the beginning of the year, so I wasn’t surprised… until I got to that last word: Bitcoins!
