61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH to hold now or not? on: September 29, 2018, 01:19:38 AM
I think you should wait and the price will rise. I keep many tokens that I bought. The main thing is to have patience and wait for growth

Right, patience is key. And you can also look into getting/investing in other coins that have potential in being more useable than Eth in the long run. Take Byteball, for example. It's a better option than Ethereum, it's like the Ethereum of DAG except with simpler smart contracts and a friendly end user interface.

The LuckyBytes lottery that runs on the Byteball platform is provably fair. Have you tried it yet?

Byteball version 2.6.0 released

https://github.com/byteball/byteball/releases

Notable improvements:

* Ability to hide unused and junk assets.  Now you can hide Nicebytes and other useless tokens.

* Creating polls from Send tab (thanks Tarmo for contributing)
* Changing display unit (GB, MB, etc) from Send tab (thanks Tarmo again)
* Suggested commands in chat: they are inserted but not sent automatically, user can edit before sending.  One of the bots will be updated in a few days and use this feature.
* Ability to scan QR codes that encode textcoin based paper wallets
* Fixed a bug which caused restore from seed to create a multi-address wallet while the original one was single-address
* Multiple minor improvements and bugfixes

 Cool

Smart contract platforms are not all the same.

Tapas vs tacos, that decision is easy (well at least for the Spanish). But how about DAG vs blockchain? Expect this to be covered at the upcoming Byteball meetup in Barcelona September 25. Register now, free to attend but limited spaces are limited.

Thanks to Genievot from the Byteball Community for another great tutorial - how to create a web page that sends bytes to any Byteball account.

72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is better than Bitcoin? on: September 15, 2018, 01:47:29 AM
I don't think it's a fair question to ask which is "better" because it's the whole "apples vs oranges" thing. They both have different purposes and will both be around for a long time (I think). That said, I've always found Ethereum to be very interesting... it's what really got me into crypto.

I couldn't agree more. It all boils down to how you intend to use your coins. Or if you intend to use em at all. Some just want the thrill of speculating if coins will rise or fall in value. And some actually want to USE their coins. There are a number of coins out there that are really adoptable to real life. Take Byteball as an example. They have "Blackbytes" which you can do cash-like, untraceable private payments. Its transactions are not visible on the public database that shows all payments made with (white)bytes. Blackbytes are sent peer-to-peer instead in an encrypted chat session. Really useable.

It was just brought to our attention that @Cointelegraph recently mentioned Byteball as a possible solution to blockchains scaling issues:

A good read, I must say.  Cool

I have never heard of the Byteball platform before, it was interesting to get acquainted with all the information contained in this thread. It seems that the competition for ethereum all adds up. In the future, ethereum will have a very difficult time maintaining its current position as queen of ICO.

We got a bright future ahead. Read up or ask away if you wish to know more about Byteball.

Steem Use-a-Thon update

There are currently seven participants who have entered the competition to develop use cases using the Byteball platform. See the weekly update, which also contains links to some blog posts from several of the entrants:

https://steemit.com/byteball/@byteball.org/steem-use-a-thon-by-byteball-weekly-update-1

Examples of some entries:

  • An idea that would enable easy and convenient outsourcing of tasks and subsequent rewarding of contributors by use of Byteball Smart Contracts. This would enable trust between two unknown or sometimes anonymous parties on GitHub/GitLab.

Bytes-Steem exchange service reducing much of the hassle for users when exchanging between the two assets.

Reminder - it's not too late to enter! See the original announcement for details on how to do so. The current prize fund stands at 22 Gigabytes (it has increased since the original announcement).

And thanks to anyone else that tried to vote but could not (e.g. if their account didn't meet the criteria.
