41  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: mybitcoin.com potential lawsuit on: June 22, 2011, 05:52:29 PM
I mean, if you can win a lawsuit against McDonalds for burning yourself because they didn't state their coffee was hot, you can pretty much sue for anything.

i get really tired of this case getting dragged out as an example of frivolous lawsuits.

1. mcDs served their coffee at ridiculous temperatures, far higher than any other competing restaurant.
2. the woman originally sued for only her medical costs.  the larger punitive damaged were added by the jury.
3. they had previously settled out of court on multiple similar cases.

You put the balm on? Who told you to put the balm on? I didn't tell you to put the balm on. Why'd you put the balm on?

McDs served it at 88C, which will cause 3rd degree burns within seconds (and is thus undrinkable).  a typical coffee maker holds the coffee at about 70C, resulting in a serving temperature of about 65C.

And you go sue someone over that?! A machine malfunction? Or expect the employee to have a thermometer with him?!  Shocked

not a malfunction.  they deliberately had it set that way.

Yes, because hotter coffee holds fresher for longer

If you're that mad about 2BTC; why not take it up with the moderators?
That semicolon was used improperly.
43  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble (Instant/Automatic) w/ Partial Refunds! [12hr rounds] on: June 22, 2011, 07:03:12 AM
It reached NothinG and was added to the list, followed by a 1.3BTC transaction.  My BTC are on row 27 of this spreadsheet:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag7eUBbWmtR4dERnSkUxdVRXbk5fWlRneFlwTVhaUVE&hl=en_US&authkey=CMm1j4YK#gid=0

Proof?  Just because a 2BTC bet was recorded does NOT mean it was YOUR 2 BTC bet.  There is no transaction info on that spreadsheet that was compiled by somebody else.

The simple fact is that the 2BTC that YOU sent has not been touched yet.  NothinG uses 1 online wallet for this game.  It is cleared out at the end of each round.  It would not be possible for your transaction to have just sat there this whole time.

mybitcoin lost your money, NothinG did not steal it.

Once again, and since you like BIG LETTERS

YOUR BEEF IS WITH MYBITCOIN, NOT NOTHING

I'm done feeding you, troll.
Call me a scammer, don't call me a scammer; I need sleep.
Troll?  Since when do trolls speak of factual evidence?  You're not only a scammer, you're also a hypocrite, you're ignorant to all the iformation I have compiled, and you know that the bitcoins rightfully belong to me although you let your greed override your sense(lessness) for moral business practice.  Thieves are one of the worst kinds of people and you are no better than a thug stealing someones purse, or a common house thief.

Bitcoin community members, please read over the last few pages if you're considering using this game!  NothinG has, in fact, stole my 2 BTC, but please make an informed decision for yourself if you want to give your BTC to someone so unprofessional and irrational that he doesn't acknowledge a single valid point in any of my posts.

Your deposit in to the game is still showing as being untouched by blockexplorer.  Is it possible that it was not at least partially used in a game payout yet?  I guess so... Is it likely?  Not at all.  All game deposits end up in the same mybitcoin wallet.  All payouts are from there as well.  The fact that your 2BTC somehow remains untouched should be enough proof that more likely your transaction never reached its intended destination.

Mybitcoin is most likely at fault.  Your beef is with them.
45  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble (Instant/Automatic) w/ Partial Refunds! [12hr rounds] on: June 22, 2011, 06:13:18 AM
Dank, you would not have doubled your Bitcoins even if he could find the transaction. You placed the bitcoins an hour and a half after the game started, and at that point its was practically dead. So the biggest refund you would have gotten would be a weighted percentage of the pot left. which would have been like .02 bitcoins. There was no way you could have gotten the 2 bitcoins even if no errors occurred, so get over it.
Quote
If say the 10th person were the last person of the day, and they put in 512BTC then they would loose 2% (from fees) and get 509.44 back.
How is that bad?
- NothinG

Now how did you calculate my refund?

Also (bold) you cannot assume I wouldn't double my Bitcoins because the service was unavailable.  I was only 2-3 places away from being doubled before it went offline.

Think of it this way..

Lets say the first bet in the game is 5BTC, the next 10 bets are all 1BTC.  Those 10 collected BTC are used to pay out the double of bet #1.

At this point the pot is empty.  Let's assume nobody else plays.  There is no money to be refunded.  It has ALL been paid out to double the original bet.

You misunderstood the refund portion of the game.

Edit: http://blockexplorer.com/address/1LWhSDLPYhKThrNhMGXsVu9DEVxPkbHQpB here is your transaction.  If you notice, it hasn't gone anywhere yet.  If it got to his mybitcoin wallet it would almost certainly at least been partially used in a payout by now.  It's floating in space, and it's mybitcoin's fault... NOT NothinG's fault.

It's the web based irc that is getting banned.  Grab mIRC or some other client.

To update.  The double payout was a mistake, and I have sent back the ill-gotten BTC

I feel it's the same as if a clerk at a gas station over changes you.  It is your duty to return the difference.  If anybody else was double payed I hope your conscience gets the best of you and you return it.
48  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble (Instant/Automatic) w/ Partial Refunds! [12hr rounds] on: June 22, 2011, 04:05:54 AM
In the interest in full disclosure I appear to have been double paid double my bet.

0 confirmations so I will wait until they are confirmed before I can assume it's not just a glitch in the bitcoin software.

I list my bet of 1BTC followed by 2 credits of 1.99BTC

If it turns out to be a mistake please let me know of an address I can send it back to.
49  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Network hash total at 14 Thash/s ? (sudden huge increase) on: June 22, 2011, 02:55:22 AM
Does nobody understand statistics and probabilities here?

Would you say a roulette wheel was rigged if it came up black 10 times in a row?  Even worse, would you bet heavily on red for the next spin?

Every single block generation is a separate occurrence, estimates of total hashing speed are based on a very simple formula for average time to solve a block over X number of blocks vs current difficulty.  A lucky string or two of quickly solved blocks will make it look like hashing power went through the roof.  An unlucky string of blocks taking an hour to solve would make it look like hashing power dropped off considerably.
50  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: solo. on: June 22, 2011, 01:51:12 AM
Solo mining just increases variance.
Exactly. If you feel lucky, go for it. It could pay off, or it might not.

Aside from any fees, pooled mining just removes (most) variance from the equation.

Solo mining paid off for me with namecoin.  I found 8 blocks in 24 hours.  I should have found 2 or 3 with my rigs.  Strangely enough, all 8 blocks were found by the same card... my weakest card.. a 5830.

Gotta love the pure randomness and gambling aspect of solo mining.  That being said, I'm back to pooled BTC mining after the most recent difficulty increase with namecoins.

Ok, what about this -- how fast will I have 50 BTC block with 10 Ghash/sec?

-Jack

Somewhere between 1 second and infinity.

Average time at current difficulty is 4 days 8 hours.

Light em up, boys!

That's the IP of a TOR exit node.  It's not the person who hacked you.

57  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Stance on spam / removing users referral codes on: June 21, 2011, 10:53:42 PM
Unfortunately I don't think it would be possible to differentiate between the actual spammer and somebody who was targeted.

This presents a very sticky situation.  Users will demand that you punish the spammers, but the first false positive will create a backlash from the community.

My only solution is to remove referrals.  Only institute a random referral service, but of course this isn't fair to the ones who are legitimately referring users to your exchange.

I wish I had a solution, and I'm sorry if I put a nefarious plot in to somebody's head.

Best of luck to you.
58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TradeHill - Stance on spam / removing users referral codes on: June 21, 2011, 09:05:13 PM
Are there any safeguards in place to prevent somebody from using MY referral code to send out spam and make it look like I am a bad user?  Remember that not all people abuse the system for monetary gain, some just do it for the lulz.

Right now the email list is in the wild.  I could pick a referral address of somebody I disliked, and get their referral code revoked.

I'm not saying I would do this or that it has happened, just putting out the possibility that it could happen.

I know you state plenty of power... But, what power supply (Brand, series, and wattage)

Just because the diablotek says 1200W and 98A I wouldn't trust it with more than 400W and 32A.
