241  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can you stuff a new video card in an ancient machine? on: June 05, 2011, 01:29:13 AM
Does it have an open PCI-E slot?

The biggest question will be, will your PSU have enough wattage and amperage for it.  I can almost guarantee it will not.
242  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Deepbit Approaching 50% Once Again on: June 05, 2011, 01:19:06 AM
I was at BTC Guild for a couple days but, I had a lot of stale shares and idle miners and they had some downtime, so I moved back to deepbit.

I'll give BTC Guild another shot in the future....

I switched to BTCGuild just about 24 hours ago.  I'm currently running 8723 (67) Shares (Stales).  I think they got the problems ironed out.

247  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble: double your money within 7 days! Double 1 btc! on: June 04, 2011, 11:59:44 PM
For some reason this sounds the beginning of a ponzi or pyramid scheme. Once someone pulls out or stops paying then they are screwed no?

Somebody always gets screwed.  It's basically double or nothing on the play.  At my last transaction of 2BTC I highly doubt somebody will play 4BTC... Oh well.  Here's to hoping.. Worst case I'm out 2BTC Tongue
248  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Double Trouble: double your money within 7 days! Double 1 btc! on: June 04, 2011, 11:52:16 PM
It's at 2 now Smiley
249  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Play BlackJack with Bitcoins! on: June 04, 2011, 08:26:25 PM
I'm not a bank giving loans and taking interest... Cheesy

So you can cashout and still receive the bonus!

But of course you can also enjoy playing Smiley

Eh, I have a strict system when I play.  I am a degenerate gambler by nature, and if I don't withdrawl my initial deposit after going up 30% I end up blowing it all. lol
250  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Play BlackJack with Bitcoins! on: June 04, 2011, 08:03:43 PM
Yes!

If I cash out after playing over 10% of the deposit do I still get the bonus?  Or do the funds need to stay deposited?

Swiss... War??  I think you'd would have a better chance of dying in a car crash in your living room than OP being a casualty of war.
252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Running Bitcoin.exe on two different computers (How do I sync my Balance?) on: June 04, 2011, 05:43:43 PM
Hi all.

I have the same concern , i would like to have more than one machine calculating hash's to the same account.

Is that possible?

I have other concern, if i like to move my bitcoin account to other pc , how do i do that? this situation applys to if i have some problem in the pc like, the hard disk burn , or a hard virus and i have to format , how do i move the account to other pc.

Thanks for reading

Regards.
Sheldon

Im runing win7

Your wallet.dat file is all that is needed to be moved.  It contains 100 hashes and your backup will be valid as long as you don't generate more than that after the backup.

A simple backup solution.  Encrypt the wallet.dat and put it in dropbox or email it to yourself on gmail.
253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'll backup your wallet.dat in one of the most secure locations for 1BTC on: June 04, 2011, 05:37:01 PM
Here's my thinking on this.  If my wallet.dat contained enough value to consider having it stored in a swiss vault, then I'd pay for the service full price as that is a pittance to what I am worth.  If I am looking for a lower cost by renting space from another user of their service, then my wallet.dat doesn't need to be stored this way.

It seems like a nice service, and I'm sure you are as reputable as you state.  Heck, if properly encrypted with a long enough password, all the computing power in the world wouldn't open it in my lifetime, so even if I didn't trust you the worst I would be out is 1BTC.  But sadly, at my massive 3.28BTC balance in my wallet, I don't think I will be using your service.
254  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How committed are you to BitCoin? on: June 04, 2011, 04:36:58 PM
Who do you work for?

I'm confused this is the 2nd time you've asked me this ? Huh

Trust. Get it? Irony? No. Sad.

We have web of trust.

Unfortunately, he asked me on another thread not related to the topic at hand or I would consider it irony! lol

It's more like creepy ... Shocked

If you would like to talk about creepy, your other thread was called "Introduce Yourself":
http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=11452.0

It generated a boat load of trusting n00b comments.

I asked who you work for.  A reasonable question as the thread title started making me hum the song "Mrs. Robinson" from the movie _The_Graduate_.

Look up the lyrics. :-)

Your second thread, this one, asks how committed I, and others, might be to bitcoin.  Is this a political movement?

I don't want to drive you away from the forum with a nasty "none of your business" response so I put the question out again: who do you work for?

It's not like you have 4000 messages to your name.  Neither do I but am not asking why are people are doing what they're doing here.

Bitcoin doesn't require trust.  Only intersecting interests at the point trade might begin.

I will not call a trend on two thread titles but they both look like psyops queries.

Or "creepy", if you will.

You have to remember that nearly every single forum online has an "Introduce yourself" thread.  It's a good way to get a post under your belt, let people know an interesting fact, and have a verifiable record in case you start to crosspost lies.

I am a 30 year old male from Ohio.  I like cats.  I came here after i heard about bitcoins for just the third time in a week.  I don't think that's creepy at all.  It's nice to put a tidbit of info to associate with a username.

Although I usually just post Sympathy for the Devil lyrics in introduce yourself threads.

Please allow me to introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
Ive been around for a long, long year
Stole many a mans soul and faith
And I was round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

I think asking somebody who they work for in is quite a bit more personal and creepy than asking for a sex, age, and location.

Edit: By your username and signature it's obvious who you work for.  I just find it funny that you are selling a product for $49.99 or 49.99BTC.  That's 17x the price at current market rate.  I think the dice are a cool idea, and would LOVE to see some metal D&D style dice, but at that exchange I'd rather build my own foundry, smelt the iron, and cast them myself.

Edit2: Also, if everybody responded to this thread like I did, showing that it was purely a speculative bubble then it would be a fairly strong indication to not get involved if you want to use it as a real currency.  There have been many attempts at BTC like digital currency in the past.  They have all failed.  It's nice to know what peoples expectations are before blowing a wad to purchase some.
255  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Selling 200 BTC, buying USD via Paypal, wire, or cash (in NYC) on: June 04, 2011, 04:29:16 PM
The Transaction went great, and NO I will not reverse the payment whoever said that. What kind of jerk does that???!!!!! My Friend Guilio was very professional, and I will do more business with him today. He is a godsend. So for those speculators please stop it.

I was just pointing out what could, and has happened in the past.  Paypal makes it too easy for scammers to operate, and cannot be fully trusted as a funding source because of their pro-buyer policies.

Like I stated earlier, I had somebody defraud me by switching the guts of a laptop.  The damage they caused to the case while opening was obvious, yet Paypal (and its parent company eBay) sided with the buyer.

I was simply offering advise and a warning.

I encourage both of you to report your successful trade in the list of honest traders.  http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=484.0
256  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: Selling 200 BTC, buying USD via Paypal, wire, or cash (in NYC) on: June 04, 2011, 03:48:21 PM
Well.. 619 is a California area code so face to face is out of the question.

I would never sell BTC for paypal as it is too easily reversible.  I just lost $550 from a laptop sold on eBay after the user claimed it was damaged and shipped back a laptop after he switched out the motherboard.  Of course eBay and paypal sided with the buyer.. They always do.

Clearcoin with donate to charity if not claimed will offer some protection to the buyer.  The real problem is if a week or 3 later the buyer decides to make a claim.

This isn't a problem inherent with bitcoins though.  Any purchase can be disputed, anybody can be a con, and it's best to do business face to face when possible.  Unfortunately I have no real solution, just some warnings.

Over 1million BTC changed hands in the past 30 days.  So obviously not everybody is a scammer.

IANAL, but perhaps a contract signed with GPG would be a good first step.
257  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware of scammers! on: June 04, 2011, 08:08:30 AM
I'm pretty sure I've been scammed out of 30 BTC on BitcoinMarket by b4rrydoyle. I made three trades of 10 BTC for PPUSD, and b4rrydoyle immediately ordered a fourth. I asked him to provide some identifying information before I continued, and shortly thereafter all four payments were held by PayPal pending investigation of an unauthorized account activity claim. Knowing PayPal, I don't hold out much hope of ever seeing the money.

I've contacted Dustin in hopes that he can help me identify the perp. Listed email address is choupex@yahoo.fr. I will offer a 5 BTC reward to anyone who can verifiably get me this person's real name, home address, and telephone number.

I have had the same experience as Ian and my paypal account was limited (can't withdraw ANY money) because of it. They want me to fax proof of shipment.

It was the same user b4rrydoyle, user 5184 on BitcoinMarket.

If this is somehow a misunderstanding I will update this post and thread.

Anybody speak french and have an eBay account?  Try contacting the buyers from his recent auctions.  Explain that he scammed you and ask if they have a return shipping address.

Or if you want to get sneaky, explain that you are him, but you lost your access to Choupex2010 on eBay and to verify something for eBay you'll need a copy of the shipping label "you" used to ship it to them.

Here's who he has done business with on eBay... Best of luck hunting him down.

258  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How committed are you to BitCoin? on: June 04, 2011, 07:03:22 AM
I'm in about 10% of my total investments (admittedly small, but I'm poor).

I'd drop it in a heartbeat if I see a possible loss or other problem or if returns slow too much.

I don't believe in it as a currency.  There are so many glaring issues that need to be addressed that people just seem to ignore when brought up.  Also, the market is so volatile right now, I would never spend a single coin for fear it would rally again.

I treat it like I do my gold reserves.  Stockpile and dump if I see problems coming.

Why aren't people buying coins until their marginal coin is worth the exchange price to them?

So you have 20 coins, and would not dare risk only having 19, but don't care enough to get 21?

I consider BTC to be a very high risk investment.  My portfolio consists of Bonds, Stocks, Gold, Silver, and now BTC.  Perhaps I'm foolish for investing so little, perhaps I'm foolish for buying so much.

The worst part... I heard about BTC from a coworker in October.. I laughed... They started mining.  Silly me.
259  Bitcoin / Mining / Help with BTCGuild Rainmeter script on: June 04, 2011, 06:27:14 AM
I switched out of Slush's pool for a number of reasons.  The API wasn't at a level I wanted it to be, I don't like the forced fee, etc etc...

So I made a Rainmeter addon for monitoring my mining.

Here's a picture.

The bar meters are my current Hash Rates as reported by BTCGuild so I can see if there is a problem with 1 of my cards at a glance.

There's only one problem.  I have it hard coded for 3 workers, as that is what I have at this exact moment.  If I want to add more, I need to physically add them.  If I take one away, the regexp just craps itself and returns invalid results.

Any rainmeter/regexp experts out there want to help?

Here's the source http://pastebin.com/ZtbXWvd6

Here's the regular expression:

Code:
RegExp="(?siU)confirmed_rewards":(.*),".*unconfirmed_rewards":(.*),".*estimated_rewards":(.*),".*payouts":(.*)},".*tito13kfm_(.*)",".*hash_rate":(.*),".*round_stales":(.*),".*"total_stales":(.*),".*tito13kfm_(.*)",".*hash_rate":(.*),".*round_stales":(.*),".*"total_stales":(.*),".*tito13kfm_(.*)",".*hash_rate":(.*),".*round_stales":(.*),".*"total_stales":(.*),"

I just found the closest text surrounding the data I wanted and used
Code:
(.*)
to store what is between them.  My problem comes with if I add another worker, then I need to add on to it, and then it changes the stringindex locations.  My calculations are missing a worker.  I need to set up a new graph, etc, etc etc.

As you can tell by my beautiful code, I am an extremely talented coder (LOL)... Anybody have any advice, or inspiration in how I could get this to work with scalability?

Or if anybody wants to take this admittedly horrible code, clean it up, then ask for donations from people, be my guest.  Just let me be the first to buy Smiley
260  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: WTS - Affiliate Movie Website earning $60/day average! on: June 03, 2011, 10:35:04 PM
Yikes, that's a steep price!  29 year ROI assuming revenue remains the same...

Has there been steady growth, and is it continuing?  What percentage of growth are you seeing per month?

I'm not quite following how you got to your 29 year number.  $60 a day, 365 days a year.  $21,900 a year in profit (we have to assume the person is telling the truth).

$21,900 will buy you 1586BTC at current exchange.  That's 1 year ROI
