1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / bitcoin-qt Not Working on: February 16, 2014, 11:09:10 PM
Hi,

I am running Linux Mint Mate 15. When I run bitcoin-qt at the command line I get the following error message:

"sni-qt/20148" WARN  13:43:00.185 void StatusNotifierItemFactory::connectToSnw() Invalid interface to SNW_SERVICE
bitcoin-qt: table/table_builder.cc:97: void leveldb::TableBuilder::Add(const leveldb::Slice&, const leveldb::Slice&): Assertion `r->options.comparator->Compare(key, Slice(r->last_key)) > 0' failed.
Aborted

It had been running fine for at least a few weeks, maybe even a few months, and then just stopped working.

Thanks,

Mark

Unthinkingbit is the one who handled the bounties. I was discussing this with someone else via PM, though, and I think it may be best to allow him to clarify. We actually have a bounty list... somewhere... that has all of the current bounties. Past that, I am not really sure what classifies as being something that can be accepted.

And welcome to the community; I want to apologize if you felt my post was being rude. Feel free to ask anything you need to know and we'll try to help out the best we can, Smiley.

Don't worry about it, your post did not seem rude in the least to me. I don't even know the terminology here yet. What it looks like to me is that there are two separate parts of the devcoin project here. There may be some confusion here about it, at least on my part. The bounty list is one thing, and then there is a more general part where developers of  "open source" ( I personally prefer the term Free Software) projects can get a share of 80% of devcoins. My original post was intended to address the second part. I did see a bounty project with which I may be able to help, and I'm planning to look into it.

Thanks for the welcome,

Mark

How is your project supporting Devcoin at this point? You left out everything related to this project. Bounties aren't just based on every open source contributor there is, as that would mean millions of people should be on that share list. It's based on things that contribute to Devcoin and help add to its value and reach.

Well, I just discovered devcoin, so I haven't done anything directly related to it yet. The first thing I would be happy to do for Devcoin is to modify this page:

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin

Where it says the following:

Devcoin is an ethically inspired project based on the BitCoin crypto-currency and created to help fund open source projects created by writers and software developers.

and this one:

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=earn_devcoins_by_developing

Where it say this:

If a developer actively develops open source of any kind, they can apply to get a share of devcoin generation by messaging Metazilla through the bitcoin forum, or by posting in the devcoin thread

I think that if your policy is as stated above it would be a good idea to put it on both of these pages.

I really think that the policy is better for the Devcoin community as it is stated on the web pages, because it is good to promote freedom and free software development in general, and also because Devcoin will be much  more likely to be successful if you could bring in millions of people.

As the newest of newbies here, I obviously don't understand very well what is going on here, but I do find it very interesting, and hope I can be of service.

Hello,

Do you think it would be possible for us to receive some devcoins for our work on the free software program Zen Cart? We are the fourth plugin contributor which can be seen here:

http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?s=39a1872c387e71ea1ff771cec76b6d7d

(See Top Contributors at the bottom of the right hand sidebox.)

We have made 41 plugins, and given away tens of thousands of free templates to people trying to start their own internet businesses. Our templates are widely considered to be the best in the Zen Cart community. We are currently working on cutting edge development of responsive templates for Zen Cart with rbarbour. So far we have released six responsive templates so far.

http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=2

We give help on the support threads for the templates daily, and have 3,903 posts.

We also have over two hundred free written and video tutorials which you can see here:

Thanks for your time consideration.

Sincerely,

Mark

P. S. I'm kind of excited about devcoins and am looking forward to joining the community.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Senate Hearings on: December 05, 2013, 01:40:56 AM
Hello,

I watched the US Senate hearings on bitcoins a few weeks ago. My fear that the US and other governments would make it impossible to convert bitcoins to USD or other currencies were significantly reduced. It seems to me that they are just going to make sure that everyone in the US who wants to convert bitcoins to USD has to prove their identity, the same as for a bank account, and make sure they get their cut of the profits. Has anyone heard any news relevant to this? I would also like to hear your thoughts about the chances that the US government will try to shut down the conversion of bitcoins to USD for people in the US.

Thanks,

Mark
