161  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cryptsy (Warning!) on: December 14, 2013, 07:20:24 PM
How many confirmations does it normally take? I have 50 and I am still waiting for my coins to show up in my wallet. Nothing is pending. Its as if I have been robbed. Why the hell would cryptsy give this illusion? Or is it an illusion?

163  Economy / Economics / Re: Millions invested in Coinbase. Now what? on: December 13, 2013, 08:38:00 PM
I'm  scared to death to get BTCs and their price going down before exchanging them.

I'm scared to death of not getting BTCs before their price goes up.

You've got a point. While ago I bought BTC @ $10. When it got to $110 i sold it all Sad

ouch, hopefully it was only a few btc?

  Smiley

That was a good move. You made 10x on your investment. Any logical person would sell at 10x given a risky investment like bitcoin. Most who held already had money with nothing to lose, were involved in the mining of it, believed in it deeply, or just forgot about their coins. I believe in it now but at the time when it was really knew I was definitely more skeptical. There was not as much information at the time as there is now.

I had 2000 a few years back and no way would have held til today. I doubled my money and got out. Hindsight is easy. There is no way Im kicking myself. Most people benefited nothing. I suggest you be proud of investing in bitcoin at all and profiting!
164  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will $1000/BTC seem like a bargain price in 2014? on: December 13, 2013, 06:45:36 PM
I think the maximum possible bitcoin price is around 5000-10000. But it's not guaranteed we reach it.

This is hard to say. From what I know, if bitcoin circulation equaled the dollar it would be worth 98,000. This is highly unlikely but if you factor in other currencies and realize this is world currency the numbers can get rather high. I would be surprised through if we cross 10,000 in the next year. Maybe 2-5 years. Just my guess.

Anyone have the calculations for astronomical numbers people throw around on here. Such as the unbelievable claim of bitcoins potential of being worth 1,000,000.
165  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ripple competition on: December 13, 2013, 01:53:57 AM
what does Ripple believe ripples will be worth in a year?
166  Economy / Economics / Re: What happens if traditional bankers kidnaps Bitcoin ? on: December 12, 2013, 10:38:46 PM
You can't buy something that is not for sale.
If they will try to buy all the bitcoins they will end up paying trilions and at that point bitcoin will be useless , cause nobody can use it anymore since there is only one person holding them all.

Rinse and repeat with next coin.

Interesting point. so there is no point in owning too many bitcoins. Doing so will just be shooting yourself in the foot. The wealth needs to be distributed equally. Unfortunately we have a ton of greedy early adopters who are still holding their coins because they want more than the half mil or mil they already made. This will destroy bitcoin.

So it was seemingly designed to prevent this, with the limit on it, and it will eventually collapse when too many people are holding too many coins as the coins will get little use in a such a scenario.

Maybe what Im getting here is bitcoin 101? I've I knew more maybe I would have held on to the four thousand bitcoins I had a two years ago. !@#$
167  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcommon - BTC/USD - Technical Analysis. on: December 12, 2013, 10:25:33 PM
There is something really wrong going on here. And now.

Could you be any more vague?
168  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ripple competition on: December 12, 2013, 10:20:02 PM
Again a lot of people here seem to confuse "Ripple" (the distributed exchange) with "Ripples" (XRP, the native asset on Ripple).

When you "invest" in the latter, be aware that there are many times more than there are currently available to the public still waiting to be distributed, often for free or only minimal amount of work. This is very different to a lot of alternative currencies that are being distributed via PoW or PoS.

I still do not get why they have Ripples other than to just try to get some extra money. The whole thing seems like a big marketing scam. Eventually there may just be Ripple the exchange? They will succeed because of this whole Ripple garbage? That said I do own some because I blindly went in and bought the hype.

Maybe Im just not understanding it? Bitcoins make sense because of the mining. Maybe ripples are what dollars are to gold? Why not just stay with the dollar then?

Is there is a Ripple White Paper?
169  Economy / Speculation / Re: Serious bitcoin price discussion. Bears only please. How far will it drop? on: December 12, 2013, 06:34:48 PM

Seriously. If you want in the market, you will surely get a chance for cheap(er) coins in the next few months. Don't be greedy and wait for an unrealistic bottom or you will miss out when it starts going back up again.

What would an unrealistic bottom be? $600?
170  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bear Trend Forming on 4 Hour Chart? on: December 11, 2013, 08:27:07 PM
i put in a strong wall at $700.  lets see if it gets filled.

I'm putting it at 800.
171  Economy / Speculation / arbitrage trading on: December 11, 2013, 06:54:41 PM
I imagine this would have some effect on the price? especially if big players are passing large sums through the exchange. it could cause all sorts of false ups and downs. ...I'm not that versed on arbitrage so maybe someone else can chime in.

172  Economy / Speculation / jpm chase getting involved? on: December 11, 2013, 03:50:02 AM
whats all this news out about jpm chase patenting a bitcoin killer? seems to me more like a ripple killer. think it will drop the price at all?
173  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are any serious bears rethinking their posotion? on: December 11, 2013, 12:55:59 AM
Bitcoin is volatile enough that bulls and bears can make money. Bears just had one hell of a weekend. Did any of them buy in after the exchange rate dropped about 50%? I hope so...

I see it as the opposite. Bulls would buy in when its low. Bears would think it was crashing to the floor and wait. I'm a believer that bulls win more than bears with bitcoin.
174  Economy / Speculation / Re: buy back in - when? on: December 10, 2013, 07:12:48 AM
Never chase the price while it's rising fast. Wait for the next dip and buy on the bounce on some trendline. Then you will have evidence that that higher prices are attainable and then the price you're buying at is supported, and after the quick bounce you will have immediate realized gains.

If you realize that the trend you bought on is becoming weak and breaking you can always sell. 90% of the time with this strategy you'll have a chance to sell at a profit even if the trend is failing.

On the other hand, if you panic buy during a rise you may find 10 seconds later you are already at a loss and cant get out.

Good advice. So simple yet so hard. I'm finding that a lagging exchange can also be useful for profit.
175  Economy / Speculation / Re: buy back in - when? on: December 10, 2013, 04:54:21 AM
If your planning on trading your value by the hour, buy at anytime and only sell higher.  If you buying to sit on it, it won't matter when you buy because the gains you experience will negate any savings you may have had trying to save a quick buck.  When it breaks 1,000.. its going up up and away.. so perhaps wait for that.  Or just do some more research in the meantime.

Your right, it really doesnt matter when I get in. I did a lot of research today and am now in for the long haul.

It seems every trader has to go through this to learn. You can talk about it all day but nothing like actually playing the game while the price is diving and the LA Times is messing with your head with stupid articles.

No selling, only buying from now on.

176  Economy / Speculation / buy back in - when? on: December 10, 2013, 03:47:12 AM
I bought out at 750 in a well thought out panic. This is slightly above where I originally got in. Figured it was insurance. Now I want to get back in. I'm torn on waiting till it drops below 750 or just cut my losses as insurance and get the hell back on the boat. Thots?
177  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy/Sell Options on: December 09, 2013, 08:01:16 PM
I think the OP is asking what is that more advanced exchange.
178  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Do you think Coinbase wallet is safe? on: December 09, 2013, 07:53:04 PM
They have highly-paid engineers with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science & Economics from some of the most respected universities in the world.

They use cold storage.

They have $6M+ in investments.

I have met way too may individuals with Masters in computer science from respected universities who are bad at what they do...
179  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase selling delay on: December 09, 2013, 07:41:39 PM
I sold some coins on coinbase on Fri and it said '2 business days to be funded to your account. your account will be funded on Thurs 12/12'. Thurs is 4 business days. I understand if this was live human error but its a machine calculating the time. I am weary of the coding. This is a simple code that a beginner could write.
180  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My Coinbase was just compromised on: December 09, 2013, 07:32:57 PM
What am I missing here? 2FA constantly changes. Taking a snapshot of it is pointless and will not compromise the account.
