My name is Ed, I am fairly new to bitcoin and am looking forward to learning and giving back what I learn. When first coming to this forum I did not see a tread to introduce myself, if I missed this i am sorry for starting a new one. I would be happy to hear from anyone and will be happy to share.

Thank you
Ed

Well, nice to meet you Ed. I have a few pointers about BTC. You can use various methods to get them, including mining for them (not recommended unless you have an ASIC.). You can also buy them, I recommend the site coinbase to buy them from, I've had good experiences from them. You can also go to bitcoin faucets to get small amounts that add up over time. You could also go to some sites that offer small amounts of bitcoins for watching videos or visiting websites. The most beneficial way I think to get bitcoin is to start small with the alt-coins like Dogecoin or Litecoin. You can get a litecoin a month with an Nvidia card that is at least a 570 or higher. AMD cards are better for mining, but NVIDIA is good with CUDAminer. I already mined 2.5k Dogecoin, and I am saving up to get Bitcoins. You should mine the smaller currencies if you want to at least have a chance of getting some bitcoin.

Haha at the Hawaii comment. I will see you in Fiji.

Some people actually pay for these coins for the novelty factor, like they will pay for a certain amount of Dogecoins and just keep them as a souvenir or as a thing they can laugh about from time to time.
28  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Everyone doing cryptocoins should be using Linux as OS on: December 15, 2013, 11:05:15 PM
A live cd of xbuntu is 600 MB, that is the full os being able to run, yes packages are in a compressed environment, but you can't stick a full install of XP on a cd and expect it to run.

In fact I have XP instalation CD and it works fine even without running updates.

That is an installation cd, can you put that disk in your computer and play on xp before you install it?

My statement stands, please read it again if you didn't understand it fully, but I will help out. You cannot have a live cd of xp under 2GB, I am not talking about XP PE either, that isn't the full os.

I tried ubuntu before, and it was too complicated to get anything other than steam and the other normal apps to run on it for me. I like windows because its a middle of the road OS, half user friendly, half technical if you want to edit things.
29  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: scryptpools.com and cryptopool.it are in and out on: December 15, 2013, 10:54:29 PM
I am not experiencing these, since I am using a different more stable pool. Try doge.netcodepool.net if you want a stable pool. In my opinion its good since I have got like 2.5k over 2-3 hours.

Why would you put something like IFC over maybe Stablecoin, Devcoin, or Digitalcoin. There are many more up and comers that I feel show much more potential than Infinitecoin, it's only a matter of time before at least 1 of those 3 make it close to the top.

I agree with this guy.

Yeah, I guess Dogecoin will have to wait some time in order to be considered an alternative.

Would running on linux actually help with your hashrate? Like for Nvidia would it increase it a tiny bit?

I would guess so, since linux is a lighter OS and doesnt have crap running in the background.

Do you have any evidence to support this claim though?

Great list, I really do like your choices. But I would try to find room for dogecoin.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dogecoin value? on: December 15, 2013, 08:23:12 PM
So how come difficulty on dogecoin mining rised up so rapidly? Will I ever be able to sell my millions for ~800$ too?  Grin

Probably, remember, the price of coins does matter a bit on how good the difficulty is or how many were mined. But the most important factor for people is the demand for the coin. If there is no demand, the coin wouldn't be worth alot now.

The value is going up, last time I saw it, it was around 12k for 0.01 BTC, and you can get that within a day with even an NVIDIA 650ti Boost. That's great considering I use Nvidia for gaming too. This coin may make me some money to put towards that special sale on PC games coming in a few days *wink* *wink*.
