Any coins to which you don't have the private key are not yours, they are a ledger entry, so don't store coins anywhere except your wallet (cold storage is best), unless you absolutely have to.

Does Coinbase fall in this category?  I create the address using Coinbase, where is my private key??
872  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin Curse? JP Morgan Executive Becomes 5th Banker to Die in Last 2 Weeks on: February 13, 2014, 08:52:57 PM
JPM employs over 260,000 people.  The financial services industry employs an estimated 5.87 million in the United States. The suicide rate in America is 19.2 males and 5.5 females per 100,000. If you assume 1% of all employees are executive level, then you should see:

At JPM
260,000 (employees) * 0.01 (executives) * 0.000192 (suicide rate) = 1 executive male suicide at JPM roughly every 2 years
260,000 (employees) * 0.01 (executives) * 0.000055 (suicide rate) = 1 executive female suicide at JPM roughly every 7 years

in the USA
5,870,000 (employees) * 0.01 (executives) * 0.000192 (suicide rate) = 11 executive male suicides in the USA roughly every year
5,870,000 (employees) * 0.01 (executives) * 0.000055 (suicide rate) = 3 executive female suicides in the USA  roughly every year

Multiple this by the number of financial services employees across all companies in every country and it's obvious that these suicides are just background noise in the normal statistics.

i like this guy

Can anyone explain how this transaction malleability bug can be exploited to steal coins from a Bitcoin address? I thought it can only happen if you are an exchange, like Gox or Stamp, and people are making withdrawals.
874  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 13, 2014, 07:37:16 PM
serious question - is there anything in the news right now that justifies a sell off?

Missed this mornings activities - what's the reason for the drop this morning?

Where's Blitz when you need him...

For the last time, dear newcomers:

Price doesn't simply "follow" the news. News might influence it, but not necessarily the way you'd expect it to influence the price (see, for example, the Silk Road news last year, and the rally (!) that followed).

Well, anyway...

We've been in a down trend for quite a while now, and right now, things are simply picking up speed a bit.

By the way, that doesn't mean you should sell now. Every trend ends at some point.

tl;dr Learn some basic TA, the world will be less confusing.

thanks, yes i understood just wondering if there is anything we may have missed while watching this thread... just tell me when to hit the BUY button, my finger is getting itchy

For what it's worth - I just withdrew 13 BTC from BTC-e and it appeared in the Blockchain almost instantly.

Isn't everyone shorting by now?

It's kind of impossible, right? You can only sell your coins if someone is buying them. Some people are panicking, some people are using the opportunity to buy more coins.

well i'm gonna be the bull soon as i see 500's at stamp

btc-e just hit $594
878  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 13, 2014, 07:20:20 PM

I am curious if I can open an International account with them.  Looks like they have an option for corporate bank accounts for international/offshore customers.  http://international.standardbank.com/corporate/offshore-corporates/
880  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SCRYPT ASIC miner ready. BTC+LTC ASIC , combo.Two new model coming >10MHS. on: February 11, 2014, 09:13:50 PM
sorry if this has already been answered but..  If i only buy 1 unit of the Gridseed, do I still need the "wiibox" controller, power supply, and USB hub?  Or can it be driven directly from my computer?

Technically you can run all of these off of a computer....the wiibox allows you to not need a computer is all (ala running it off a Rasberry Pi).

Thanks for the reply.  So if I buy just 1 unit of the Gridseed USB miner for testing purposes, my mining software on my desktop should detect the device?

Any recommendation on which software I should be using along with the Gridseed miner?
