262  Economy / Trading Discussion / Someone should start a class action lawsuit against Paypal on: July 06, 2020, 12:50:00 PM
A lot of people are celebrating the news that Paypal wants to be an intermediate exchange for Bitcoins and I can see the big gains that Paypal as a company will make,

But I will put in my two coins and say that this is also an act of spitting in the face of hundreds, thousands, maybe even a hundred thousand people who's PayPals strict no Bitcoin policy caused emotional and economic damage to the users who's accounts we're closed and funds were charged back
263  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Did a Coinbase employee steal my coins or someone else ? on: June 28, 2020, 07:38:45 PM
When they say "there is nothing that they can do", what they mean is "it isn't worth our time to fix this error". They absolutely could recover your coins - they have the private key to the BTC address, so therefore they have the private key to the BCH address. They just don't because they are a terrible company.

It is unlikely that a malicious Coinbase employee stole your BCH. More likely is that Coinbase simply did a batch recovery of all the BCH sent to BTC addresses and all the BTC sent to BCH addresses, and decided to pocket all the coins as profit rather than go through the effort of returning them to you.

Your only possible solution here is to contact Coinbase again and demand your funds back. If it is a large sum of money, consider taking legal action against them.

I think you have weak password and someone has the access to it and it looks like to me someone has access to your wallet and used it.
Even if an attacker did manage to gain access to OP's account, the attacker wouldn't be able to access OP's BCH that had been sent to his BTC address either. As Coinbase is completely custodial, the only people that can access the private keys of the addresses, and therefore recover BTC or BCH sent to the wrong address, is Coinbase themselves.

Thank you and everyone else,

now we know what happened to the coins.I will message Coinbase and hope for positive news.

The amounts worth is relative to the owner, but in case anybody is wondering it was 10.5 Bitcoin cash, which would be very useful now
264  Economy / Exchanges / Did a Coinbase employee steal my coins or someone else ? on: June 28, 2020, 06:33:36 PM
Over a year ago I messaged Coinbase to ask what happened with my Bitcoin cash, going back and forth I was told that I had sent my Bitcoin cash accidentally to their Coinbase Bitcoin wallet and there is nothing that they can do.

Okey I though the coins are lost forever but now I looked up if the Bitcoin cash is still on that ( supposedly inaccessible address ) and I upon looking at transaction history it is visible that the coins where accessed and sent out about 4 months later

--------

Only now I googled if it's possible to recover Bitcoin cash if it's sent a Bitcoin address and the answer was that if someone has the private keys to that Bitcoin address where the Bitcoin cash was sent then it would be possible

Now I googled if Coinbase has access to their users Bitcoin address private keys and the answer was yes ?

Who took the Bitcoin cash from that address ?

Thanks guys i will accept it as my own fault.Coinbase did a good job answering and researching the issue. This is their response

Hello ,

Thank you for contacting Coinbase about your transaction. According to our records, it appears that you sent BCH to a BTC address (3L8yHKLYoFJYSjj6XVwYpDJ5upHV8giwnp). This is an address that can only receive BCTC

In this situation, these BCH funds cannot be recovered. Coinbase does not support transactions where one cryptocurrency is sent to the address of a different cryptocurrency.

But why did the bch end up in an bch address regardless? Its just sitting there and nobody will have ever access to that? Also how did they get that info? I couldn’t link a mistransaction from anywhere, no blockchain.info, no blockexplorer, no coinbase history

This is their response.I can’t respond to them but i would have to say that it can’t be a different crypto currency address because the coins arrived and are still there ?

They did give me a address history but i think it was there on coinbase when i sent the payment.

I’d really want to know what happened to the coins.I believe coinbase changed BHC address after me sending the coins there

For some reason i remember having a short stingy feeling of disbelief towards actions of injustice

Talk about intuition about the future.Albeit short, that’s what i like to see here as well.

That's a lot of having $1300 worth of BCH. If you haven't mistakenly copied coinbase BCH address then those coins should be on your coinbase wallet. Its odd that
it didn't credit out.If that's the case then you wont really have any option but to contract their support.

I am already doing this.

Coinbase anwered the first time but they have ignored further contact when i provided the details they asked for.Even if they are at fault, they can and likely will deny any faults due to being able to dispute that the receiving bitcoin cash address is not on my account

Is there a way to know to what exchange the bitcoin cash aadress belongs to? Is it possible that my coinbase accounts bitcoin cash aadress changed after sending coins there?

It shows that the bitcoin cash is in this address- pr994hajwtscfvgcprmak52czn95uyg6gu6kysfpcq
The address has one transaction and i sure as hell don’t know anything about that wallet address.

Its impossible that i could of copied it from somewhere else.

So here’s what happened

Step one : copy paste coinbase aadress to blockchain and click send
Step two : sent bitcoin cash ended up in - pr994hajwtscfvgcprmak52czn95uyg6gu6kysfpcq which is not the current coinbase bitcoin cash address

Step three: lose all bitcoin cash and there is nothing that could of prevented that from happening

What about the receiving address in the picture. That doesn’t even look like a valid address

Bcash multisig/p2sh addresses start with a p.

Ye but it became that after i pasted a valid address and sent out

No real answer? You guys are not helpful
Maybe you sent it to the wrong address. In the screenshot the writings are intertwined, it is not clear. We do not know whether the address is yours. If everything is correct, you should contact support and they will tell you right solution.

It’s unbelievable that this could happen, i was very careful and don’t recall making mistakes. If it happened to me just like that, it can happen to anybody.
Thanks guys bye
274  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Did i just lose all my bitcoin cash ? on: March 05, 2019, 11:31:30 AM
Yeah about the address mismatch, all i did was copy paste the bitcoin cash address.I clicked send, the bitcoins didn’t arrive and the receiving bitcoin address has changed to something else

So my question is what happened.
Nobody has answered that

It’s all from back in the day from when it came first out.

Whats the relationship like between Coinbase and blockchain.info
I copied the address from Bhc address from Coinbase, pasted to blockchain.info and clicked send

Now im like what the hell happened here, i was on Coinbase few days later and don’t see anything
Then i look blockchain.info history and it shows that it was sent to some long, even invalid address? (Not the case, valid address)

Can anybody tell what happened and where is the bitcoin cash

Edit : My opinion on this

You know if i made mistake somehow and sent it to the wrong address, I’d just accept it and end it.
It would be an unfortunate mistake and it wouldn’t affect my quality of live.I still have food on the table tomorrow

As i recall the sending in my memory, and i barely make one transaction a month.

i took out my iphone and opened coinbase and blockchain and do the back and fourth logging in.

There is just nowhere to copy and find another address to make a mistake with the sending.
Id accept a mistake, but i just can’t see how that could of happened.

Where did the address even come from ?

I’m just an athlete doing physical training and browsing social media

Edit : Update 24 April

I made a test transfer to coinbase and saw that address indeed changed after receiving the coins.I believe the earlier transfer changed and disappeared without crediting the account first

I talked to blockchain and believe that they are not at fault.
Coinbase has still not answered the first email and there is no other way to contact them.I believe that this is what happened

Second sent email to coinbase :

Hello i believe coinbase took my bitcoin cash.

I made a transfer of over 10 bitcoin cash to my coinbase wallet, but after sending the coins my coinbase wallet address had changed and there was no history of  transfer

The coins are currently in an untouched address which i believe to belong to coinbase and i believe that there was a coinbase wallet mistake and error in my account
