1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: November 10, 2021, 07:39:29 PM
Hi all,

I got an issue with USB rights.
Got this message "USB init, open device failed, err -3, you don't have privilege to access - GSH device 1:4"

Pi4B - 4GB - fresh install (new pi)
GS USB hub - powered by HP PS
1 compaq F

regards

Sometimes, the solution is so simple one overlooks it: sudo
2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: October 27, 2021, 12:00:19 PM
so i just bought one @ Bitshopper.

I can use this stick with an gekkosience hub Right?

Very curious if it is as brilliant as newpac and R606 Smiley

Yep. I’ll be running 6 of them on my gekko hub but not at max speed due to the amperage per port. The ports share a 6amp inductor(?) between them so a max of 3amp per port which is around 500-525mhz each stick.
OK, got just 1 @ this point, so i can pull 6 Amps out of 1 port when leaving other 1 unoccupied. (This what i make out of your remark Smiley  )

Sorry guys I didn't made myself clear I'm trying to get USB gekko Science, not the R606. They are very hard to come by those days for any reasonable price.
I'll send you PM. i know wher to buy. my standard delveriry website in Germany has some

thanx for the tip, but cgminer dont detect them its like there is no support for them in the cg 4.11.1. bfgminer do detect them can i run both cg and bfg at the same time with the same usb hub?
I don't know how it works on a mac, but in linux i would recompile Cgminer and add the option for the furries.
In the Github directory of Cgminer you can find the options to add the furries.
https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer

in the "ASIC-README" file you can find the options. I don't know anything about furries, so maybe someone else here can fill it in about what you need.

I had another experience, my R606 are running best with 26-05-2019 version, other versions are unstable. I am using setting 4 and running 762 Mhz easy > 1 Th/s.

As far as i can judge the logs and talking about own experience, i'd say return the unit to reseller and ask for other one. Ofcourse Sidehack should be able to give you a more clear view on the logs.

Did you check this:

1] Try another PSU, did you check PSU type?
2] Are you using GS breakoutboard? (in my experience it works the best)
3] Did you check USB cable, try using good quality
4] Did you use good cabeling to power the R606? (make sure youre cabling is right, i once got cabeling not made right. On some points black and yellow where switched).
5] ambient temperature, is it not to high?
6] are youre poolsettings OK, no typo or what so ever?
7] did you try another pool? (once i had problems with R606, on other pool no problems at all).
8] did you try to use them without asic+? Meaning the use of --noboost or --lowboost option
9] did you try lower speed?
10] try combinations of 7 to 9.
11] are you using the USB 2 ports on the pi4?

If i read the source of cgminer, starting @line 1978, it does indeed reset like this and perform a hotplug, so that is normal behaviour:

Code:
1: GSI 1 - forcing usb_nodev()
 [2021-01-01 12:47:58.088] GSI 1 failure, disabling!
 [2021-01-01 12:47:58.088] 1: GSI 1 - shutting down
 [2021-01-01 12:47:58.190] 0: GSI 0 - Toggling ASIC nRST to reset
 [2021-01-01 12:47:58.454] 2: GSI 2 - init_count 11
 [2021-01-01 12:47:58.454] Hotplug: GekkoScience added GSI 2

Maybe, there is an USB issue @ the pi, or when it is on more than 1 pi, it could be cabling.

Somehow one of my pi4 USB-ports is not working well with R606, the other one is working without any problem, of course USB2 ports.

Hope this helps a bit.

just out of curiosity, does anyone do regular updates on their Pi's with the sudo apt-get etc etc? Just wondering if there is any benefit or consequence to it.

Yes, once a month i update my pi. Until now no problems at all. I update to keep it all running stable and save.

40Gh/s seems low... have you tried pushing the speed up? I have 7 of these running at 500MHz and they hash around 113Gh/s each.

With some good fans on them 650 Mhz is easy reached without any damage.

I can attest to this, I have 7 NewPacs running on Pi4 for 61 days straight without issue. It would've been over 120, but I lost power due to a storm 2 months ago.

I had 12 newpac's running straight for 8 months, no problems at all. Did the install by following the instructions on page 1.

Has anyone have burnt ports on R606? I have 4 and have 2 burnt PCIE ports, They are running on server ps with breakout board.

Nope, no problems. I am using GS breakout board, GS HUB, GS R606, power supply is HP 1000 W compatible with GS breakoutboard, all running 6 month+ now.

Hi sidehack,
Thx for making such good devices.
My R606 are after some experimenting over 1Th/s @ vcore 4, this is really amazing, the software is not doing its correcting yet (plateau etc.). so i think i can go further, heat is hardly increasing.
Gonna buy me some more Smiley

hi all,
is it possible to use the GS hub for connecting several R606 devices to a single pi (6 max)?

Reason for asking is i am wondering if a single pi can manage 6 devices trough a hub, or is it to much data?

btw got only two R606 atm

We need a FAQ section on the first page of this thread for the common issues that arise. Or simply a format of questions that get answered so we have a good idea of the system rather than “it doesnt work, whats wrong?”.

Maybe something along the lines of:-

1). What OS are you using? Windows,Linux variant?

2). What version of cgminer are you running? Vh’s or standard?

3). What usb hub is being used?

4). Is the hub mains powered? If so what is the power/amperage rating?

5). How have you connected the hub? Usb2 or 3 port?

6). What is the specific problem you are having?

Just an idea. May help speed up the diagnosis of problems.

Don forget to mention the ./cgminer it has been several times now (inclusing myselve), this came along.

The latest build does (as far as i know) not work with serials anymore. This is due the fact the latest build does use autotune and does optmize everything for each miner individual. So the need of serials is not there anymore.
See also page 21 for autotune exlanation: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5053833.400.

Mm, never looked @ it this way. Interesting solution.
Assoon as instability is back i'll give it a try.
I discovered, the R606 is very stable @ 800Mhz and Voltage 7. Any other setup and it is unstable.
So i mounted a extra fan on the R606 (sorry sidehack i know u don't like that), just to be sure its is cooling extra @ this freq.

Hi all,

Got question: how can i run two instances of cgminer on ubuntu? Been searching a while now, but can't find an answer yet (probably i do wrong search).

Tried to install and make (as shown on toppage of this thread) into an another directory, but it seems not that simple Smiley

I want to run my newpacs and R606 on two different instances to be able to restart my R606 sometimes, its a bit unstable.
Sometimes it runs for week stable, sometimes it stops twice or more a day.

I want to be able to try out different pools with my R6060 without restarting the newpacs.
So i can test if its pool issue or not.

So running 12 newpac's on 2 GS hubs with active cooling @ 650 Mhz @ a HP PS -- and running the R606 on a different HP PS with GS powerboard.

Ubuntu is running on a Dell precision T5400 with Xenon proc, old pc but still way fast enough.

Just out of curiosity, are you running them on windows 10?  I couldn't get them to stop auto tuning down.

i did, but was not satisfied with stability and could not run Asic Boost at all. So tried linux setup (Lubuntu 16.04). From that moment on mining was stable (with same mining hardware) and Asic Boost was possible.

See my remarks about this subject around page 65 of this thread. I do recommend to use a linux setup.

Running two GekkeoScience hubs here with 6 newpacs each @650 MHz, no problem at all (lot of fans on them to cool). Tried several hubs, none of them where able to do this.

Thanks for the details Smiley

After overclocking the newpac to 250 (with active cooling) and adding --suggest-diff 128 we are now averaging 55Gh/s and accepting shares...

if your cooling is good enough, you can go up to 400-500-600, or even 650-700.
Running mine for almost a year on 650.
The way i checked, is slowly increasing the frw and just feel with fingers, if i can keep em on newpac its all still ok.
Better way is a electric measurement device
(oh and keep in mind if you overclock warranty can be void).

I just installed Xubuntu, followed the procedure according to bitshopper but it does not recognize my 2 keys.

edit:
I went back to a Win10 on a recent i5, 16GB machine, the 2 keys are plugged into the usb ports on the motherboard, and I don't understand why one is 100% and the other between 80-85% ?

try using install manual as you can find on 1st page of this thread.
directly on MB, is almost most of time a power problem. of course also depending on your freq settings.

Al explained @ 1st page.

I recommend you to read this thread carefully completely, because almost all questions already have been asked. Smiley
