I am still getting the "(Too low difficulty)" message after trying several other pools.

Do i need to set the difficulty to something higher than the "Diff:14.7T" that is currently showing in the cgminer terminal?

"Too low difficulty" is a message from the pool to the miner indicating that the miner submitted a hash which did not meet the minimum threshold of acceptance set by the pool for that specific worker at that specific time.

Some pools constantly adjust the minimum setting to control your slice of their bandwidth while other pools just set a certain minimum(say 4081) to connect to the pool initially then allow your worker to adjust to a lower setting(like 416) that's appropriate for the device. This helps filter out CPU and GPU miners which just can't really cut it anymore.

The miner needs to restart "work" if the setting changes at the pool. Before it resets, it will continue to submit whatever is valid because at the time the hash calculated is considered valid by the miner. Remember your device may have 1,2,16 ASIC chips but each chip has hundreds of cores, each core is trying to solve and submit a hash of the same equation until its instructed something new. Your terminal can't show you everything, its more of a rolling summary, different levels of logging can be used to see a deeper analysis of events.

Ok so heres an oddball problem. Came home today to check on my Gekko Desk toys and noticed that my R606 wasn’t flashing. Looked at my Raspi4 desktop at the cgminer terminal and the R606 had stopped. Restarted it and it would sit at around 700m (previously 775m on Voltage 5) when its set to 900m.

Ran for an hour and would drop out again. Restarted and bumped the voltage to max. Ran for about an hour and settled at 675m then dropped out again. Restarted it again, switched the USB cable to its own port on the Pi (previously plugged into GekkoHub) dropped the voltage to 6 and it got to 787m then plateaued and ran for a bit and then dropped out once again. Took the newpacs with it but they recovered as normal.

I have just restarted it once more and lowered the target freq to 800 at Voltage 6 to see what happens.

The system has been running fine since the end of February when I first got it and found its “happy place”. Nothing has changed with the Pi and there has been no dropouts in power. Room temps peak at 22c (most of the time its cooler).

Could anyone shed any light on what could possibly be happening?

gt - I'm guessing it has a lot to do with that the miner's only detecting six chips.

Did I not mention that above? Crap, I meant to. It did that a couple of times after it did the first reset but all chips came back up after a full reboot of the pi.

Well you may be driving them too hard.  I tested one of my R606's at 800 to 850 Mhz and found that, although it would run stable at that frequency, that it would consume more power and actually have a lower hash rate than 750Mzh.  At 750 target it started dropping chip 4 once in a while and reset to get it back.  So I have dropped it to 725Mhz and it doesn't do that anymore.

So I would drop the target frequency down.  I would never go above 750Mhz even if a unit ran higher freq's.  So drop the target down to a frequency where you don't loose those chips, probably 700 to 750 range.

And don't just randomly raise your voltage to the max as that can be counter productive too.  Take your voltage up one step at a time and do test runs at each step.

I get its probably running at the top end of its limits but its strange that its been running for weeks with no problems and then suddenly its dropped out.

It ran at 800m until this afternoon (approx 5 hours ago) then when I checked the pool it showed a drop in hashrate. Got home after work and it had dropped out again.

I’ve set it at 600m V5 about an hour ago so will see how it goes over 24hours.

Its just I can’t figure out how it can be fine for weeks and then not 🤔

Hi all,

Got question: how can i run two instances of cgminer on ubuntu? Been searching a while now, but can't find an answer yet (probably i do wrong search).

Tried to install and make (as shown on toppage of this thread) into an another directory, but it seems not that simple Smiley

I want to run my newpacs and R606 on two different instances to be able to restart my R606 sometimes, its a bit unstable.
Sometimes it runs for week stable, sometimes it stops twice or more a day.

I want to be able to try out different pools with my R6060 without restarting the newpacs.
So i can test if its pool issue or not.

So running 12 newpac's on 2 GS hubs with active cooling @ 650 Mhz @ a HP PS -- and running the R606 on a different HP PS with GS powerboard.

Ubuntu is running on a Dell precision T5400 with Xenon proc, old pc but still way fast enough.

You need to look through the original CGMiner thread.  CK made some arguments for this purpose.  It's been too many years for me to remember them off hand. But it was something like --GSI:0.  Where GSI is the R606 and the :0 means to use none of them.  So once you find the correct command line argument that would be what you add to the Newpac instance and then do the same thing to not use the Newpacs in the R606 session.

Also read through the first post of this thread. VH made some gekko-specific options that target individual miners by serial number.

you can also do the command lsusb and should see something as follows:

Code:
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 0403:6015 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd Bridge(I2C/SPI/UART/FIFO)
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 0403:6015 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd Bridge(I2C/SPI/UART/FIFO)
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0403:6015 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd Bridge(I2C/SPI/UART/FIFO)
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0403:6015 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd Bridge(I2C/SPI/UART/FIFO)
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1a40:0201 Terminus Technology Inc. FE 2.1 7-port Hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0403:6015 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd Bridge(I2C/SPI/UART/FIFO)
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0403:6015 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd Bridge(I2C/SPI/UART/FIFO)
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2109:3431 VIA Labs, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Then in your bash / script if you want to split them out, as in my case above, I would do:

Code:
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://usa-east.dgb256.online:8080 -u WALLET_ADDRESS.WORKER_NAME -p x --usb 1:4,1:8,1:9 --gekko-newpac-freq 450 --gekko-r606-freq 725 --widescreen

In this example out of the 4 newpacs and 2 R606's I have running, only 2 newpacs and 1 R606 is pointed at a Digibyte coin.    In the --usb portion of the script, 1:4 in my example is reference Bus 001 Device 004 which is one of my R606's.    In your case if I wanted my newpacs to point at a specific pool or sha256 coin then specify the usb addresses for the newpacs and plug that into your script.  Then play around with the R606 on different pools.  Then you won't have to worry about resetting the newpacs each time as now you are only referencing the R606's.

You may see different results when doing the lsusb though since on a desktop.  I have mine running off a Raspberry Pi 4 and they are all on one Bus lane.  On a desktop you may have all the newpacs on Bus 1 and may see the R606's on Bus 2 or Bus 4 etc.  It'll be easy to figure out and code accordingly.

[...]

Not sure of the difference between the Pi 3b and b+ models.  I have detailed instructions though on setting up the newpacs on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ on page 28 of this thread.  I have not spent much time with these devices on Windows as I ran into stability issues once I tried, went the Raspberry Pi route and never looked back.   One thing to note though, if you are only going to run 1 - 4 newpacs, then a Raspberry Pi 3b+ will be fine.  If you plan on getting more than that or any R606 then you will need to get minimum Raspberry Pi 4.  As the 3 series ran everything off one bus lane (processes, devices, internet etc) which created bottlenecks.

My suggestions since the Pi's are easy enough, reinstall Raspbian on that device, and follow the steps on page 28 for setting up the newpac  on a raspberry device and see if this resolves the issue for you.

Update to my little R606 issue.

Ran it at 600m V5 and it shit itself and stopped earlier on this afternoon. Took my dust filter off and the front of the heatsinks were rather hot. Restarted it and lowered freq to 500m V5. Got a few errors saying "chip 0" was plateauing at a lower freq than 500m.

Now where is "chip 0" located if i was looking at the end of the unit with the pcie, barrel jack, and voltage lights on the right hand side? Would it be at the end thats got a tad toasty? Room temp hit 27c today and wondering if its a temperature issue.

Mm, never looked @ it this way. Interesting solution.
Assoon as instability is back i'll give it a try.
I discovered, the R606 is very stable @ 800Mhz and Voltage 7. Any other setup and it is unstable.
So i mounted a extra fan on the R606 (sorry sidehack i know u don't like that), just to be sure its is cooling extra @ this freq.

gt - chip 0 is on the end closest to the fan. The string pulls a U-turn, so it's 0-5 from right to left along the front, then 6-11 from left to right along the back, with 0 and 11 closest to the fan.

Wilco - I long ago gave up complaining about extra fans. I'm generally confident that the one is sufficient, but then I generally encourage tweaking and also don't know everyone's operating conditions so as long as nothing gets torn up I shouldn't say anything.

Thanks sidehack, She has been fine for 24hours at 500m V5 so bumped it up to 600m V5 and seeing how it goes. Max room temp was only 21c today so it could well have been a temperature issue but now its got the additional fan it seems happy.....for now. If they is any change I will update accordingly.

So I am currently trying to set up my 5 newpacs on a raspberry pi 4 using Linux. Everything works fine at freq 100, but I am unable to increase the freq. Could some please correct me if I am wrong on my approach? I am using the command

Code:
sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 12ojXdVSLUbvNSTXkXEhrcFrtmwbHJhkfq --gekko-newpac-freq 200 -p x

I am sure it's not the hub because I am using the Gekko science hub, and have a 10A power supply at 12 V.

Should I try each Newpac individual or does something look wrong? Thank you.

Not sure if this will make a difference but I have always put freq's at the end after user and password so you command should look like this:-

Code:
sudo ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333 -u 12ojXdVSLUbvNSTXkXEhrcFrtmwbHJhkfq -p x --gekko-newpac-freq 200

Also is this in its on .sh file? or are you typing it in to a terminal everytime?

First, can you confirm you have some active cooling? above 100Mhz, newpacs get very hot and will jump into thermal runaway and shutdown/burn out very fast.

What exactly is happening when you try to overclock? Is it throwing an error or just not allowing you to set it above 100Mhz?
