I like that things get critisized and the weak points get pointed at because that's how we can improve, but has anyone noticed that everyone criticizing the LN never propose a better idea? (and centralizing nodes with huge blocks isn't a better idea).
This is a claim without proof, it has been six years without the blocks being full, and even now miners aren't doing it every time because they try to avoid the orphan blocks.

The critics are that Bitcoin Core / Blockstream team is forcing users (by changing the rules of the mempool, RBF and small blocks) to go finding other solution on second layer network -> LN. Solutions still not developed and without years of tests as for the Bitcoin network.

There is anymore free choice. (anyway, it's a free choice if you think that paying $20 fee to make a tx on the Bitcoin network is good)

99.9% of the promoter of bigger blocks thinks that LN and what ever other solutions are great and welcome, but this until the user is free to choose between them and the Bitcoin network as was originally though.

I like the idea of the lightning network. I think the developers behind it are very smart and it’s a very clever use of Bitcoin contracts. I’m sure that whatever comes from it will be useful to some parts of the Bitcoin ecosystem at a minimum. What I’m not for, however, is prematurely deprecating critical parts of bitcoin (zeroconf transactions and low transaction fees) when it’s not yet clear that the lightning network will be a viable replacement for them. Yet that’s what the core developers seems bent on doing.

We know that lightning is at least technically feasible. We don’t know if it’s economically feasible or even a desirable alternative. Will it be a decentralized peer-to-peer payment layer or will it end up as a quasi-centralized payment network similar modern banking? We don’t know the answer to this question and probably wont know until we see it in action. Which is why it comes across as irresponsible to go “all-in” on lightning at this point.

My main concern from the beginning was that, as a hub-and-spoke payment layer, there would be very few hubs and the network would be quasi-centralized and a regulatory sitting duck. It seems I wasn’t the only one with this concern as there’s been a fairly recent pivot away from the hub-and-spoke network topology to a more organic, wallet-to-wallet routing. The network is now envisioned as a more pure p2p payment layer without those large scale payment hubs.

Certainly this has to be viewed as a promising development as it begins to address my primary concern. Unfortunately, I find this view of the lightning network overly optimistic. In what follows I will give a lightning network overview and some reasons why I think it’s likely the network will end up with the hub-and-spoke topology anyway.

Great article.

Yes, he always had it, and he isn't using it.

Anyway, it will be meaningless action.

https://github.com/mailchuck/PyBitmessage/releases/tag/v0.5.6

v0.5.6

Fixes:

portable mode on Windows now detects correctly where the binary is located. On OSX it has been improved but still not fully correct
infinite maximum acceptable difficulty was replaced with a huge but realistic setting
when running from python, button names and such are correctly localised
starting a new instance now pops up the window of the old instance (does not always work on linux though)
large messages load contents on demand as you scroll, do not freeze the interface anymore
large folders load about 6 times faster
bundled Python (for Windows/OSX executables) upgraded to 2.7.11
bundled OpenSSL (for Windows/OSX executables) upgraded to 1.0.2e. This version fixed some security bugs. I don't think that any of them affect PyBitmessage but an upgrade won't harm
and some smaller fixes
New features and enhancements

addresses and message subjects can be copied to clipboard
when replying to a channel message, you can choose to reply to channel or sender
HTML is automatically detected and such message can be switched to and from HTML mode by a single click
links in HTML can be opened, but it shows a warning (links can deanonymise you or result in you downloading malicious software)
hidden option that can prevent addresses from sending ACKs (not fully smooth yet)
users can contact support (me) directly from the interface (Help -> Contact support). It will fill out basic info about the system, like PyBitmessage version, platform, etc, so that I don't have to do guesswork.
Windows executable is packed with UPX and has smaller size
Windows executable is tested and built on Windows XP and should run on all more recent Windows versions too
OSX executable is tested and built on OSX 10.7.5 Lion, and should run on all more recent OSX versions too
More work was done on non-programming side, like creating VMs, etc.
2652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Reduce Orphaning Risk and Improve Zero-Confirmation Security With Subchains on: December 21, 2015, 01:29:45 AM
Abstract

Quote
Orphaning risk for large blocks limits Bitcoin’s transactional capacity while the lack of secure instant transactions restricts its usability. Progress on either front would help
spur adoption.
This paper considers a technique for using fractional-difficulty blocks (weak blocks) to build subchains bridging adjacent pairs of full-difficulty blocks (strong blocks).
Subchains both reduce orphaning risk by propagating block contents over the entire block interval, and add security to zero-confirmation transactions due to the weak blocks built above them.
Miners are incentivized to cooperate building subchains in order to process more transactions per second (thereby claiming more fee revenue) without incurring additional orphaning risk.
The use of subchains also diverts fee revenue towards network hash power rather than dripping it out of the system to pay for orphaned blocks.
By nesting subchains, weak block confirmation times approaching the theoretical limits imposed by speed-of-light constraints would become possible with future technology improvements.
As subchains are built on top of the existing Bitcoin protocol, their implementation does not require any changes to Bitcoin’s consensus rules.

File.pizza è un servizio che si basa su Webtorrent.

Webtorrent è un protocollo. (o meglio, il protocollo bittorrent su webrtc)

Per chi vuole a gratis una carta di e-coin:
https://www.e-coin.io/promo

When I heard yesterday that btcdrak was made a moderator of /r/btc, my first thoughts were "Maybe /r/Bitcoin finally has a bit of competition" and "I wonder how long that'll last". The answer: probably not very long. As someone (iCEBREAKER?) predicted, these people will just keep forking themselves into oblivion.
Getting the attitude on easily lying isn't a good achievement.
