Don't we already do something like That?

That's all easily moved over. The point is that when the user's password is hashed in the old DB. We aren't going to just copy that over, the user will need to access a link and that link needs to be sent over securely. Email is the best option right now.
why not? if you use a different hash algo you may just have a flag which recalcutes after first login Mostly because we won't have access to it.

I'm not sure what to say. If you don't have a valid email, there's no way to securing send you the link to register your password with the new forum. If you have a better idea, I'm more than happy to listen. If a user hasn't been using their account on the forum for a long time... well chances are they haven't been using the site much either. Either way, they can always just make a new account.
What about the activity, trust, posts etc... the user has earned? Would it move from old account to new account if user provide a signed message? But wouldn't it make this worst? -MZ That's all easily moved over. The point is that when the user's password is hashed in the old DB. Since you are here taesup , can you please give a hint when the Beta release or the Final release are going to be available for us please Just estimated like May-December or whatever . ~ Madnes I can't really say but I will say that we're close.

Emoji is very similar to the smileys and you get more.

As a confirmation, we're working really hard to make sure as much of the data is carried over. The only thing we can't carry over is passwords, so when you first log on to the new forum, you'll need to set a new password.
This will probably be done over email so make sure the email you have registered with THIS forum is your email and not ... say a burner email account like mailinator or something like that.
I don't think email is a good way for users to create new passwords for their account. I am fairly sure that there are no small number of users who have used a fake/invalid email address to be associated with their account. It should be trivial for most people to simply change their email address associated with their account however there are probably a good number of people who will not be active around the time the new forum goes live which means they could permanently be locked out of their account. We have a feature planned that's closely related to this, although we'll be calling it tags. Basically the thread starter, moderator, admin, etc can "tag" a thread with a defined list of tags. We hope that by the time the forum is complete, you'll be able to sort and filter by those tags too.
Thanks for telling! Can you please tell us how many tags are currently in the list? -MZ We haven't gotten that far yet with this idea.

We're working on ways to make admin, moderators, and thread starter's usernames appear more prominently so that users know when an admin or mod contacts them or if the thread starter is making a new post in a thread.

I think I have to agree with the majority here. We're here to build a forum and not really cater to the signature campaigners.

So the plan is to use emoji at some point but that has it's own problems. Github, Slack, Reddit, and a bunch of other companies all use the same implementation of emoji so we'll probably end up following that.

Actually we're using foundations. Bootstrap is awesome but a little to recognizable and a little hard to customize. As for the editor, we built our own since most other editors don't support BBCode.
i don't know foundation.. framework... but i google a few and it seems really well done and very used!!!! can you give me sone website developed with this framework? many thanks!!! http://foundation.zurb.com/It you go to their site above, toward the bottom of the page you can see the high profile companies that use foundation. Some notable examples are mozilla, National Geographic, and the washington post. It's a little bit harder to pinpoint any specific site because foundation is so customizable that most times you won't even recognize a site is using it unless you open up the dev console and poke around. Usually with Bootstap, you'll land on a site and immediately know they are using it.

With YouTube finally switching over to HTML5 for video, it may be possible. But not all their videos are HTML5 yet.
With the security concerns, we'd have to take a hard look at whether this would be a good idea or not. So I can't say yes just yet.

So yea one of the things we're working on is an notification system. Obviously it won't work with SMF but I read all the threads in Meta regardless. So if you really want my opinion on something or just want me to chip into the thread, call me out by name and I'll probably see it within a day and respond.

Well this will remove the language barriers and will make the forum unique too!
I hardly use my PC to open this website and so using plugins is not a good idea. Nothing is absolutely necessary but it would be good if someone can make this happen!
It would become annoying for the users who do speak the language. It looks messy when something is translated. My native language isn't translated very well. A lot of words work in some sentences but, don't in others he though the meaning in English is correct, in Welsh it looks ridiculous. I should imagine a lot of the other languages are too. I've started learning Norwegian which is another one which doesn't translate all that well. It's not needed, if you want to get the gist of something someone is saying just copy it and input that into google translate, you can do that on whatever platform you have. This. ^ In my experience (I speak roughly three languages, all eastern based), all translation tools suck unless you have a human in the mix. It's not worth the effort to build a mediocre tool that hardly works.

So the beta will not be replacing the forum. It's just a public beta so people can see that we are actually working on code that demonstrably works. It's also going to be used for people to point out problems, bug hunt, etc. I'm not too sure what the lead time will be before official release and replacement of this forum since we still have a lot of features to get through.
I'm glad that you are excited.
Also, if you guys calls us out by name in a thread. Chances are we'll reply to the thread faster.

I don't see why this would be a problem. I'll bring it up when we get to this.
