I'll sell you a '94 Ford Taurus Wagon for $4000 plus delivery. It goes a whopping 85 MPH according to the spedometer! (Hey, when you get up to 67ish, the car starts to vibrate too -- built in massage!)

Conan: <Points to the hood of his '92 Taurus SHO> "I call that the ranch"
Guy: "Why"
Conan: "It's where my 220 horses live"

Only video i could find:

That basically sums up how I feel every day. lol.

If pirate hadnt locked his own thread ,it would have kept all the bitching in a nice neat and tidy place

people who dont trust him could state  their observations there and people who do trust him could defend the scheme but now its taken over every thread and a poker player  is trying to make himself famous on the back of it for some reason

locking pirates thread was only going to cause multiple new ones ,a subject like a btcst possible ponzi or not was never going to be hushed by simply  locking a thread .....

Even before the thread was locked, it wasn't kept into one little nice place. Plus, that wouldn't have stopped Micon's topic as he thinks that the majority of investments are Ponzis on the forum.

I'm concerned about that "something extra:" billy bob will sue you if he's allergic to it. Make sure you give a full ingredient list.

I wonder how KFC gets around that, by just being able to say 11 secret herbs and spices? In our case, they are herbs and spices, but if I gave it away, it would kind of ruin the secret recipe.

On a side note, do you think people would be turned away from our chips if we renamed them KancerKrisps?

I believe the difference between that and this is that KFC is a restaurant, whereas you're selling a consumable product that isn't in a restaurant.

Having just seen Danks' latest post, I'm also compelled to state that Micon is driving me to the point of defending Dank.

(Hey Dank, I read your posts every day because they are entertaining, as are some of the replies.  Doesn't mean I'd lend to you (it's a risk thing), but I haven't seen evidence of a ponzi from you over the past year.)

1)  Patrick - you seem to be a guy with a good heart, i.e. not looking to scam people - but you are just too stupid to understand what is going on here.  There is no such business that can pay 2% per week interest, save that of top level drug manufacture.

I already proved this as incorrect. Please run a business before you make ignorant comments.
129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to deposit GBP to get BTC by Sunday? on: July 28, 2012, 03:00:20 AM
Well it's been about 24 hours, my BitCoin withdrawal still hasn't been processed. Bit worried they won't come through on time to be honest.

This is what they say about withdrawals:
Quote
What is the "manual step" required to process some withdrawals, and how long does it take?

Withdrawals to bank accounts are usually processed on the morning of the next business day. While most withdrawals to PayPal, NETELLER, Moneybookers, and Bitcoin accounts are processed instantly, we manually check some of them for security reasons. They will be processed within 48 hours. In any case, you will receive an email confirmation when the withdrawal has been processed.

Has anyone had withdrawals processed by VirWoX on Saturdays? The fact that you've never had a payment take longer than 12 hours to process, CecilNiosaki, and mine has already been around 24 hours worries me a little.

Damn I hope it comes through on time, lol. I hope they don't hold the funds for a month or something because they think I want to reject the PayPal payment. Then again surely they'd state that if they worked that way.

I feel like talking to customer support and explaining my situation - But I'd feel like I was pestering as I haven't waited the 48 hours and as a new member paying through PayPal (reversable method of payment) they might think I'm trying to blag them. So I'd probably be best not to?

What does the BTC-Talk community reckon I should do? Tongue

I'd assume, if you're new to SL, and then are also a new customer of theirs, they may wait a full 48 hours to wait for the Linden Lab risk API to give you a full okay (I'm not quite sure how that API works.) Otherwise, you can always contact their manager, and not support, and that seems to receive a good response if you're in a hurry.

There is no unresolved problem, simply uninformed merchants.

Of course, but what can be done to change this? Perhaps, I'm unintentionally exaggerating the difficulty, but not everyone "just gets it". Some people need to have their hand held throughout the process (not that nmteaco does, but some do) and/or are not "brave" enough to venture into something so new on their own, but really want to be involved. What can the community do to make this process, from beginning-to-end, easier for the least technical among us? If we want this Bitcoin project to move beyond a project and into wide-spread acceptance then something must be done to make it stupid-simple.

Maybe it can never be stupid-simple, I don't know.

Am I expecting too much, too soon?

I would imagine that setting up a website or creating a well-done flier, and then distributing it throughout the community so that they have it to give to merchants would work wonders for informing people.

Show him Bit-Pay. The volatility shouldn't affect him, then Smiley
132  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to deposit GBP to get BTC by Sunday? on: July 27, 2012, 03:09:05 AM
All sorted, now I'm just waiting for them to pay in to my Bitcoin wallet which shouldn't take long at all. I paid through Paypal, and it was literally instant. When I bought Linden dollars (Second Life currency) it was instant, as was my transfer from SLL to BTC. It does however take 1-2 business days to withdraw my BTC, which hopefully should be fine Smiley.

The only problem with that exchange is the fact that you can't pay in decimal (as in, pay £5, 6, 7 GBP for your SLL, then when you buy BTC with SLL, 1, 2, 3 etc). I managed to get the extra couple pounds for the extra 400 SLL, so I've got my fourth bitcoin.

VirWoX is actually quite a great, fairly instant exchange site. The only thing I'm waiting for now is for them to pay my Bitcoin to my wallet.

Guys, thanks for all the suggestions, help, and even offers to trade with a noob.

Brilliant community here it seems. Smiley

Cheers everyone!
Peace and love

Glad to help, and my apologies for forgetting about the no decimals. I use SLL quite regularly, so that doesn't affect me usually. They're based in Germany, so the majority of their withdraws for BTC seem to be processed from around 4AMCST to 3PM CST, in my experience. The longest I had to wait for a withdraw was 12 hours, and that was an order placed at 8PM CST. Smiley Their customer service is also pretty top-notch. I have yet to wait more than a day for a response when I need one.
133  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Scams and Ponzi Schemes on: July 27, 2012, 02:27:53 AM
Micon, so what about the .5%-2.5% per week schemes?  Those are legit right?

link me to example.  likely just a slower ponzi.

remember Bernie Madoff returned 1% each month like clockwork.  every month 1%.  likely slowest and biggest ponzi ever.

definition of a ponzi scheme -

can have no underlying business unit to make money, i.e. payments to "investors" must come from new "investors"

2.5% a week isn't always a ponzi, and the majority of legit businesses pull these figures or larger. Hell, I make over 1.2% a week in the Second Life stock market. I also buy ceiling clips for $0.30 direct, and then mark them up to $13.00.

Generalities are a bitch.

You mention business units that profit money to theorize how a business could pay 2.5% weekly interest on money - but if such a profitable business unit existed, say, you could buy something for $.30 and sell for $13 - would you take on investors and share the wealth?

btw Bitcoin Savings & Trust has no such business unit - or no business unit at all - it is all based on deposits to keep the scheme going.  There is a constant flow of depositors that hopefully > constant flow of interest payments, as soon as that balance is negative the operator stops paying.  That's how these work... for over a century.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme

Yes, I would. A. It's not wise to risk all of my capital in a single venture - any smart investor knows that B. I would need to bring in additional revenue to fill orders, and if my volume keeps increasing, I would need to keep doing so and/or expand my offering of stock to clients.

It's not unlimited, and I wouldn't offer it at 7% (because I like my money), but to some people, it's worth negating taking all of the risk for that. After all, if you can earn a two dollars for every clip sold and take little to no risk, compared to 12~ profit per clip and taking all of the risk, which would you choose?
134  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: July 27, 2012, 01:01:32 AM
I'm still waiting for a response to my response on what you stated about .5% weekly interest to 2% weekly interest.
135  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to deposit GBP to get BTC by Sunday? on: July 26, 2012, 11:17:19 PM
Now I see why there's so much BTC <-> SLL  trade.

Yeah. I think that, even if it wasn't instant, being able to buy through credit card for only a 50 cent fee is a deal.
136  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to deposit GBP to get BTC by Sunday? on: July 26, 2012, 09:06:38 PM
How did you get your money into VirWoX so quick?

Credit Card through SLL client is instant, and then you deposit SLL into VirWoX instantly as well.
137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to deposit GBP to get BTC by Sunday? on: July 26, 2012, 07:57:38 PM
VirWoX does GBP to SLL and SLL to BTC. You're looking at roughly 4-5% total fees if you've never traded with them, though.

Suppose I was to sign up to Second Life just to obtain SSL, is the purchase of SSL instant? And how instant would VirWoX be to turn my SSL in to BTC's? Considering this, if not might take a gamble and PM one of the posters in this thread Tongue

I've only deposited into SLL by credit card, but it is instantly. Basically VirWoX works like any exchange in that it matches you up with another order. If I did my math correctly, it currently takes 5.35GPB on VirWoX to obtain a BTC before fees.

An advantage to buying with SLL client and then into VirWoX, though, is you can deposit by credit card for only a 50 cent fee, and then the percentage it takes to convert SLL to BTC.

Do you also have a credit card charging you 3000% APR (without grace periods) and use it to buy all those ceiling clips and never pay the balance off?

Negative.

My comment was only aimed at the .5% to 2.5% weekly statement, which I find to be more realistic. The scope of a legitimate business that can earn enough to pay that, and then also have the volume to do so large scale is beyond me.
